Drink and Drive?

Featured Replies

It has to hit hard to hit home. I agree with Steve. Alcahol has different effects on people, zero tolerance is the only way to go.

Its sickening that people will drive after drinking and feel "fine". The fact is you are not.

I have not and will not drink and drive. Heres a few others, most from the DOE NI.

This last compilation is pretty bad:

I really can't understand why there's a limit in place... it should be zero tolerance. But then he told me that some people will read on their graphs even if they haven't been drinking so there has to be a limit in place.

This subject really annoys me. I done it once when i was a lot younger..

You've done it more often than that, for you're an unintentional hypocrite.

You are a drink driver. Everyone on here who drinks at times, and drives at other times,is a drink driver.

How can i claim this? Well,if you drink six pints of Stella between 7pm and 10pm on sunday night, you're still over the drink drive limit at 9am monday morning.

Sobering,isn't it?

You call it an acute hangover - but it can mean prison, and often means no job and without your car for 18 months. Plus.

But here's the crunch - you've still got alcohol in your system from saturday night, then 10 pints from mid afternoon sunday through to sunday night - and you'll not only be over the limit on monday morning but you'll still be over the limit on monday night. Possibly likely still on tuesday - and you can still be over the limit as late as THURSDAY despite not touching a drop since sunday.

Still want zero tolerance? Or one beer or glass of wine with your dinner in the evening? Because you cant have both.

So all of you who think you're perfect,i guess you always go a full 48 hours tea-total before ever driving,or have no more than two pints before an eight hour sleep.

Because if not, you're almost certainly a drink driver, and likely again, fairly regularly.

I'm not a drinker but I did once jump on my vespa after a bottle and I rode like a idiot and I realised the next day I probably could have died on any of the blind corners I flew out of

NEVER AGAIN

Gets the point well across.

what? if you drink, then crash, your more likely to not end up looking like a super heated moomin, than someone who doesnt drink and drive

hope the guy that mullered that girl for the rest of her life has a lot of sleepless nights, although i doubt he does.

thats an interesting point mikey, although you would have to consume a lot of booze to still be over the limit by thursday, if you last had a drink on sunday! apparently men will burn off 1 unit of alcohol per hour. stella is roughly 3 units per pint. 4 units will put you on the brink of being over the limit.

It would need a lot,but such is a weekend binge. On sunday, thousands are still carrying fridays alcohol in their blood as well as saturdays.

One hour is minimum for one unit, for some it takes one and a half hours.

The test results depend also on how much blood is in your body, and generally this is governed by how tall you are,and next how muscular (there's no blood in bodyfat).

So for someone who's only a weedy five feet tall, its near three hours to detoxify a pint of stella - and there's no action for the first hour,so that's near four hours to get clean of just one random pint of Stella.

That's more to do with why people get banned, not the stereotypical 'five pints in the evening and banned driving home from the pub' as most tend to believe.

Mikey is correct, it stays in your system for a fair amount of time.

I'll admit I have had a drink and then driven, but I wasn't wasted or anything like that, not that it makes any difference.

I do have a beer with a meal and drive after, but I'm still well under the limit (good old girlsberg) and the food soaks up most of the alcohol.

drink driving is best done on a field in some old shitter with no exhaust :D

Girlsberg

Incidentally, food doesn't soak up alcohol,it all goes in your blood the same - just it initially takes a bit longer to get there because your body is also busy digesting food so the alcohol doesn't go straight in (as it does on an empty stomach).

Incidentally, drugs (from nicotine and weed to paracetamol and prescription drugs) slow down the breaking down of alcohol,as the liver has those to contend with as well - so on them, its in your system for even longer.

Ah i didn't realise that, I guess it makes sense that regardless of what you have eaten, the beer is still in your stomach.

If we had road signs like that,i wouldn't mind paying petrol tax!

I do have to say I dont really drink at all, but whats everyones veiw on smoking weed and driving . I belive that it does not effect your driving at all but only for someone who smokes every day . if someone who rarely smokes has a j then drives then it can be just as bad as drink driving. I smoke every day and have for the last 3 years and every day i drive after smoking a joint and have done since i passed my test infact i even passed my test after haveing a spliff ! and i am a much better driver when I'm stoned ,I'm calmer I'm nice to everyone and i drive alot safer . when I'm sober i drive my aggressive and thrash the car around i also get easyly wound up and frustrated.

whats everyone else's veiw on drug driving?

"Under Section 107, Schedule 7 of the Railways and Transport Safety Act 2003:

It's an offence to drive a motor vehicle while under the influence of a controlled drug and Police officers have powers to undertake roadside drug tests on drivers.

Driving under the influence of drugs carries the same penalties as drink driving - a ban and a fine of up to £5,000 or up to six months in jail. If a person under the influence of drugs causes a fatal accident, they could face a two-year ban and a maximum of 10 years in jail."

