and g-lader blocks.

Might be fitting a show cage and strut braces if i get some.

Winter mode!

Gave the polo a well needed clean and fitted the steelies for the winter, might put the classics back on though but they need a major clean.

Also got Corrado front seats (so much lower and feel so much better), G-Laderseite blocks, VWII calipers and pads, new mirrors and baseplates.

Still to get: Front discs, bottom arms, 5-speed arb, front lower and rear upper braces.

i actually love your car haha ! maybe not in winter mode as them wheels are gash much preffer the classics even tho they may be a little bit inpractical haha ! i have an m reg boulevard flahs red and am getting some classics this weekend ! fortunatlly i have a choice 4 7j's or 2 7j's and 2 8's ! just a bit cautious whether traffic cops are gonna pull me for having 8's ! as you may notice they stick out like an inch from the arches :L but i LOVE your car !

Nieve: what are G-ladder blocks and what do they do???

Want  i need a mk3 in my life

  • Author

cheersfor the comments guys!

The classics dont stick out an inch from with arch its probably half that, The steelies were on it for about 3 days and i decided that they were shit to drive with because when you brake you just dont stop! and they look shit cos they're only 4.5j!

g-ladersite blocks are made from nylon and stiffen your front end up by huge amounts. They also draw your anti-roll bar forward which centres your front wheels in the arches after lowering and improves handling alot.

anyway, lastweekend I upgraded my front brakes to VwII's (standard g40, 8v golf gti etc.) with drilled and grooved disks. had to grind a small flat on the face of the caliper so that they fit under the wheels perfectly.

I also replaces the bottom arms and fitted the arb blocks and what a difference!

The old bottom arms were really bent and when I did the tracking the guage was reading 2.5 degrees toe in!

so with all that done in time for the snow the car feels so much better to drive!

more pics to come.

how have you bent the tca's

I didn't bend them, it must have been the previous owner hitting a kerb or something. Who knows

Hy, just wanted to say well done to all the work you put in the car. it looks awesome for something that started as a fox. well done once again.

now i do have a question about the changes on the engine, primarily the new aluminum rocker-cover. i wanted to do this on my polo, but i noticed that the alu one doesnt have that breather hose or whatever its called on top of it. does this cause any problems for the engine? also is it possible to fit the later air-filter housing that goes with the rocker cover an the plastic engine cover?. thx in advance :-D

I haven't had anyproblems without it. I prefer the original cover now that it's all on. though.

I'm not sure If the later housing will fit. It does on the 6n but I Don't know if they attach to the carb in the same way. Plus they are difficult to open up. there's about 6 or 7 screws that hold them in and 9 times out of ten they are corroded.

Engine conversion time soon...well, after christmas. I'm thinking of a 1.6 AEE from a skoda felicia (just because it's probably cheaper and had an easier life) with the usual mods... golf 8v gti injectors and AFM, 4-branch, stright through de-cat ss exhaust. Iduction kit, chipped gt ecu and loom etc. with Gt gearbox.

The car's only got about 40bhp as it is so the new setup should have at least twice that. can't wait!

You wont need any different injectors dude, If your getting the standard set-up with the original throttle-body and injector(s) I would just leave it as it is. You can't just add a GT ECU and loom as well, Its not designed for that engine, Is the AEE the SPI engine out of the two 1600 motors?, cant think of the other engine code that is a very similar engine.

If your going to start modifying it for power, I would either run in on a bank of motorbike carburettors, Or use a GT MPI fuel set up with relevant throttle body and inlet manifold. You will have to do a cut and shut on the GT and AEE inlet manifolds.

The golf injectors are bigger than the AEE ones which are apparently pretty small. I've saw it done before. the AEE is the MPI the ABU is SPI,

AEE conversion link

I don't want to go down the route of bike carbs or webbers etc. Too much hassle trying to source mk2 ignition setups etc and trying to get the fuelling right is supposed to be murder. GT MPI setup is the route I'll be going down..

I just missed a fewthings off the list lol and yeah I know the manifolds need to be welded.

Edit: I still have to do a bit of homework on it obviously. I'l probably get the engine and build it up/ do some work on it for a few months before it goes in the car.

Yeah but your not going to need the bigger injectors I was saying. The GTi injectors are designed for a much more powerful 1.8 OHV engine, not the 1.6 AEE.

Your original injectors will be fine for what you want from it.

Its up to you with fuelling methods obviously, but I definitely wouldn't say setting up the engine to run on carburettors is harder than the way your going to have to do it.

The work on the manifolds has to perfect or you will have big problems with flow and leaks etc.

thanx for that, i think ill try it and see how it ends up. cheers

I understand all of that mate. It's not like I'll be supergluing them together, If i were to get it done it'd be sent to an engineering firm.

I would just prefer an AEE, a g40 is far too expensive for me. A gt lump is a 20 year old 1.3 ( i know its powerfull but I'm not prepared to spend loads of money stripping it down an rebuilding it only to find I cant squeeze more than 100bhp without loads of work, plus the fact it's difficult to find a cheap donor car with low miles) and I don't want a 1.4 16v as they're problematic. An aee is probably the most powerfull cheap conversion from what I've gathered.

It has slightly mate, it sounds a whole lot louder and more raspy than before. In terms of performance its not very noticable. considering its a 16 year old 1.0L engine with about 45/50bhp standard you're not going to notice very much of a difference in terms of bhp by modifying the air intake.

alright mate i have a 1l 92 polo coupe :)

is that actualy a 1.6 or just the plastics and rocker cover off one ?

also is it carb or injection ?

Lowered the car over the weekend and what a difference it makes.

It's sitting on 60/40 phil J kit on 145/80/13 all round looks alot better but it's crying out for a set of wheels.

The driver's wing is still not finnished but i just put it on to see how it looks.

Also cleaned some of the bay with a wire brush and bought some mk2 arches and sills.

Not updated this in a while as there's not much new.

However, I did have a mega fuel leak about a month ago due to a corroded puel pump (it's lasted 16years or so so i can't complain). So new fuel pump, filter and some hoses got it back on the road.

Plans for this year are:

Tidy up the bodywork -winter has been a bit shit to the polo.

Fit front arch trim

and

1.6 Aee conversion

Some sort of sound system

possible show cage

That is all for now :D

  • 1 year later...

This thread was the reason i got an alpine white polo. Its taken me ages to find it again, shame it got wrote off.
