no, no and no.. you dont cut/bend springs... lots of people seem to like stretching there springs out (idiot superbike owners) thinking it will help with things... as far as springs go.. you want to

  • Then bigger, from a 600-900cc,though that's not to say bigger is better universally. They have vaccum-operated flat slides, which govern the throttle dependant of what the engine can draw at any time,so

well I've had a fiddle with my timing, advanced it a little from before and it now seems my flatspot has pretty much vanished, what the hell is going on ?

Its getting to that point where it just runs sweet,as it wants to. You can do all the clinical stuff until it's theoretically there, but the fine-tuning is all about how it feels - and my last adjustments are always done by the side of the road whilst out on a long run.

Cant really do that with microchip changes, but the concept of having a laptop on the passenger seat of an over-computed car to make the critical fine-tuning 'on the fly' is one that has its silver lining for sure.

Random question here

Would the inlet manifold be the same size for a SPI as it would be for a GT?

I'm having strange thoughts :?:ninja:

Edited by B-shaw

^^ Yeah, its just a 1272cc unit without the old fuel system. Same ports/valves/capacity so same breathing. Sure, the GT lump has a higher compression ratio, but there's no need to restrict the intake. That'd be against the point.

The manifold bore should be a fraction larger than the ports, but with a smooth wall at the join.

well i now have my rev limiter fitted, innovate wideband is all laid out in the car so I can get my solder on in the morning, 150 and 160 jets on order from allens and then ladies, pikey spec carb fettling shall be commencing tuesday and wednesday as I have all of 2 days of work :)

I shall get back to you guys with my findings, I suspect I will have several emergency issues such as omg dirty flat spot and wtf do I do now, but i suspect a 150 jet and a bit of said spring cuttage mentioned by mikey mk should see me right-ish !

well guys this is a little weird, wideband is telling me that ime running near enough spot on apart from around 6k - 7k i go a little lean

Now ime only running a 135 jet on cbr 600's in my afh, surely they cant be fueling right ?

Ant

Its hard to tell from here, depends what year carbs they are, didn't you get it on the rollers?

What does it say on the side of the jet, 132?

the jets are 135, deffinatly as they are straight form allens. it will hit the rollers at the rolling road day at end of january though

How do i tell what year the carbs are,? throttle linkage is on the left of the carbs not in the centre.

and also to be 100% sure the brass screw next to the float cover that has a double slotted end is the mixture screw right? clockwise to lean and vice versa as I could do with leaning the mixture of slightly

and as another note, been doing some serious road testing and it seems that full throttle in 5th gear my gauge reads around 9-10 which is quite rich seeing as though it should be sitting near 14

Ant

With the double slot pilot screws and left pull (there because it would've had a TPS fitted) it does sound like the late carbs but i meant what size were the original jets? Still got them? It says the size on the side of them. Had you drilled them you'd still have the original size recorded.

If they were 130s and 132s (cylinders 3&4 are bigger on the bike) as i suspect then you shouldn't be running rich, even with a 1.3. Contrary to not opening enough, the needles may be opening too much but if this was the case then you'd not still be rich at 6k rpm under labouring because the needle's would've maxed out before then.

You need to get it on rollers, really.

originally they were 132's all round, it deffinatly running ruch, can smell fuel under heavy accel or just afterwards and wideband is showing that it is too. slides seem to be operating well enough too although i did get some looks running without a bonnet

Got me stumbled

Ant

hi guys i wanna fit bike carbs into my AEE but i dont really know wich ones are the best to buy and what do i need to do if i get them i know i need to make new manifold and what else if some one could explain it propably to me , and are they hard to set-up?

Have you read the thread?

I know it says Mk3 but the principle is all the same.. you need the same parts:

Somethign to pump the fuel - Fuel Pump + regulator

Something to inject the fuel - Carbs Arround the 600cc mark

Something to ignite the fuel - Ignition System

the only thing you have to sort out is the wiring for the Ignition system. Don't know if you can just use the Mk4 system with all the wires for the injectors/throttle body unplugged. Or you have to work in a Mk2 injection system.

