i see a good money making scheme here...

Buy sometihng shit and leave it to rot in the garden for a few years - then scene tax it to fook 8-)

We just scrapped a 'Rat' Astra at work, damn what was i thinking of, i should have bought it then!

all astras are rat and therefore worthy of the scrappy...

its all they're worthy for.

All I ever read on this forum is

"I hate rat"

"I love rat"

"I love Jap cars"

"I hate Jap cars"

"I hate euro cars"

"I love euro cars"

Jeasus, cant anyone judge each car as it comes??? Without having this massive prejudice over what 'style' it is?

Its like if I say my car is a 'Rat' on this forum (which it isnt so i dont) before i had even posted a picture half of you would have already judged it.

People go on about how forced rat is a total fail but then you get some picture of some scene tastic forum bummed car (Think a good example was Rolo's mk3 golf) and everyone licks its ring, shortly before going back to preaching how gay forced rat is.

i also hate chavs!

The irony of forced rat is that it smacks in the face of rat.

Rat is a restored/modified running chassis with the unrestored body thrown on because the owner wasn't fussed about cosmetics or wanted to put all the resources into the rest. Its the car for petrol-heads,not ponces.

Forced rat is usually the complete opposite - a dump car that's given a ratty look to give the appearance of rat because that's all that can be done cheaply. This doesnt work with a car that doesn't have a seperate chassis of course, but its all about looks so that technicality can be brushed aside.

Then we have this new-rat. A new car for whatever reason, given a rat-esque cosmetic pack (coming to a factory options list near you soon..) in order to.. Well,i dont know.

Makes about as much sense as a completely rusty bonnet on an otherwise mint car - grow some balls and rust the rest of your MK6 Golf, then i'll be impressed.

Someone who understands :-D Ratty cars have been around since the first Rodz, people who could do most of the work themself or took a while to save up for bits but couldn't afford the spray job straight away.

out of intrest what would you class the brown beetle as ?

air cooled is allowed to look like that

clearly forced, but I have no issues with that.

The brown one, with naturally black wings, looks like he got 98% of the work done (including paint-prep) but then couldn't be arsed to wait for it to be painted before screwing most of the trim on and taking it out for its first run.

Bit too tidy really, had too much bodywork, bit to far down the resto to leave it. As a result, looks a bit forced - was likely a reasonably tidy one that got a rub down and new/satin'd wings to get the former look.

I'm going to scream. It seems there has to be a purpose for everything now. Those two beetles have probably taken more time and effort to get looking like that than it would have taken to have them shiney. Its been done because it looks cool. Just like the earlyest rat cars were, this 'couldnt afford paint' lark is largely exaggerated. Its about making a statement that you dont give a shit.

Fail.

Intresting opinion :-)

I personaly wouldn't say its a ratty Bug, its clean and smooth and doesn't have any of the dirtyness of a "rat"

the black wings, rub through etc are all changes that have been done to keep the car fresh and different throught the show seasons

Couple of photoz throught its life in a friends hands

the newbie with the oldskool windup key and rusty bonnet is just wrong, the guy who owns it is a very nice chap tho and the rusty bonnet was inspired by my mates brown bug :-D

like it man! original colours sweet! brown suits it well! swap cooler! must hav cost a pretty penny!

u ever been down to out KeyneOnDubs meets? come down sunday?

that looked mint before :-(

Looked epic until the bonnet went rusty...

But a lot of the cars we see now are done because they cant afford to make them mint. Which in a way is fair enough because a full respray is bloody expensive at a body shop.

But why try and make it look worse just to attempt (and fail) to follow a trend?

Some people can get any car they like and pull it off.. but thats because they think of new ideas and try things they like. instead of buying fastcar and copying everything of each car in there and shoving it all into there 1.0L 6n.

Rat:

body work needs to be slightly rusted and abused. but its need to be NATURAL!

And most of all. if for example you are doing it for some odd reason to a 6n. It requires nothing smaller than a 1.8T . As that is the point behind rat. they are sleepers.

mine werent natural rust and got alot of love from peeps

you know what annoyed me,there was a guy at edition with a yellow lupo, rusty bonnet, roof rack full o shite, sticker in every window and he was going round it polishing it and i mean really going at it..............dont get that! :?

stickers and a roof rack dont make it rat!

and no offence what so ever but that breadvan is everything thats wrong with the rat scene!

if ud had some stupid lump in the bay then it would be funny, but if i was to see that out on my travels id just think it was a shitter on the way to the tip, not a modified rat car

i love this car, it just looks so abused but not in this 'LOOK I"VE DRAWN A COCK ON MY BONNET AND HAVE A ROOF RACK" kinda way

rat look cars work so much better when they are made to look like its natural imo.

it would be better with some thing like a G40 in it but the same could be said about a lot of cars

but if i was to see that out on my travels id just think it was a shitter on the way to the tip, not a modified rat car

Thats the idea ;)

Slacker, it looked awesome tbf.

One of those cars that's had a lot of thought put into it. that's why it worked.

He got the cooler at a Hot Rod swap meet for £100 8-)

Its Low n Slow meet on sunday ;) so ill proberly be over there

that looked mint before :-(

Yah,looked nice, but the paint wasn't to good, have been resprayed the year before and was already bubbling through!

Looked epic until the bonnet went rusty...

The bonnet was done Early 08 and was the only rusty bonnet i saw at Bugjam that year :retard:

(and its a spare, got a brown one that is on it most of the time!)

You have to be a dubber to understand the "rat" look?????? Are you for real!?

IMO the rat look is for people who want attention who haven't got the money (or sense) to do something nice.

It depends on your definition of 'nice'. Personally I see no attraction in polished paint and shiney wheels.

but if i was to see that out on my travels id just think it was a shitter on the way to the tip, not a modified rat car

i miss it now, specially as the mk3 has bin nowt but trouble since i've had it!
