no mate the person i bought the carbs from said you dont need to use the mk2 ignition, just jeave the ecu plugged in and everything

works fine, the car idles and runs sweet.

so the GT ECU will happily control the spark with out any of the injector plugs, plugged in. I know the hall sender tells the coil when to spark via the ecu but i thought it just has a fit and refuses to work if it wasnt plugged into everything.

Hmmm. wonder if this works with the spi ecu too.

I assume your rev gauge still works.

The one gain from using the round type coil is a stronger spark apparently.

nice wee video :D

I'm pretty confused tbf

Everyone tells you to use the MK2 stuff. So if the normal ECU etc works then why?

And the fact its spitting flames shows its not running right. Its too rich.

i dont think it is spitting flames...most carbed cars do that when you rev the engine and turn the ignition on and off.

iv not got a clue how it still works with the ecu in place, just been told it does, tried it and it works.

I've got the mk2 ignition but i haven't bothered fitting it.

and its not running rich, my mate is revving it to the redline, turnin the key, and as the revs drop to about 4.5k,

then turning the key back and it backfires :D

the person i bought the carbs off spent £500 on having mech motorsport tune the cars perfectly to a gt

Ohhh, didn't realize you where turning the ignition on and off

Strange that is with the ECU business. On a mission to find out why it works now.

I always thought you had to use the mk2 stuff aswell :?

Might have to have a play myself :unibrow:

Its an expensive play Ol

Itl be worth it 8-)

olly you know you need to do it matey, it will be expensive but definately worth it!

yeh ofcourse you can run the standard ECU to control ignition. Theres no reason why you couldnt.

but to be fair, why do people actually use the mk2 stuff?

but surely u would need the vac advance

for what?

Hey man, nice car. Just curious about this exhaust. Did you get it hung like this because the standard exhaust hangers are breaking? I'm having problems with mine but now i've seen this i'm wondering whether to get an exhaust which uses this method of hanging or whether to just get them cut out and a new panel welded in? Would this just be a custom jobbie or is it a case of making another fit?

Cheers for the help! Might be questions about carbs next! ha!

i think all the ecu is actually doing is feeding power to the coil and the dizzy, it doesnt need to know the temperature of the engine, position of the throttle or the amount of air is coming into the engine. as sensors arnt plugged I'm sure inside the ecu it will be throwing a wobbly. Will the ecu know when to advance and retard the ignition timing? i doubt it, but if it works it work.

yep spot on mate.

By unplugging the fueling and air side of the ECU, youve technically taken away half of its control. Which will cause inbalance and cause a few probs. It is better to just loose it all to be honest.

yer mann, when i was getting it custom made i just asked him when it was up on the ramp if there was anything else he could do with the exhaust hanger and he came up with that :D it was held up with twin and earth before that