Its illegal. Enough said.

Stupid imo - how can a relaxant make you more aware?

i know it dont really make sence but i dont think you would really understand unless you smoked every day. allso the amount of people that smoke weed every day is out of controll you will be suprised at how many high sociaty people i see picking up, truckdrivers, teachers, phycologist, doctors, vets, sciencetist, . I'm not saying its right but millons of people smoke and drive everyday.

cannabis shouldent even be illegal imo the britsh law is a load of shit how can cannabis be a class b and ketimine a class c . that is retared. also drink kills people millons of people and weed has never killed anyone its safer to take pills than it is to drink. for some reson weed make me consertrate more and focus's my mind .

I've been passenger with pilled up driver, aside from coasting doiwn a massive hill (Seeing wether bass alone can make you go faster!) he was driving much better than normal, actually concentrating possible. only on two or three, not exactly dangeroud id say. I can understand the drink driving ban though, lose too much control.

you can discuss the in's and out's, whether the law should be changed and alllll the biological bollocks.. but at the end of the day, you get to a stage where you know you should not be driving. be that after half a pint of shandy, 2/3 stellas or whatever. YOU know when you start feeling the affects of alcohol like the slight dizziness and delayed reactions.

what pisses me off is the people who drive regardless of those feelings, knowing full well they are pissed and not in a fit state to drive.

sure, you might not have got to that stage and your reactions will be slower and decision making abilities impaired compared to when you are sober, but as said on here before.. you might still be just as capable after 1 pint compared to a ditsy 17 year old who has just passed their test.

it's the people who know they are wasted and physically impaired past a certain point but are still intent on driving that cause all these crashes. i can't really describe that 'point' but you all know what i mean. and it sickens me that the people who overstep this line and cause a crash are usually the ones that come out of the accidents alive and without injury.

If you need a spliff to be calm behind the wheel, then you have a problem.

If you think you drive better on weed then you have a problem.

I don't see the point. An accident like that could happen even without drink driving.

How about if its put this way...

How many REALLY stoned people have you ever seen piss themselves in public, start a fight with some random person, throw up all over the pavement and themselves, loose the ability to form words let alone string them into coherent sentences.

Alcohol is worse than weed, a lot worse, it just happens the government can make a good amount of tax on it therefore its legal. And I would say it is possible to drive better after smoking weed, it stops the mind from wandering elsewhere, e.g. what am I having for dinner tonight (for example). But as has been said, this is only really if you smoke everyday.

The fact is more people die from an alcohol related accident/illness/whatever than with weed.

The fact is more people die from an alcohol related accident/illness/whatever than with weed.

Well more people drink,so that's hardly fair - give me a genuine percent and then i'll be interested.

I agree weed can give you some focus, but it also slows your physical reactions down monumentally

,as well as slowing your mental reactions down.

As someone said above, its a relaxant - as is alcohol.

And relaxing your organs isn't the way forward when it comes to driving, whether you do it enough to pass out,or merely enough to acutely change your bodies behaviour.

lol i do have a problem but i just love weed to much and its not that bad for you imo . over 2 millon people smoke in the uk and if we all smoked insted of drunk the world would be a better place lol, as said by matt people who smoke are nice people and people who drink are generaly c**ts. i work/live in a pub and the people who come in have put me of drinking and the amount of people who drink drive is stupid and complety inconsiderate. I do have a limit tho i would never drive a car if i was wasted or even felt i couldent control the car. like if i had just smoked a 8th of cheese or sour diesle i would not be able to drive lol.

you can discuss the in's and out's, whether the law should be changed and alllll the biological bollocks.. but at the end of the day, you get to a stage where you know you should not be driving.

Yeah i kind of agree with your post..although at that stage it doesn't really enter their head whether they should or shouldn't, I punched a male friend in the face a few years back and stole his keys so he wouldn't drive home drunk.....and he would have been driving home drunk past my house aswell where maybe one Friday/Sat night my mum might be walking our dog......so he got punched in the face by an 18 year old girl (at the time)

Going back to your post my dad could easily drink 2 pints and not be affected, me on the other hand, would be like jelly. So its all relative.

My cousin got killed at the age of 19 when a drunk driver was on the wrong side of the road coming around a corner. I mean for the sake of a £5 taxi fare my cousin is dead. Because of all the stress my aunts brown hair turned white nearly overnight.

Because I've grown up around this tragedy i haven't got a big relationship with alcohol and can't for the life of me understand why people cant just not have 1 more pint of beer or 1 more glass of wine.

^^^^ fair play mate dont blame you for punching your mate luckly none of my mates are that stupid lol but i think i would do the same. its terrible that young people have to die because someone thought it would be a good idea to drive when they are fucked out their heads. :tear:
