Trabants - an east German car they made during the cold war for next to nothing. Equivalent to a Lada/pre-VAG Skoda but lower rent... Basically the cheapest car they could make so every Commie could have one!

am i ill for liking the orion!

I've had a couple of 80s Onions - not great cars,i figured they were not worth putting the effort in. Squat-handling meets immediately rusty rear arches and contrary to being more refined they somehow managed to sound even more like they were dragging their 'just married' collection of bean cans behind them.

A cheap answer for the Ford veterans who couldn't stomach the invention of the hatchback, the link between the hatch door lines and Cortina-derived tail lamps suggest the stylist was on maternity leave in 1982.

Could be worse - could be a Trabant. I know of no other car on the planet more cheaply made.

Its lawnmower engine was the inspiration behind the conception for The Crazy Frog sketch - the guy who created it had a mate with a Trabant and when it started up it sounded like this.. Ahh, DING, didding, ding, diddiing, ding, dinn, phut chut, dar, daddar, darr..

 nice one

I've been searching for decent crazy frog lyrics for ages... :?

Actually, it says on Wiki that some Trabants came with a 1.1 Polo engine!

Haha shows that wiki is full of sh*t! It has a 600cc 2-stroke engine that develops about as much horsepower as a ride on lawnmower.

Nope, the Trabant isn't that bad ;)

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Trabant

And yes, it really is one of the worst cars in history. I still love it though! haha

 A tip for you mate, do a bit of research before you make yourself look like a idiot. The 601s came with a 600cc 2-stoke engine, and the car in question if you didn't read before is a 601s, or 'deluxe'.

The later Trabant 1.1s came with a VW engine, and they were produced for less than a year, and look very different to the 600s and 601s I posted before.

Oh yeah an sorry to piss on your bonfire a bit more, but they weren't RWD or fibreglass either! Made from FRP.

That's good as I'm not using a website as a resource, I'm using a book my dad has on old east german cars!

Yes, correct the one you pictured was the one of the later models I was talking about!

But, the car I posted earlier is a 601s. Which does not have a VW engine!

I'll show you the differences if you'd like!

This is the 600cc block!

1.1:

Vw 1.05 engine.

So you can see the two are very different, yes?

And the "special german fibreglass" youre talking about is actually Duroplast, which IS an FRP.

Oh well i can`t see them big diffrences u were talkin about...

We do not talkin about engine diffrences bcoz thats pretty obvious, u can`t define what engine is in trabi from 1st pic u have posted, so stop behaving like an total ass only bcoz you are dad got a book about german cars...

Actually some peoples grown up around them.

Mate I can't even be bothered to argue anymore! You're trying to say I've got my facts wrong when they're written down in front of me in black and white... Just re-read my posts. An yes you can tell which one is which, just look at the grills for a start! 601s were NOT fitted with VW engines. End of!
