other people have work, and usually dont finish until 5:30 - 6pm, then they still have to go home, wash, have something to eat then get the car ready, then get to the meet, 6pm is just too early.

I meen if you want to meet some people earlier then i dont see why not, but you may get bored and leave before the rest of the people turn up.

Me personally would get there for around 7ish unless I'm meeting people before to drive up there with incase anyone turns up early and they arn't waiting around by themselves.

Strange situation my car is just down the road from the pub but my house is a couple of miles away.
