Lol, the power steering pumps are louder than the superchargers!

Some of the suggestions in this thread have nearly made me fall off my chair! You could get all sorts for £12k but the guy obviously wants a practical hot hatch!

I absolutely love the Cooper S and it's a blast to drive. In grey with the black roof they can look superb.

Perfomance / Handling / Build Quality (in the cars I know of) are all top notch.

It does have a gay image and the interior isn't the nicest design imo but I would have one... it'd have to be running silly power but it'd be fun!

They feel very solid too.

Only other car I can think of which I don't think has been suggested is a DC5 Honda Integra Type R... A bit more hardcore but so much more exclusive! The mini's are like arseholes which is the one thing I don't like about them.

Teg's are harsh though, if the DC2 is anything to go by.. no sound deadening..

They ride very well, quite supple as standard and I wouldn't go as far as to call them loud. In comparison to something like a Golf perhaps...but then if you want the performance you have to make some sacrifices.

Avoid the DC5 like the plague. Joke of a car, doesn't deserve the Type R badge. Doesn't even have double wishbone suspension in the front let alone all round...which really is one of the main advantages of the older Honda's. Rear suspension layout is widely known to be rubbish with too low a rear motion ratio. Front suspension has little/no castor which is pretty stupid on a performance car. It looks good...it's got nice seats/Brembo's etc. but it's not a proper Type R.

no u can buy a gti and have the cup body kit fitted tho from factory lol

Am not saying there bad cars, i just wanted him to test drive a few before making th decision, am sure it will be nice.

He said he was thinking about a remap, he said stock was about 175bhp, hopefully wants to take it to around 200-210bhp.

Is that quite accurate for just a remap on this engine? Think there a 1.6 16v Turbo.

If he's got the turbo one it's a 1.7 i think... and yeah he should see over 200bhp.

He should of got the supercharged one though... much better imo.

EP3 is as bad...FN2 even worse. It was all downhill after the EK9/DC2 till the FD2 was released in Japan. An LSD does not make a car handle well when the basics are missing. Type R was about little/no compromises, the DC5 is full of them.

I never said the LSD made it handle well... but it does mean it can put power down through corners very well.

TBF my mates was on DC (i think) coilovers and had a fair few mods, it was very good. And TBH the standard one I test drove was also very very good.

The Type R badge means nothing now in comparison to the 'old' type r's but I still think in comparison to the modern hatches the DC5 is a killer! I can't think of many hot hatches for around £10k that i'd rather have.
