that would be a late spec mk4 then...hook me up pal..:)..

fancy getting me it pretty please....just be a passenger one i think..as the drivers isnt a stubby...need a lhd one. :x

you can fit mk5 stubbies onto the late mk4 baseplates though. It's got all the mk5 dash etc. in it. Think it's a W reg

didnt realise they were worth money! probably want about £70 for the pair tbh

yeah..but saloons and variants are different i think to hatches...

would only need the passenger too as the drivers a large one.

if its a 2000 then same as mine so will have one stubbie one big one. maybe able to fit a mk5 6n2 lhd mirror to your base then if pandas correct? 6k mirrors have a slighty different shaped base plate to the 6n2 but not by alot. i got my drivers one in europe.

you use the late mk4 variant/saloon base plates and put a 6n2 stubby mirror onto it. This is the same way my mate fitted polo stubbies onto his mk3 golf (using 3.5 cabby baseplates and 6n2 stubby mirrors.

Also stubbies were available over here too, not just in europe. Infact, they were standard fitment for a few months, till VW got so many complaints about the mirrors being too small, then they changed it to the bigger mirror on the drivers side.

I got my stubby mirrors from an early 6n2, they're both stubby and both genuine VW.

If you'd like these mirrors, I'll try and pop down at the weekend and pick them up for you. However, i'll have to buy both mirrors and he won't sell just the baseplates. It's a VW specialist so I'd expect to pay around £70 notes for them.

if I'm honest i realy didnt like mk4 loons but bloody hell this has changed my opinion it looks well mate

sweeet...yeah if you can..and il get em off you at gti spring fest if your going...

so there both stubbys on a late spec mk4 polo..but one of the first ones made.

Very Early 6n2 hatchbacks had both stubbies

I'm assuming early mk4 late spec variants had them too.

I'll get you the mirrors on sat.

you got to get both mirrors stumpy and standard drivers side 6k late spec.. then get a stumpy drivers side 6n2 mirror and use the base off the 6k standard and the mirror/housing/ gubbings off the 6n2 stubby I'm guessing.

hope that makes sence.....

flippin hell its to complicaited..ahhhhhhhhhh...so i need 2 stumpys and a late spec drivers then swap a stumpy onto a late spec base for my drivers side and the pass will just bolt on.

can i not just use the base plate already on it as its coming of a mk4 estste?

think you've got it david :)

6kv late spec base plates

6n2 early stubbies

yesshh....i got it to now..haha

though didnt you say they were on a mk4 estste which is a 6k chassis so i wouldnt need the base plates.

if its coming off a 6k variant or classic I'm guessing it wont have two stumpy mirrors as the first ones to change to the later spec dash etc were W reg 2000 models which mine is.. mine didnt come with 2 stumpy mirrors unless god is on your side!!!

...best start sayin you hell marys!

david.

so what coilovers did you end up using mate?

I'm sat here, gutted that i just read all that shite about mirrors :-( most of it didnt even make sence hahaha. Serves me right though i quess for wanting to read every post in the build threads i look in :-(

The car looks sweet from the dead on side shot 8-)

When you get the air ride kit, and remove the spacers, will you be putting tyres on that dont look like an ass squeezing a turd out? hope so, will look much better i think :-)

Loving the idea of colour coding the mirrors too 8-)
