AFH, CBR600 Carbs, MK2 Ignition

Featured Replies

I've also got my rad fan on a switch haha =D

anyway check where they have fitted the power for the fuel pump. unplug the plug that goes into the back of the ignition barrel and wire your fuel pump off the black wire that goes into there and you should be reet.

you've lost me now, why put the engine to TDC if you're only going to put the dizzy to full advance anyway? surely that can be done without having to set the engine to TDC?

i'll double check the pump wiring tomorrow, and swap it over to the black wire if i needs it, thanks

and the pipes one the carbs that i haven't blocked off

Did you change the timing belt? I'm sure I read something about it in one of you many threads.if so i'd check that when the bottom end is at tdc both cams are at tbc and thier two marks coincide wi the mark on the head. Those hoses look like breathers,i've connected mind which is just one out of the middle to my oil breather ont block. Google for bike carb diagrams there is like an online etka for bikes. Its how I found out what all the pipes did on mine :) ps i'd use a lower psi pump and no reg just a tee piece.and keep an extinguisher int car

ok, i'll block them up today and see if that makes a difference, cbr600 fuel pump is next on the shopping list, the pressure regulator is crap so it's coming off asap!

yeah cambelt was changed, but i triple checked everything when i done it so all should be ok, i'll check again though

good luck bro, its a fantastic engine when its in and running and you wont have a day driving it without a smile!

is that how the carbs are on the engine now? it looks like the carbs might be at the wrong angle ,worth a go .

no, different silicone hose on the inlet now, the seal on the float chamber sits level, is that right or do they need adjusting?

right, i think i've been a complete idiot

was looking at the carbs yesterday and thought, hang on, this hose i've blocked off goes to the float chamber.......

i think i've been putting the fuel into a breather pipe instead of the fuel line

trouble is, i forgot to put any anti freeze in the engine didn't i, so now i have to wait for the engine to thaw out, and hope no damage has been done before i can try the engine with the proper fuel lines attached

No worries we all make schoolboy errors.we did the same when we fitted the weber 3234 dtml to the coupe. Fingers crossed its all sorted now mate.mine has ran well for 150 miles or more with no messing about with jets and has power all through the rev range. Hopefully you can bring it to the rolling road day

All the pipes above the chokes are breathers. The large ones just go to the atmosphere (i just took them off,no need for filtration). And the smaller ones are fuel bath breathers which go into your air filter/s (so no vapours float around the HT leads..).

it was the smaller ones you just described which i'd connected to the fuel pump, which would be why the engine still sort of ran, but with very little throttle response as the fuel was just running through at a constant rate i guess

anyway, hopefully got it all sorted now, and got 2 sets of jets to try so will see what it runs like with the 134's in for now :D

just gotta wait for the engine to thaw out now, 4 degrees outside at the minute, and i've got 5 big bottles of hot waer under the bonnet, with a blanket covering the engine and grill to keep all the hot air in

RR day would be cool, will pop along if i can :D

right, after swapping the fuel lines round so it all goes to the right place, defrosting the engine and re-filling with plenty of anti freeze, and pushing the car out because i don't have reverse (see the other thread  ) i took it for a spin, and it moves under its own steam, didn't take it far as i wanted to park up and make sure everything was ok and not on fire

it feels really down on power, timing is out i know that much but i don't think thats the only cause, could it be the jets? got 134's in at the moment so i could stick the 150's back in if it would be better?

I've just rocked mine to as much advance as the dizzy slot s will allow.not hooked it up to my timing gun but it flies all the way thru the rev range. Make sure you've got super unleaded and dial in loads of advance keeping an ear out for pinkin. What pressure you got the reg set to now? Happy days man. Btw I hope you keep an extinguisher int car :)

Ye ha bout time mate ,my dizzy is cranked round too but i only used a basic gun with vac advance still connected,

well done glad you found it now.

My best advice would be to take it to a RR and get them to set it up. Mine was running quite well when I put it all together (fixed at full advanced, and eyed position of dizzy cap). But is was running bloody great after it came back. They re-jetted the carbs/adjusted the fueling and adjusted the timing so it was perfect.

I know there are people on here who can do it themselves and I could have just left it as it was or messed with it a bit and got it running better, but for the sake of £200ish it was well worth the money. And if you had it spot on to start with it will prob only cost you £50-70.

found a place local to me that will set it up on the rollers for £100 all in :D
