Cooper S?

Featured Replies

£12.5k.. Mk5 Golf GTi, or possibly a JDM EP Civic Type R (might be bit iffy being an import, but it'll be white!)..

Personally i love the Mini's, especially black ones with Works bodykits, but you can pick up an older Cooper S for half that budget, and they are common as...

A mate of mine just sold his Mk2 Renault Clio V6 for 12.5, amazing cars to be fair, and quite practical in comparison to his new car.. VX220 Turbo

Cheers for the replies guys

I've mentioned the Ibiza and Leon Cupra, but he doesn't really like the fact that his mates have got them already, so wants something a little different.

The MK5 Golf GTI looks like a mean peice of kit, so i put that forward to him, hasn't got back to me on that one though. So the Golf is 200bhp as standard?

The GT TDI makes more sense in all fairness, "only" 150-ish bhp, but the torque on them is another story altogether.

mk5 gt tdi's are 170 break standard and according to wikipedia 350nm tourque, add a remap into there....

a mate of mine used to have the supercharged new mini, and that was good. had a quick blast in it once and it fair shifted

he traded it in for a turbo one, with the peugeot engine and its a piece of crap. also it uses more oil than my old corsa B with knackered valve stem oil seals  seriously

plus he is a total batty boy.

id have a charged one tho

Thats coblers my mums had one for 3 years and its never needed anything.

How is it cobblers?! Its a fact that 3 out of 4 friends who've had them have had nothing but problems.

Well in our family there is 2 S's and neither have gone wrong at all.

That's no surprise

I've driven a Cooper and the build quality was awful, literally had pieces of interior trim falling apart.

Someone I know has a 2009 Cooper S and it's already had to go back to the dealers twice due to poor build quality issues.

It's enough to put me off.

Thats fair enough, but it doesn't make what I've experienced a non-fact...thats all I'm saying :-D

Grrr, he's pretty certain he wants one now :( can't convince him either way. He likes the look of the Polo GTI Cup, but they aint about in this country :(

At least get him to test drive his options, i drove a normal Cooper and that felt damn stiff for a modern car.....

mk1 focus rs? About 220bhp I think and pick up a very good one for less then your budget

youd struggle to get an R34 for £12.5k. they are mid to high £20k's.

R33 maybe but not an R34.

Golf R32?

I didn't know there was a new mini... I just keep seeing these BMW One and BMW Cooper S's around :p

no1 mentions the new renault clio sport 200?

rather have a 182 on ITBs for the money of a 197

Fiesta ST ftw, if I won the lottery I'd buy a Mk7 in blue with white stripes...

In alll honesty, and bear in mind if you cut me in half, you're actually more likely to find a blue oval than a blue circle running through me, I'd steer clear of the stuff ford are knocking out at the minute. Yeah, the engines are as good as they've always been, but I just can't see the current generation of fiestas lasting well or holding value.

I know they're a bit hairdresser, but have you looked at second hand audi TT prices lately?

When you win the lottery who cares about depriciation ;)? My Dad has 2 cossies mate, ofc I got a bit of blue oval in me! I do like TT's though, would have to be the 3.2 (with twin exhaust) in black if it's a mk1 or white if it's a mk2.

1.8T 225s had twin exhausts too ;)

i assume there like a vr set up so only half a v6, 1.8t all the way

The 197 Clio R27 could be a good shout. Widely regarded as one of the best hot hatches. Recaro seats and cup suspension are both a must to have the proper experience. £12.5k isn't a long way off a brand new Clio 200 Cup with a bit of discount...might be food for thought. Can't fault the equipment when you're getting Brembo's, Recaro's and one of the best FWD chassis. Gearing can be a little long depending on year I believe. Fine engine that needs revved like any good N/A hatch.

Mini Cooper S is no doubt a good all rounder. I'm not a fan of the face lifted car as it became a little bloated and lacks the character of the supercharged car.

The Fiesta ST is an OK car but lacking some punch. If you could find an ST185 with the Recaros (ala 197 Clio) and KW Suspension that might be an interesting alternative.

If you get a bmw Mini its best to get a newer 1st gen one(05-06) as they have different power steering pumps and better gear boxes ect... And for £12.5k you'll probally be able get a JCW which will have 210hp.
