I was just reading through the scrappage guidlines on the net and found something interested yet totally stupid.

It seems CAT C & D write-offs are eligable for the scheme...provided they have tax, MOT, insurance and (here is the best bit) gets repaired and passes a vehicle inspections check!! When two weeks later it will be in a little cube on a landfill site!!

Very interesting guys, i'll just have to wait and see. I was under the impression that it needed an MOT and Tax, insurance and be able to run to get it there. Only thing I can think is that it will be towed or taken by a lorry.

Yeah because its so green taking a perfectly working car off the road, crushing it and leaving it in a landfill then polluting the environment more than that old car ever has by making a new car to sell to the customer.

On the government website it says the scrappage scheme's aim is "to get old cars off the road"

I'm still unsure as to why though, 10 year old cars on the whole are all paid for, already made obviously, all fitted with cats, all have ECU controlled fuel injection systems, all have to pass strict emissions tests every year. So how are they any worse than a new car really?

Thoe whole scrapage scheme is badly thought out and i for one won't be changing what i drive anytime soon.

Thing is before everyone is going out to buy these boring town cars they aren't doing their research into the car prices.

After a quick look on the internet I found

In 2008 the OTR price of a basic Vauxhall Corsa was £8670

In 2010 the OTR price of a basic Vauxhall Corsa is £10560

Thats an increase of almost £2000....wonder why!

to be fair, the scrappage scheme was meant to help stimulate the economy and if that goes down the shitter we wont be able to drive cars at all
