I doubt the 185 Nangkang 601's are helping but i've always had problems and tried various tyres. These are probably the best i've ran in the dry (useless in the wet though) but i will invest in Yoko or something next time.

When these are nearly dead i'm gonna put them on the widened steels to check fit, and decide what to do from there.

If there's one thing i've always done which, perhaps, others haven't then it's ran long gearing. But like i say, it needs it. I don't use first, i tend to use third as long as i'm already moving, and it'd happy with 5th in 30-zones despite a 3.59 final drive.

I'll take a video tomorrow or sunday, if it's dry, of the instruments for a drive to the shop so you can see how it behaves.

Sorting this was tricky, as our roads are either 30mph or bypasses (i cut short of the bypass run, as it was too busy to show anything useful). But you get the idea.

Of course, driving around at idle is bad for the engine so this isn't how i usually drive, but it does drive like a diesel, it's actually not easy to stall, and it is normal for me to keep it under 2k in lower speed areas..

(Btw, ignore the temp guage - it's got the canbus sensor on it which the guage doesn't read properly).

It is nice, yeah (horrible raspy exhaust aside - that's coming off).

It does make for a bizarre contrast between 'go' and 'whoa' because a firm prod is needed to brake, but then transfer back to the throttle and whoosh! Not ideal on the school run etc where I find myself being tippy-toe, so it is giving me ideas about fitting a servo. The pedals would be more balanced then, and consistency should be easier. I think it'd be worth having, even if it means the car feeling more normal.

So, finally got the 7in rims on, at et19 i think, still with 185/60s (went for Proxes CF2 this time). Moody monday weather but i had to take it to the kart track entrance for the latest incarnation of THAT photo..

 

 

The fog lights dull it down, been meaning to swap those for the later driving lamps. I kept them in during the build, because i wanted to keep this B-reg car's early spec look, but they're not doing it for me. It broke a drive flange or something today, inner CV joint flapping about, although it made it home.. so i'll rectify the lights whilst i've got the tools out.

Issues on the front, arch clearance. Have had to raise it slightly, as the tyres are getting damaged. Otherwise it's all good, but i'm keeping my options open.

Maybe a different tyre choice would be better, 185/50? 175/50 175/60.....
