Well not too much of an update.

It's back in at Mr. Jackson, managed to break the cam and vernier :-( so weighting on a new cam from newman, along with a chip to be fitted when the cam is sorted, should my this go a bit quicker.

Also got some new lights, grill and grill spoiler to fit, along with some new wheels and some spacers to make them feel the arches a bit better :-)

more pics when I fit the lights and wheels :-)

  • Well thought I would dig this up again as time moves on, still got her and plan to get back on the road next year amongst my other projects, so hopefully will start working on soon. Got a specialist

Bit of time since any update, been sorting out one of my square headlight set ups for this and waiting for a few parts to arrive. Anyway new bolts and spacers arrived (still waiting for more parts) so couldn't resist sticking my wheels on.

Some Revolution RFX's in 14 x 6, fitted with 185/50 conti sports, with just 8mm spacers on the rear.

Had these wheels for about 4 years waiting to fit them.... finally got round to it, however wish i hadn't waited. Got these off Scorro-rocco off here and to be honest the aren't great, partly my fault i must amit, i trusted him a little to much. Well 3 wheels are the same, and one is different :-( cheers, plus a few issues with the bolt holes (hence having to wait for new bolts)

So some pics

Looks much better with the 14's on, so now the old Fondmental alloys will be for sale, and hopefully a new decent set of alloys will be arriving.

Got lots more bits to do, but so little time

They look good... fill the arches nicely

Oh jesus, I did prefer them G60 style wheels, they looked so good

Funnny how wheels can change a whole car

I really liked them to, but the were rough, having been through two winters with no love. On the look out for a banded set for the winter, or might get mine done

Looking really good mark, usually love revolutions but i think i prefer the previous alloys lol.

Still wanna see something done with the derby

Cheers, been wanting the revo's for years but they are not staying due to the issues mentioned

I liked them too, but they don't fill the arches like I want, I just ain't low enough!! Plus they won't fit over the new brakes I have lined up for when I turbo it. They will be for sale soon if your interested

How did the panels turn out? Did the spraying turn out alright? Saw the in progress shots on the wing and it was looking good

Derby is gonna be started in a week or two :-) just need to sort out a few minor bits with the coupe...

Oh I thought they looked spot on.. I'm not one for the really low look though :-D

done lots of random things with the wing lol but haven't done anything to the door yet.

Just playing about still, until i know what i wanna do lol.

Well it depends, i came out to the car one day to find my 4 year old climbing in between the tyre and arch!!!

I am not a fan of stupidly low cars either, they have got to be drivable first, but with the 13's it almost looked like a stock car, cos the tyres were such a low profile the gap between the tyre and arch was so big. THink with 14's it is just right :-)

Sorry I thought you were talking about these revolutions not the 13's on the previous page.

Its these 14's that I think look really good! :)

Finally got my arse in gear and put some new lights and grill on her. Had these for a while, they were a little rough, so put the film on them to clean them up a bit.

So pics from my iPhone:

Not really sure on it tbh, don't know if it's the lights are too dark or just the whole shape... Shame really as I have another mint set, and someone owes me a set he has, hopefully will grow on me

I prefer it with the round lights really but those look way too dark!

i love the way saf's mk2 looks with the square lights but i think its because it looks standard, Dont really like the tinted squares ,

Gonna have to go with max on this one.

Well a while since i updated this....

Better pictures of the headlights

IMG_1567.jpg

IMG_1568.jpg

IMG_1569.jpg

IMG_1570.jpg

IMG_1571.jpg

Only reason i tinted them, was to cover up a chip on one of them, which it did and they work perfectly..... wasn't too sure on the look though, so had a rummage through my spares store and picked out a complete nearly mint chrome set up

IMG_1796.jpg

IMG_1797.jpg

Also got my english pressed plate on now :-)

Not sure which set up i prefer, out of the 4 different ones..... think i will be going for the single round set up, once i repair it.....

Also it became evident that the discs were warped (along with a nice set of fucked wheels, thanks to someone off here!!!)

So in one of the pictures above you will see some new discs and pads. Went for a set of standard discs with some uprated Tarrox discs, bit of a bargain really, Brembo 239mm vented discs to my door for only £32 next day!!! thank you brembo shop. Pic but we all know what discs look like

IMG_1573.jpg

These work really well, and have been much better than the previous set up of drilled and groved discs with radicam pads.

