lol yes ino that, but am saying its with the intent on making them rat.

hehehe i know what you meant dude :-p i was just playing :-)

your a poo head mr walshy

Smithy, you didn't make that picture your self did you?

Hell no man, i dont have that kinda time on my hands

You clearly made it your self, as soon as you seen this topic started, you bashed google for all those pictures! :p

I'm surprised the topic is still alive tbh, i made a rat topic once, and it was gone by the time i come back.

I'm gunna call my car RAT so I get into FASTCAR yo!

All we need now is the worlds 1st murdered out rat.

Rust EVERYWHERE, like, over the windscreen man

Would that not just make it a russian tank?

people that spray matt black with a fast 10min halfords paint special does my head in

I like toby's satin steel blue though. and various other well thought out satin colours

Its just the rushed jobs done on the cheap then declair it as "rat" that annoy me

I'm doing mine matt black for a variety of reasons, none of which involve rat look:

1) I genuinely like the finish - also no cars in my area are matt, black or otherwise.

2) I can spray matt. (can't spray laquer competently)

3) I beleive that I can acheive a better standard than other non-proffesionally done matt cars - I remove each panel to spray it and will not tolerate any sort of uneven/patchy-ness

4) It's much cheaper than a pro respray and allows me to smooth/de-rust as I please. Also I am not under the illusion that my polo is worth ploughing £1500 into for a respray in storm grey, yes I have a sexy ass MJ retrim with recaros, BBS RSs, a decent base engine (valver) and a nice boot install (thanks to a mate and his fabrication skills) but at the end of the day, to a potential buyer, it is a 'souped up polo innit' and thus worth about a month or so's wages. Why spend almost the value of the car again on a chequebook respray when i can put in some time, use up some bored weekends and ultimately be able to look at my car and say "I created that, by myself. (with some help from friends :-p )"

I would be most fucked off if anyone called my finished product 'rat' just because it's matt.

Why not just paint it with a roller. Let it dry off properly and then wet flat it all back then hit it with a machine polisher. You'll be able to achieve a better standard of finish then without having to paint it matte.

I think some cars look okay and can pull it off but some look like an utter heap of s**t!!! :D

the only difference between a sweet ass rat and some cringe-worthy bag of shit that makes you feel embarrassed for the kid driving it is imagination (and in some cases some pimp as fuck wheels).

coouple of examples...

win win

I love rat!!!!!!! but proper Rat!!!!! aircooled, hot rod etc. no shitty breadvans that have writing on with biro!

The irony of forced rat is that it smacks in the face of rat.

Rat is a restored/modified running chassis with the unrestored body thrown on because the owner wasn't fussed about cosmetics or wanted to put all the resources into the rest. Its the car for petrol-heads,not ponces.

Forced rat is usually the complete opposite - a dump car that's given a ratty look to give the appearance of rat because that's all that can be done cheaply. This doesnt work with a car that doesn't have a seperate chassis of course, but its all about looks so that technicality can be brushed aside.

Then we have this new-rat. A new car for whatever reason, given a rat-esque cosmetic pack (coming to a factory options list near you soon..) in order to.. Well,i dont know.

Makes about as much sense as a completely rusty bonnet on an otherwise mint car - grow some balls and rust the rest of your MK6 Golf, then i'll be impressed.

Real rat takes years to perfect 8-)

Forced rat can be done in a week.....

i like them dont care if its forced Rat or not still different

totally agree, its just people wanting to be in a clique but not having the balls to do it properly, just dipping there toe in the water so to speak. if your that bothered about damaging your car then should you really be ratting it? (albeit very lamely )

but that's the thing though, they ain't different, every man and his dog are painting there cars in primer and writing 'cock' on them in permanent marker. it was different 4 or so years ago, now its just repetitive, ratting a car is no more out of the ordinary these days than euroing one or any other type of style, and because most of the people doing it are just following every one else most of the cars just look the same, its very very rarely that you see a well executed rat (even more so now that the scene has been diluted by all this new rat shit).

Told you this thread was a bad idea

Tbh, I like it on new and old motors. But u do have to be a dubber to understand it.

pic-by-stephan-repke-vw-speed-a10a4.jpg

Why?

I'm sure anyone can understand a bonnet is rusty

son- "omg its magic how do they do that and what is it?"

dad- "thats a dubber secret we will never know son"

The thing about that Golf is, the bumper's rusty and it's plastic?!? Assume it's a wrap.

that ratty mk3 polo up a few posts is wank!

I'm pretty sure half the peoplr doing "rat look" cars are people who cant afford to do anythin to theirs, eg nice wheels etc. s just devalue it even more!

prime example of shit!!!!! there was a caddy up for sale a while ago, proper bag of shit, everything dented, but it had some sign writing and metal chains so was classed as "rat" n the bloke was askin a fukin fortune! i think ul all know the one I'm on about!

and this thread is a good idea! shakes thinks up a bit!

Thing with rat look is, most have pimp wheels ;) And they HAVE to have crazy engines.

So doing it because you cant afford it is a knowledge based fail. Well, its just a life based fail I guess haha.

And its been shaken up too many times already. I was guilty of starting the thread that did it

why does one of these threads pop up every week *bangs head against wall*

i saw that as well, don't get me wrong it looked cool as fuck, but he was asking mint caddy money for some thing that was fucked. that's the thing with rat cars, the owners think that because it gets lots of attention its worth a lot more than some thing that don't, but all the attention in the world doesn't take away from the fact it has a fucked shell, and once this fade is over what are you going to do with a worthless caddy that you paid 2k for?

there was also an orange mk1 golf 5 door for sale a while ago. this car had been found rotting in a field in Island were it had been for years, every panel was rusty as fuck (and not you lame ass surface rust) so fuck knows what the floor would of been like in it. they basically dragged it out of the field, got it running and put some p-slots on it (iirc) and drove it to a show (i believe you don't need an mot in northern island, or say he said any way) then put it up for sale for some silly amount and justified this price by the fact it got massive crowds at this show... this car was literally fucked, the shell was so far beyond repair, but he was asking silly amounts for it because it was 'rat look', in any other market this car would be worthless, but in rat look circles its worth a small fortune :?

i see a good money making scheme here...
