Basically, iv lowered the coilovers on the rear of my mk3 today, and i think iv gone a bit low as its not sitting right Its hard to explain, and iv lost the cable for my camera - however here is an awesomely detailed msn picture

The bit labelled rod is the part of the coilie bit which doesnt have thread, and is poking through the top

Sounds like you haven't fitted the bushes right or missed some bushes out as only the threaded part of the shock should stick through the car I think?

They are mk1 golf coils on a mk3 so they could be too long i guess

yeah something aint right there , even if you take your springs out , you still shouldnt see a rod poking through the top , on threaded bits :)

Is the topcap bit in that goes between the spring and bottom bush?

any way mate, here we go...

step one, you should be looking some thing like this, sping and top cap on, the bar coming through the middle with both threaded and non threaded part of the bar on show

step 2, slide the metal sleeve thing over and fit the first nut (i'm guessing this is where you've gone wrong?)

step 3, slide the rubber over the sleeve

step 4, fit to the car then fit the top rubber, washer thing and top nut