These also made it clear that the wheels were fucked as well. I really loved these wheels, spent a long time looking for them and think they really suited the car. Think at least three wheels are buckled and one wheel has a very slightly different design :-( rather annoyed as a purchased them as in good condition, too good to need a refurb, guess I trusted the guy too much..... I should have spotted the design though....

So it meant another dig into my spares, which turned up some new 14inch wheels, which i had refurbed by BJV, so pics

IMG_1798.jpg

Also in the photo's above, you can see a new pipercross air filter in the box, which was fitted. Really opens up the engine now. Think this is how most GT's should be. With the few engine mods, it has turned it into the slighly nippy engine that people talk about.

Although i don't think its quite fast enough, and having a G40 engine sitting in the derby in the background of these pics, means that i have started buying parts and removing that engine.

Had this for a while, sitting on the G40 engine, when i test fitted it for space on the derby....

IMG_1801.jpg

This is what arrived from Germany this morning for it :-)

d074b2eb.jpg

e3277c3b.jpg

Brand new, never been used, and i also just missed out on another one last night :-( may have came in handy for the derby in the long term.....

Well not much has happened to Tymmy for a while, as i have been busy driving and collecting parts for the Turbo conversion....

MOT came and went without a fuss and nothing much to report really, just a move back to the twin round headlights, and the square headlights are for sale :-( needs must, and for the future I didn't want to risk the headlights with being so rare, with the driving plan to be doing. Plus i will need to remove the slam pannel for the turbo.

However now i have a new daily, things will start to move on more quickly over the next few months

So more parts arrived today.... new wheels :-) everyone likes new wheels ;)

IMG_2137.jpg

Now i am not so sure on the Turbo conversion, and stick with the G-lader.... so the manifold and downpip might be for sale soon....

very interesting project man, I've never liked mk2's but this is great. hmmm inspiration...

Could you do me a massive favor and measure that mk2 inter cooler as I've been try to get the measurements for ages

Wicked build mate. Keep up the good work.

Thanks

Daryl

I will try and dig out the measurements at the weekend.... Should have them on computer as I was looking at getting a custom one made before finding this one.... If you are gonna go down that route, be warned I was getting basic prices of over £450!!!! And they couldn't guarantee it would fit without having one to copy, no matter how detailed the drawings....

I might be willing to sell the spare one I have picked up, for the right price...

Only just noticed this!

I must say I quite liked the smoked Derby front end. Made me think of this (if you squint a bit ):

Well not been working on this in a while, as getting bits ready for my other projects

So been working on the Derby this week:

http://www.clubpolo.co.uk/forum/index.php?showtopic=264283

So needed the engine for the derby and well this is what happened, as i started:

IMG_2534.jpg

IMG_2535.jpg

and this is how it stands now:

IMG_2574.jpg

IMG_2573.jpg

Just need to decide how far i want to go with the G engine i have waiting for it....

Well some progress on this, but not much, Derby and mk3 Polo have been taking my time up.

So bay left a state, as i just ripped the engine out for the Derby. As the hose pipe ban was approaching i decided to try and clean the bay up for later in the year when the PY engine will find its new home.

So before

An improvement, not perfect, but the bulk of the crap shifted

Now this is the bit i am impressed with, have a soft spot for the square headlamps and i already have a collection of them, as you might have seen. Now I managed to track down a NOS grill :-)

IMG_2880.jpg

IMG_2882.jpg

Only one storage mark on the crome, but i am not too bothered about that, as i might get rid of the crome anyway

IMG_2881.jpg

Think i might have the largest collection of square polo front ends around, so much so that i have ended up loosing a set of headlights :-)

It has been a long time since youve updated this but I'm glad to see things are moving on as i was enjoying watching the build. love how the bay came up, nothing quite as satisfying as stripping 23 yrs of grime before a new engine goes in (appart from driving it ! :-D )

Yes slowly working on this, Derby and daily taking proirty for now.

Derby is nearly on the road, then i will start purchasing parts and getting things done on this.

Ordering engine stand this weekend, might get a welder too as machine mart have decent discounts at the moment.

Looking at big order of parts come the end of May, hopefully subframe and bottom end parts for the G.

Had to order some new engine mounts off Phil, as i had used these the ones for this car on one of the others!!!

Working out a plan of action on this car now as to what needs to be done when and how. So many plans but so little time to so them :-( guess its the same for most people though

Well thought I would dig this up again as time moves on, still got her and plan to get back on the road next year amongst my other projects, so hopefully will start working on soon.

Got a specialist company working on some new suspension for her in the next few months now, so should help with the fast road view I have with the car now

Hopefully progress in the new year will be much improved!!!
