picked this up with no engine last week, tbh its seen better days, all of the structural welding has been done but unfortunately the rest of the body work has been bodged pretty hard. holes filled with filler which has cracked and been painted with a brush in the wrong green all over the place lol. the seats are pretty tatty and the last owner cut a section of the roof out and replaced it with part from another car. all in all its pretty ratty but solid.

24 hours later it had coilovers, 8v GTI lump and my cults (trail fitted)

plans so far are just to try and sort some of the body work issues then paint it a matt colour to tidy it up some and make a side exit for it. hopefully this should be a nice quick turn around theres really not much that seems to need doing to it, i just can't wait to get it on the road so i can enjoy some retro motoring

restoration is some thing i'm hoping to do in the future mate, hopefully next year i'll be in a position to do a proper job on it, but for now i just want to stop the body work from getting any worse, sort out what needs sorting and then that's a lot less to worry about when it comes to it.

satin purple would work really well with it

i swapped it for my mk2 rocco 16v, we had agreed a price of £300 for mine till the lad buying it mentioned he had this and was willing to do a swap with it so basically it owes me 300 for the car and £70 for the engine/box/ect. not bad really when you consider that even proper rotten ones can go for well over £500.

that purple looks stunning! if any one else has any examples of nice matt/satin colours then feel free to post them up, this is one area i'm still looking for inspiration in

so with satin is it just like painting a car matt but with a different agent mixed in with the lacquer?

With mine it was normal basecoat and satin lacquer. It can be done the same as matt however and you just get basecoat with matting agent and no lacquer.

They seem to use a lot of matting agent when mixing with the lacquer I noticed. Mines 50/50 and its just satin.

picked up the new wheels yesterday and did a little more on the roof, which isjust about done now, don't look like i'll get much done today thanks to the good old British weather, global warming my arse

matt/satin was just meant to be a stop gap basically to see how well the roof will hold out, i didn't want to pay out for a full respray then have the filler in the roof crack or some thing. although i have been thinking about having it resprayed properly but paint the roof black, that way if it does fuck up it would just be a case of repainting the roof black with no worries about colour matching ect.

if i do go straight for a proper respray it will be going viper green

Nato green matt would look sweet with black satin wheels and bumpers untill you do the full resto i think too :-)

no mate, that's just were the lid off the filler tub vibrated off the roof as i was DA'ing it and slipped down the window...

this on the other hand is

slight update, the roof is now matt black, no idea how it looks though as it was dark when i started painting it, hopefully i'll be able to get a better idea of how the repair on the roof has turned out now its all one colour.

also i got a welder and started learning myself how to use it, i'm far from an expert but still managed to knock up a side exit lol

still got to make some mounts for it but i'll do that tomorrow, i've got the bug now though, i found myself looking around the shed trying to find shit to weld together lol, think i might have a bit of arch eye coming on now though so i may loose that bug pretty sharpish

i've got the paint scheme in my head now as well and its going to be far from standard, watch this space...

oh and i am try my dam hardest to convince my mate to sell me his G60 conversion, wish me look lol.
