mk1 scirocco storm

started practicing my body work skills to day and i'm proud of the job i've done seens as i've never done any thing like this before. most of you will probably know this process but i'll run through it any way seens as i've got the photos uploaded already.

on the wing were the aerial used to be there was just a mass of cracked filler and brushed on green paint covering where the hole used to be so i hit the filler out and clean up around the hole

then i got the angle grinder out and cut the shit out, its at this point i started praying my newly found welding skills were as good as i was hoping they were

18102009995.jpg

then cut a matching shape to fit in it out of some bits i'd cut out of an old golf shell

18102009997.jpg

then i spot welded the new metal in place

18102009998.jpg

out came the grinder again to take the weld back and blend it all in a little

181020091001.jpg

and a splash of filler

181020091004.jpg

then DA'ed it down and gave it a couple of coats of 'rust not' and a couple of coats of matt black

181020091006.jpg

181020091007.jpg

181020091009.jpg

not bad considering i hadn't done any welding before yesterday lol. can't wait to get on with it again now but not gonna get a chance till next week end now thanks to these shity early nights :-(

i don't think theres much chance of me getting bored of this, theres so much body work to be cracking on with and now i have all the tools i need to do it properly for a change

its defiantly gonna get rapped though :-D

cheers olly, i blame the shit picture on the fact i had used all my skills trying to get the welding right and had non left to take a decent photo

:lol::lol:

Well i guess you got the important skill right

Is gonna be awesome when its finished - and get on with getting that g60 :ninja:

i'm really trying for the G60 mate, i'm offered him a real good deal but he's still uming and arghing about it, i need to get it before the pikeys just tow the fucker away or some little scrotes touch it for him

i took the front plastic valance thing off as well and gave the front bumper a lick of matt black, not sure if i like it without the valance thing on it though...

I prefer it with the valance tbh....

And dont let that g60 slip away ;)

its pretty battered though, i was planning to brace it with a bit of metal, melt it back together and skim some filler over it but i've just noticed there's a bit missing, still might give it a bash tomorrow and see how it turns out. i've took the splitter off it though, fake lowness FTL!

only a 1star rating? Deserves a hell of load more!

cheers mate, i didn't even notice the star rating thing if i'm honest, i really need to pay more attention

i've now got the colour scheme and exterior styling all sorted in my head, its not one for the purists though but hay ho i'm building this for me, i think its safe to say i have never seen a scirocco (or any other vw i don't think) done in this theme, it may work, it probably won't but only one way to find out, watch this space :-D ...

if u put that valance on I'm guna just rip it back off in the middle of the nite guss haha if i dont take it off the speed ramps will

  • Author

haha, i'm still not sure if i like it without it, i know what your saying about the speed bumps though

Another project? G60?

where the fuck have i been?

Your welding skills look good to me mate.

Think you need to get this done so you can play with some forced induction :unibrow:

the lower valance looks sweet with the azevs, proper mean look.

if you aint gonna refit it put a cl splitter on there cos mk1s look stupid with no splitter, whenever i saw mine without it front the front and side i was like urgh, thats disgusting haha

and your welding looks spot on man how did you hold the plate in place without it dropping into the wing when you were tack welding it on?

oh and id take the wings off an prod around, I've found some rather choice holes in the golf upon closer inspection underneath trims, underseal and wings!

  • Author

the plate was held there with a strip of masking tap lol. it only had to hold it there for the first spot and there's no plastic inner arch things in this so i could hold the plate from underneath while i taped it in place

i think if i can't save this valance i'll try and find another one, the lad i got it off had 2 sat in his garage when i popped down at the weekend so might be able to blag one of them off him. defo look's better with it imo.

any way, off to do some more welding on it now, wish me luck

Valance is a must and keep up the good work. Coming on a treat :-)

Built not bought for the win!!

this week i have been mostly working on the drivers door, which turned out to be a lot worse than it looked, and it looked pretty bad

i've only got photo's of the work i've done at the bonttom of it but that was the worst part any way...

after knocking all the old filler out i was left with this

271020091041.jpg

271020091042.jpg

cut out the shit and took it back to the metal and slapped some kurust on

271020091045.jpg

after a lot of welding

281020091049.jpg

bit of filler

291020091051.jpg

then primer baby

291020091062.jpg

291020091061.jpg

only took 3 days to get to this stage, this car could take a lot longer to get sorted than i thought

Looking forward to seeing this car when it's finished....

thanks for the comments every one

i've not really had the time or the weather to do a great deal recently but i have got the bonnet and boot lid finished, hopefully the weather will be on my side this weekend and i can get on with some of the other body work.

i'm not having a great deal of luck with the G60 conversion so i'm looking for other options, so far i've been thinking tuned 1.9TD or a 16v on bike carbs.

the G60 conversion i was after is well and truly out the window now so i'm on the look out for other options. i've just missed out on a 16v on throttle bodies but i'm waiting for details on a turbo'd 16v thats for sale on the mk1 owners club so we shall see...
