300 quid!!! I swear loons are getting cheaper. Is that with tax and test? Bit of a tidy of the paint and should be a winner

  • Author

it has test till august had to tax it only had a few weeks on when i got it

Get something on those bumpers. It will make such a massive difference. the bumpers make it look a right shed, sorry

Looks pretty good other than that though tbh.

let us no when u get exahust bud might be interested in your standard 1

plans to come are

new wheels..custom exhaust..lower it around 60mm..g40 engine conversion..full respray..new interior..g40 brake conversion

only me that laughed at that? I'd put your plans in some kind of achievable order, you need to do the brakes first imo. Everyone wants a g40 and a respray but most just end up putting loads of stickers on it and possibly a rattle can paint job on a sunny day of boredom.

just for you charlie

g40 brakes

new interior (the drivers seat is knackered and its killing my back)

lower it

exhaust (sorry dan the exhaust thats on is goosed the back box has holes in it)

wheels

g40 engine

then respray in same colour so it wont be to expensive hopefully

then if i still want a badgeless grill ill get one and maybe a bonnet bra to protect it

hope that makes you happy charlie lol I'm not one to have an order of how to do things i just do them as and when i have time and money but as you say an achievable order is a good place to start ill be getting my bumpers done at weekend as I'm off they do make the car look poor i know lmao as i said the exhaust is only good for scrap value sounds like a snake hissing at the back and then an unending fart at idle lol but after alls said and done its great fun to drive and i wouldnt swap it at all as for the spray job i did that on my old ibiza went mad with black rattle cans everywere so this one is being done right and to a good standard without all the stickers that are there at the moment lol i did get bored that day and was determined not to go for the spray can so went for the rust primer instead ill try and keep you all updated with progress and pics as and when i get round to things by the way what would i have to do to convert my 1300 to a gt spec as its baffled me i mean whats the difference between them

blimey, use a full stop and we might be able to help

if you search the forum you'll find everything you need to know, in short the GT is an mpi with a closer range gearbox and a couple other differences but not much. I'd say a gt conversion is just as doable and much cheaper than a g40 but they are still great fun. Glad you aren't a fan of rattle cans, nothing wrong with DIY spray jobs but a lot of people ruin cars as they're desperate to see big changes for little dollar.

And you can use mk1 golf gti brakes or scirocco brakes for you conversion as they are the same as G40 ones. :)

For your bumpers the best stuff is a plastic restorer like a blue gel from bodyshop suppliers, fiver and lasts ages...really good stuff.

Good luck. :)

cheers bud i didnt know that golf brakes where the same, will i be able to put vented disks on, as cooking solid disks and very narrowly missing a tractor at 60 may sound fun but i can assure you by god is it scary.

It's VWIIs you want, pretty sure they are all the same as G40 so vented disks.

You can get lucky on ebay or at the scrappy.

  • Author

thank you very much i shall get to searching for them

Thats a nice wee loon looks solid enough. wee bit of work and it will be a very nice example :thumbsup:

some back to black, loose the stickers and a set of wheel should have it looking much happier.

update I've redone my bumpers today ill be taking the stickers off tomorrow and giving it a good old scrub down

  • 1 month later...

right seeing as I've not updated for a month i thought id keep you all updated I've took the origonal interior out and replaced it with a poverty spec one for the time being as my origonal one was falling to bit I've had to replace a few coolant pipes and resprayed the bad bits myself badly I'm just trying to keep things going till i have enough cash to send it in to a bodyshop for the dents to be removed and the spray job to be done will try and get some pics up today to show you all

look forward to the pics :-D . doesnt matter if the self painted bits dont look wow keeps the rust away which is more important.

think you have saved this  as if it got all stickered and matt-ed would be scrapped after a few years.

then after abit of sanding down and a few coats of paint they look like this

deletefile113.jpg

just need a set of tires and hit it all with a lowering stick then should look ok what you all think

god them wheels are nice mate. What were the others , them steelies? you know the spec of them?

Max

  • Author

the others are standard mk3 steelies. i think there 13x5.5j may be wrong but I'm getting them banded as i think the dish will look so much cooler
