Ok you see a polo broken down at the side of the road

Featured Replies

Doesn't matter if it a Polo, VW or anything, TBH.

If I've got time, and my tools with me, I'll more often than not pull over to ask if they need a hand. 90% of the time they've either got it sorted, or the AA / RAC / Green Flag is on the way anyway, so they say thanks, and I carry on.

One guy a few months ago had his bonnet up on his Mk1 Golf, I had a car full of tools, asked if I could help. He didn't know what was wrong, temp was up, and water had disappeared, but was going to carry on. After a quick inspection, I found a water pipe had a huge hole in it from a rock he must have hit just before. I just told him under no circumstance, do not drive the car, and showed him why, he was just going to top up!

He sent me an e-mail as thanks, after he'd got towed home, for not letting him melt his engine.

It's good for the soul.

I was driving to uni one day and there was a fiesta at the side of the road with 2 women in it. They weren't so far from the little village and i thought i wouldn't be able to do anything...so i went to uni for about 3 hours and on the way back they were still there but with a recovery truck. It was a woman and her eldery mother....really wish i'd have stopped now

I've broken down a few times and guys have always stopped to help. Once i was on the way to a meet in Preston and my headgasket nearly died and all the coolant come out, i was at traffic lights. So i was looking under the bonnet and letting the engine cool down and this skinny rough looking guy with a fag appears with his arms stretched out as if i was a scared gazelle ...'ITS ALRIGHT LOVE! WIFES INT CAR...ITS OK, I'm A MECHANIC' hahaha he probably thought i would mace him. He actually climbed into my engine bay and did a pikey repair, in the meantime saf and rob arrived and took over from the nice guy.

To be honest I'd probably do nothing. Thats not cause I'm a bastard, its because there has been a few times I've seen people driving a car with an 'issue'. Once it was a woman whos back wheel looked like it was about to fall off. Pull up next to her and was tooting my horn and waving my arms about. I knew she knew I was trying to get her attention but just ignoring me. Eventually got to some traffic lights when I got out of my car, knocked on her window and kicked off with her about it saying I was only trying to help and she should be paying more attention. I mean if your wheel is not bolted on properly you can generally tell through the vibrations.

Another time I followed a woman who had no brake lights. Same thing again, tried to get her attention but she wanted none of it. Got to some traffic lights and told her the same thing. Pay attention you have no brake lights, it an accident waiting to happen. I've had a few instances like this now so instead of being helpful I just let people get on with it. Its always with women though.

i have the SAME thing with woman drivers.

i was driving through amsterdam, and this chick in a twingo had her rear fog light on (blinding me).

after a few min of taking that, i flashed my lights a few times, to signal to her that her light was on.

she didnt understand, so she sped up.

luckilly the bridge was open and she had no where to go.

i jumped out, tapped on her glass, and she looked dead scared of me (I'm brown?)..

she was quite cute, but i said to her, "hey, you know you are busy blinding me with that fog light?"

she said she didnt know, and was wondering what that light was on her dashboard(!)

she then said "uhhhh... i dont know where the button is"... and was looking to turn it off.

i found it within a second, and pushed it for her, and said thanks.

how can one NOT know how to operate a simple button in a car where there are only about 5?!?!!?

woman driver rant over.

sorry lol

Must admit I would stop, but have never came across that situation where I could stop in time and safely as it's usually on the motorway.

I would stop because I have been in a situation where no-one would stop for me. My rear tyre had been punctured by a hollow tip spike from a spike strip that had been left on the road =/

My phone battery had died and not a single person would stop even to lend me a phone when I was stood there like a plank waving for help. After a few minutes I saw the inevitable orange flashing lights and for the first time, I was grateful that motorway patrol came to my aid.

They asked was I with recovery...to which I said yes.... and I just said, my mate is down the road, i'll give him a ring.

So they let me on the way, got me to pull over a little more and stay out of the car etc and run down the 2 hour ruling :)

Thank God for them.

