I'm looking to put the eaton m45 supercgarger on my polo gti 2000 1.6 16v any ideas on where to start

is this mini cooper s supercharger which bolts straight on ?,if yes i cant find any info about it either :/

yes thats the one

trust me, an eaton charger WONT bolt straight on. then theres the issue of the wrong compression, mounting brackets, pulleys, getting it remapped, suitable camshaft..........

but i'm not after super power boost I've seen them on the lupos on youtube but still have no ideaabout what parts are required

Yes but what we're saying is that it's costly to get it working in the first place.

You'd need:

mounting brackets for charger

pulleys (toothed or twin V) & belts

pipework

intercooler

maybe bigger injectors

chip to allow use of all this

uprated camshaft

Some of this would have to be specially made for your application which isnt gonna be cheap for sure.

Block is virtually the same, just the 16v head that diff...

Stresshead is right, it will be a ballache, hard enough getting them running right on a G40 which is meant for boost nevermind on a high C/R engine not suitable for boost.

It is possible tho and as you say as been done numrerous times, just dont underestimate how much work is needed (and cash!)

Believe me it is very expensive, i had loads of work done 2 mine then phoned storm 2 see about a remap and they said i need 2 do a few more things 2 it before it gets remaped. aswell I've heard that the gti engine is weaker than the 16v engine, so u might want 2 take that in2 consideration.

why dose every one think you just bolt a turbo/supercharger on and thats it. the thing with the clips on utube is it dose not tell you how long and how much it cost to do and how long the car lasted befor it whent bang

Also depends if the ECU is capable of recognising boost? Maybe standalone management is needed (£500+)

Doubt it! A 20v lump supercharged dropped into your car will probably cost the same, if not more.

i wood say yes.. you cood spend £2k trying to supercharge your engine and for that you cood 1.8t your car and it wood be a lot faster and more raliabel

Depends how much the engine would cost, plus the charger and then the work needed to get it to run right. That's without adding the cost of swapping the engines over unless you can do it yourself?

Why supercharge an engine which has been proven to work really well with a turbo?

i miss read that. y wood you wont to put a charger on a car with a turbo you wood be betta just with the 1.8 turbo.

you can all ways put a bigger turbo on it.

the fastest fwd car in the uk is a 1.8turbo mk2 golf not a supercharged polo.

you will pick up a 1.8t engine and box and most bits you nead for about £1k

if it wos up to me i wood 1.8turbo it. no point trying to put a charger on it. (dont think there wood be enuff room in the bay for it)

You'd need roughly 25/30cm clearance in front of the engine to mount an eaton.

There's a mk3 on polo3 with a 1.8 20v turbo driving the rear wheels. Might be worth hunting it out for a read. It's had silly amounts of money thrown at it including a turbo upgrade so should give you some ideas although the cars been sold now.

1.8t in 6n2 gti cost around 5k I've been told :/, i was hoping that supercharging it will be alot less than that -.-"", so I'm going back to full stainless system cams and repam hopeing for 160bhp

thanks for the pic its so hard just to find a pic of a car with an eaton in hence the reason for looking on youtube. if i dont spend a little on this car then i will just waste more money on another faster car what is the point. i like my car but am just after a little more boost i have a ported and polished head going in i'm investing in decent cams and planning a remap at the final stage. all this will be done by me with a little help from someone with the intellegence in cars obviously not the remap i just need a head start on the items needed to put this charger on.

i got the charger off friend for £100 head for £320 ported and polished got bigger injectors on it gonna make the pipework and brackets myself. camshafts I'm getting although they are exspensive wondering if they are defo needed or not and defo getting chip done

I'd look into the compression ratio of your pistons too as i know they're not gonna be right to run boost. Some people use plates to lower the ratio but that aint ideal so custom pistons may be a good idea.

Speaking to someone like yoof or Andy (PPP) would be a good source of info.

Hello guys I'm the first person in the uk to stick an eaton m45 onto my lupo. It's been on there for a few years now and still going strong. I did most of the work myself and is pretty easy tbh. The list of things u need are charger, brackets, decompression plate, Intercooler, longer alternator belt a few boost pipes, pressure release valve. Then to get it all working get it to storm, get them to put an emerald ecu on. U are also going to need a new updated clutch. Any questions please ask
