Could always make a bit of an airbox with a cold air feed.

The 1.3 golf rad has the inlet/outlet on the wrong side for a 16v, and its no shorter height wise anyway. I'll see what kind of room there is with the carbs in there, mine may be slightly less than usual since i'm using a newly designed longer runner inlet, but the (positive!) trade off is almost zero flow losses against the standard head, it just requires more work shifting stuff around (alternator lower with different length belt, water outlet redesigned and probably radiator moving a bit)

I'll be making some kind of deflector for the radiator around the trumpets, the reduction in cooling should be negligable, and if there is enough space i'll be using an airbox.

Oh it will be a daily car by the way, all situations...

I'll post up pics etc when i'm doing the conversion if anyone is interested...
