They're both hitting the red line and would be doing so (and often do so) whether the other car is there or not.

That's not racing,its merely more than one vehicle shifting it at any one time. If it turns out car A is out accelerating car B then good for car A. Its a bit much for car A to have to slow down and duck behind car B for fear of being accused of racing.

Racing is when they affect eachother,and are desperate to be ahead of the other.

Back to the plot - mobile phone use is illegal why exactly? You're driving a car. People get killed. Kids get killed. Animals get killed. Because drivers are not paying attention to what they're doing in the one moment when they need to be.

Having said that,my point is with social flashing,which confuses other motorists. But a simple thumbs-up is not such an issue,as long as you're not disrupting other motorists,in my view (even though it seems I'm not entitled to one).

agree with mikey about the thumbs up bit. dont do it like 2 girls i saw and take both hands off the wheel and wave manically.

Well you may be,but I've never heard of any laws preventing people from labouring their engines within the speed limits.

Perhaps road signs should include G-force limits..

And as nobody has shown reliable answer to Effel's question of.. "So technically,its legal to flash other dubbers?" ..i conclude this topic hasn't been very illuminating.

Even though i've already said what i do, i relised today that i'm likely to point at another car, regardless of it being VW, Audi or even Renault, since i'm generally admiring it.

Well if the highway code says you can flash to alert other road users to your presence, then I'd say yes it's legal.

I see a dubber, I flash to alert him of my presence, he flashes back to confirm that he is also present.

Case closed, you'd think... but MikeyMK was waiting to pull out and mistook our flashes for a signal to go, he then laboured his engine within the speed limit, hitting the red line and narrowly avoiding me going into the back/side of him - moral of the story, heavy acceleration could be seen as dangerous driving, or it could have prevented the above hypothetical potential crash, and flashing could be badly interpreted, or people could use common sense and only pull out if it's safe to do so.

i gave way to the police today, and they flashed me to say thanks.......

Since getting my white vento, I've had no end of people wave/honk/flash me. Love it :)

Had some random in a mk6 fiesta start flashing me like crazy this morning on my way to work. Looked in my mirror and he was waving, dont have a clue who it was. Started to think that my exhaust might have fallen off again.

If people flash at me I just assume that something else has fallen off my car. Not that they're saying hi :p

get alot of staring while I'm in the GT, Ofden because u have to flash first then they respond.

I've started flashing all the newer dubs, like the reco's and Golf R's, with quite alot or respones back.

Even started flashing a local Unmarked mondao who pulled me a while back for some checks on the car, he flashes and waves back :)

Tbh flashing a fellow dubber isn't going to end any lives.

I've always loved the friendliness and enthusiasm of dubbers and simply flashing your headlights to say hello and show respect for a tastefully modded dub is surely a good thing. Just don't do it at busy junctions and no one's life is in danger!

But in some areas it can end lives, flash what appears to be a dubber, oh wait its some chav who bought not built, then you get chased........

and Mikey MK that is racing, in the eyes of the law, you would be punished for two cars hammering it. But saying that, its never going to stop. The my car is quicker than yours has been around for ages!

LOL this thread has made my day, been a while since I have been on ClubPolo.. and now I miss it..

Take a scenario like this:

Your coming towards me, your headlights are not adjusted correctly, as such I flash you to make you aware that your either on Full Beam or headlights are not right. Would you take this as a sign that you can overtake the lorry in front of you? If you do, your mental!

Why should you assume that the person flashing you knows whether its safe to overtake or not, they might *think* its safe... I wouldn't trust my life on the road just because a stranger has told me its ok to overtake now...

Just because people died due to pulling out because someone flashed them doesn't mean its illegal. If it its illegal, perhaps you need to go get the road traffic act out, and quote some numbers...

I flash police to say you can pull out. If it was illegal they would pull me (they don't).

Maybe we should adopt some morse code flashing, then we could do one flash for OK to overtake, 2 flashes for you have a shit car 3 flashes for respect...
