these are complete bollocks mate, just like all the "+25BHP" chips you can buy off ebay. all complete bollocks, and to be honest the people selling them are scammers.

if you want REAL performance, you have to buy REAL performance parts.

if car makers could add 25bhp and increase fuel efficiency by "up to 30%" for the price of this, why wouldnt they??

in theory a decent electric pump / turbine could produce enough pressure to 'feel' a difference, the main problem in my eyes is the speed id constant unlike a turbo or supercharger that the speed/ revolutions and output increase with the rpm of the engine.

i was going to hook one up on my old 1.0 arosa with a scalextric trigger style power/ speed increase control on the throttle linkage and see if it actually made any difference.

I wish I had known that before I bought a REAL supercharger.

1.45psi will make about enuf pressure to inflate a condom, I doubt very much it will do any better then taking your air filter off.

we've been through this before - it don't work! do you see ford vw gm Honda etc using these? NO! Toyota make there's go faster by jamming the pedals no electric superchargers for them.

if you have studied fluid/air flow theories then you would know that at 70,000 that thing would create restriction in the flow and would make you loose power as the air cannot flow quick enough through the spinning fan. at low revs it would help with throttle response - but fook all past that.

put it this way, if that was pushing 21psi into the engine then you would need extensive work to the lump, basically every thing you would have to do if turboing a car other than the exhaust mani ect. 21psi is a fair amount of boost pressure, especially if your putting it on a petrol engine.

imagine what would happen if you you just bolted a turbo straight on to your 1 liter polo, whacked the boost up to 21psi then took it a rag down the road, and then you will know why this isn't pushing 21 psi

Cool, that's what I was looking for. Some actual physics which proves (kind of) that this won't work. Some actual theories. Not just assumptions that it won't do anything because it's on a crappy website and no-one has heard of it before.

As for locking it, I don't think it should be done - stuff like this is actually useful information. Move it to the engine section if you have to, as at the very least it will save people constantly asking questions about these things, should people actually start buying them :lol:

It say peak power is 1.8KW which is about 2BHP. A G40 charger uses around 10BHP to run it so the thing will probably work to some extent. There's nothing wrong with an electric turbo as long as you put enough power in to drive it. Most of the Ebay ones are pathetically low powered. The battery is going to go flat pretty quickly though with a 200+ amp load; there's no way a standard alternator will run it.

Just had an idea; run an Eaton charger off a starter motor/battery with the whole lot mounted in the boot. probably a bit cheaper than the electric one as well.

A normal turbo just uses the exhaust gasses to spin the turbine. This uses the battery.

is this fan a sucker or a blower? Before or after air filter? It'll either blow air at the filter or attempt to suck air through it either way I reckon you get the same effect by whacking a cold air feed on and besides a cold air feed doesn't suck engine power

The Rotrex units can spin at a few hundred thousand rpm, but they're geared up internally. After all, they're essentially belt-driven turbos, so need to spin just as quickly as a turbocharger to be as effective.

However, regardless of that technical inaccuracy, this unit may well work as advertised - market leader Honeywell Garrett have invested a fair bit in recent years in electric turbos as downsizing to meet ever more stringent emissions regulations becomes the latest fashion. With the increasing appearance of HV batteries in hybrid drivetrains there's plenty of electrical power available in some vehicles to support such systems. Even in cars with just conventional 12V batteries, battery management systems (i.e. an ECU that monitors the battery state of charge) mean that you can push things much further by controlling electrical loads and generation.

Clearly you couldn't go and whack this on a boggo 1043cc Mk3 and use it all the time without the battery going flat, but if you're just engaging it to support transient acceleration then that's not a problem. Would be useless for boosting your top speed much, as you couldn't hold it in for long enough - but for the 0-60 dash it'd do just fine.

A pressure ratio of 1.45 means 0.45bar of boost, NOT 1.45bar... Pressure ratio is compressor outlet pressure (i.e. absolute boost pressure) divided by compressor inlet pressure (i.e. atmospheric in most applications).

So you've got 0.45 bar of 'boost', plus 1 bar to make 1.45 bar absolute compressure outlet pressure. Inlet pressure is atmospheric = 1 bar. 1.45 / 1 = Pressure ratio of 1.45. Done.

So in order to be an effective mod you couldn't do it to a proper old skool car where you would really notice a slight power boost. Sounds like a waste of time to me just give it a good service and you'd get just as much power if not more out of it

Guess it could work, but you have to use it as you would like a shot of NoS.... Cant see it being any good for your engine, the better it works the more it will damage a standard engine.