Apart from a lack of thanks when letting them past a parked car,or an increasing culture of aggressive driving and tailgating now they drive highly power assisted cars, and the way they take all day to park,i dont find women to be a particular problem.

Some people are just stupid and i have no time for them - there was a Rover 800 i stopped for on a motorway, four orientals standing around the open bonnet happy to see me.

It was running hot, power loss, and there was a red symbol lit up on the dash. It was out of oil. I asked about servicing, because it didnt have an oil leak. It hadn't had an oil change,or even check, for the few years he'd had it.

I actually had some oil,but wasn't giving it to him - i just told him to call the RAC and drove off.

Haha, cruel but kind mikey.

After all, would they offer you anything for it? Probably not.

A guy in an off-road ready type landy discovery stopped and offered to tow me once. He was fit, he had farmer cheeks and strong arms. Kind of wished i wasn't with the AA at that point. Good way to meet someone i reckon!

I've broken down more times than i care to remember, and two people have stopped, once when i was in a mini, they just asked if i was OK to which i said it was the dizzy gettin wet, itll be reet when its dried in 10 minutes and then told me about an upcoming mini show at stamford hall which was ace,

the second was when id ran out of fuel in the crashbot, an ace elderly couple gave me a lift to the petty station and were saying they loved the cars artwork.

i remember cutting out at a junction and the car wouldnt start so told the fuckbean that was beeping behind me that if he wanted to get to work on time he'd better give me a jump start!

hoppy broke down in the crashbot when we first bought it, (he collected it for me) and some fit milf in a camper van stops...

why do i get the giwlfs? GHEY

i would help if it had suttle mods and the circumstances.

to be honest, i would probably stop. I did on way back from UD. apart from there was noone near the car!

One time following a car overtakin a bike. It underestimated a overtake and clipped a traffic island blowing the tyre out. So i pulled up behind with my hazards on. Got out to go help. She was mint! jacked car up and put her spare on. 8-)

i like to think i would stop

but i would depending on where it was and if the polo had any mods

i can help with most things and have a lot of tools in the boot at anyone time due to alway working on polo

but dont know how much help i would be

i think its strange that them being a polo driver makes a difference like bad people dont drive polo's or that if we tryed to help

a ford driver he would try to kill us for driving a polo

Depends entirely on the circumstances. Modern society means that if you pull over to "assist" a female polo owner on her own, she'd probably mace you.

You wouldnt even let a women use your cig lighter!

it was brand new!

^^ Fail.

I've got a tin of beans in the cupboard,i cant eat it - its brand new.

^ lol that made me laugh but to be fair to panda id be the same....

I've pushed a few women to the kerb etc if they've broken down in the middle of junctions,

A guy did follow me 5 miles home from work the other day nearly hit me like 4 or 5 times he was driving that close so i pulled up outside mine and he pulled behind an unknown car to me so out came my wheel brace i thought ffs I'm going to have to do him outside my house, so this guys come to my window ( i was in my t4) and says mate your brake lights are all out lol.

I stopped for a golden lab before i was in my camper on the way to college and knew if i didnt it was getting ploughed so i got hold of it rang all the numbers on the collar nothing , a woman also stopped she was "going to ask at the house around the corner" which was actually there.... the dog slipped its collor and did one thru some fields .... and btw the woman never came back !

Only broke down and been assisted once on the way to the polo show 09 ;) cheers guys! massive job broke out on the hard shoulder, and a couple of times when I've been out with a mate following etc all local ..... otherwise its AA time .. lol

not sure if i would pull over and help... too many radge people own them round here...

when i crashed mine every one just looked at me like i was mental parked in a bus stop....

nasty peoples :(

Tbh I'd be pretty useless at trying to fix anything although I think I could change a tyre, which I certainly would :). Depends on the person really though, if I thought they were creepy I'd floor it :p.