This has been posited before...

could somone explain how to attach the throttle cable to the pedal??

I've got the right cable, mesured and cutt the outer and ftted it, but am stumped at attaching the cable to the pedal

I drilled 2 holes in the pedal arm and looped the cable through and then put on a solder-less nipple :)

Lookin to buy a mk3 thirteen hundred.

i want bike carbs fittingbut not really sure of the job, tbh wouldnt know where to start, if i wanted a garage to do it, any ideas roughly on a price they're gona charge me. maybe even PSI. apart from an induction kit etc what else can i do to this car to help with performance?

Well this thread and the links has all the information you need!!!! :-D

As for a garage prob anywhere from 300-6/700.. its down to the garage..

Not sure what sure PSI is.. Best doing a search for the rest of the information about upping the performance of your mk3. Or makin a new post if you have a specific question..

psi is quite a big company based in stoke that do all vag. they had a golf in golf+ few months back.. it was gold, in a racer style.

i wouldnt mind fittin em myself. if its a easy enough job.

slots over the pedal and the throttle cable is slid thru the smaller hole and tightened with a grub screw

i used the original Polo throttle cable, modifying the ball end to fit the pulley, and adapting a Golf 1.3 bracket to fit the master carb.

ritee...

I've put my bandit 600cc carbs onto my mk2 golf 1.3 8v....it starts ok but it idles so high...would this be because the fuel to air mixture is so strong and its over fueling???

I've gut my springs for the air vacume thingy nearly in half barr a few coils..its a little better but still idles so high..

should i curt them down more..

where should the vacum things which determin the amout of air flow sit at idle??? all the way down allowing minimal air though??

oviously they should be funny open at full throttle...

little help please..

the spec of the carbs are..

keihin cvk32

32mm bore

pilot jet 35

pilot air jet 150

main jet cylinders 1+4 98

main jet cylinders 2+3 100

main air jet 90

needle jet about 3.4(thats the us spec size u.k not listed)

jet needle N1QJ

help me please...

Its probably been asked before.. but would the standard cbr600 fuel pump be adequate? This will be on an ABD/gt, with a few mods and the cbr600 carbs. Also, has anyone tried hacking up a gt or similar manifold? I've got an old one off a mk2 golf 1.3, cut it down but the ports seem wayyy to small, and i'm a bit apprehensive about porting them out too much :-)

Any advice appreciated, thanks very much.

hi guys, just compleated my carb conversion and my car wont start

it just cranks, coughs, tries to start, then it bangs ant sprays out of one of the carbs??

i reckon its ign timing, what could it be??

Edited by mr. clive

I know a lot of people don't have any experience with bike carbs (well not 4 of them anyway).. like me :-)

So i was just wondering if some kind person would mind labelling my pictures..

These are cbr600 carbs, just picked them up (and unfortunately didn't remove them from bike myself), and i have colour coded all the pipes and bits that i don't know what do..

I could start a new thread for this, but i'm sure it will keep getting asked so would be nice to clear it all up for me, and for others in a similar position :-D

Any help is much appreciated :-D

Minty/light green.. Fuel in/out?? Just a guess cause i think there was some petrol left over in there.

Dark blue.. is that the throttle positioning sensor? (have read through many posts a while ago, and this just happens to come to mind!) What do i do with it? Remove it, or just leave like that?

untitled-1.jpg

Purple.. something to do with the choke?

Yellow.. throttle wheel? Should this move freely? Mine doesn't :?

carbs.jpg

No idea what the rest is!

CIMG0640.jpg

This is broken. Will it be a problem? What does it do?

Finally, is there anything else that needs blocking/modifying, other than jets and springs (and mani, fuel pump, ignition etc.) obviously, for these to be run on a car?

Thanks very much :-D
