excess power

Featured Replies

Your having a bubble mate. lol a 1.4 8v pulls like a g40? must be a slow g40

OBVIOUSLY not the same a little exageration yea but I'm after some positive feed back not critisism the car is accelerating too fast in 2nd n 3rd the car is guna be for my gf it is alot quicker than my mates equivalent 1.4 mpi 8v the same car yr and model i just want some suggestions to fix it so she doesnt smash it and get hurt

i had simillar experiance with my 1.3 spi you could set off normally and once it was passed 2grand it would light up the wheels and hit the limiter mainly 1st 2nd not so much 3rd

8v spi's do have a good amount of torque usually around 3k peak which is what will make the wheels break traction 155s and 13" rims aint doin you any favours i had these on my steels it made the car handle like a skidoo! and in the wet it was quicker to walk due to all the wheels spin and lack of traction

my advise would be to put a bit of advance on the dizzy to shift the torque peak uop the rev range a little i did it on mine gives you a bit more oomph for overtakes too

and defo get wider rims and tires prob 14" if you aint into big wheels although tires are cheaper for 15's

it does take a while to get used to the power characteristics of these cars if your used to modern drive by wire kak the ecu on new cars interfere with acceleration and throtle control

Well it wasnt that OBVIOUS that you was exagerating tbh mate.

Perhaps your mates one has something wrong with it, why does it have to be yours?

To me it just sounds like the clutch is slipping under load, but you just think its spinning up.

I had a 1.4 8v 6n, and i could barely get a chirp out of the tyres when ramming into in 2nd gear quickly, and that wasnt a slow 6n by any means.

theres no faults that could cause excess power...or all the little chavs would be fiercing up thier cars with the same faults

as said , its either slipping clutch , cheap/hard tyres , very bad alignment ...or just bad driving

i think we need a video of this setting off

Agreed, from the outside so we can see if it's actually slipping.

has someone snuck in at night and fitted a turbo without you seeing?

as someone else said cars generally go slower when something is wrong with them, not faster. Maybe it's your mate's car that has the problem, not yours. It just sounds like youre getting wheelspin due to wet, greasy roads and not great tyres.

So wots the remedy to fit a slipping clutch will it do any damage to the car

Usual fix to a slipping clutch is a new clutch.

Unless its just poor adjustment on the cable causing it to slip.

or maybe you need to adjust the bite point of the clutch so you can get some more control? or maybe feed the throttle in a bit more gentle? learn to drive?

I've been driving 11yrs thanks very much how do u adjust the bite point of the clutch

if its a hydraulic clutch there isnt anything you can do really, simple answer though, if you dont want to spin the wheels when you pull away use a bit less throttle perhaps? unless the throttle position sensor is broken so that its at 100% throttle, its just poor footwork

sounds like a supercharger to me

What tyres are u running? Are they budgets?

I've been to sheffield auto diagnoxtics n av been told the ecu is not from my car not sure wor its from

What tyres are u running? Are they budgets?

I'm running 155r70/13"s but its not the traction it the 2 n 3rd acceleration i av been to auto diagnostics n told the ECU is not the right 1 i am experiencing hard acceleration in 2nd and 3rd no whell spin juxt acceleration i have had alot of piss take answers i just want help anyone got any answers

i found 6Ns to be shit to drive anyway, the clutch was dull and heavy and you can hardly control the revs at all with the throttle pedal.. they are either fast or slow lol

it's probably the same for you.

so theres no wheel spin , just amazing mental acceleration?

if you believe theres a fault with the ecu...sell it on ebay , most of the members on here dream of better acceleration from thier underpowered polo

quite!

although,it will certainly be a cable on a mk4.

What do you mean the ECU is not the correct one for the car? if the ECU was the wrong one you wouldn't be driving the car simple as. The wrong ECU won't have the immobiliser code and won't have the right perimeters for the engine to actually run

/\ Lol ,

Glen The mechanic "Baz This Polo out on the yards ECU is fucked, we got any others int warehouse?"

Barry The mecahnic "Nah dont think we have, Just wack that old scooby one in , that should work."

Glen The mechanic "ahh good thinkin mayte!"

As said above each car has a specific number of ecu's that will work, for example Mk3s a few mainly because of what year they wqere built in , they have like 090 8978 7678 H or 090 8978 7678 A , dont quote me on the random numbers lol,

Unless its been chipped in the past. It hasnt got "the wrong" ECU.

i actually meant, for example there might be 2 different VAG 1.4 8v ECUs for a mk4 but even if you had the alternate one, it would need recoding on vag com for a kick off, and i'm not convinced you can just swap the alternate ecus between each other?

Well , andy for fahrverghugen tuning think his name is, i rang him up asking about a chip for my mk3, and i gave him the model number of my ECU to check specs ETC , and the chip would run fine on a number of ECU's made for the Mk3 so I'm guessing that theres a few that would work.

I dont really understand what's going on here, it's accelerating too hard?

yeh as in when he accelerates he almost gets thrown out of the boot. :-(

Throttle position?

Take the ecu out an see if its been chipped.

If it has been i wouldnt complain...
