Well I somehow picked up a nasty ding in my door in a supermarket car park last week :(

The pics below show it up pretty well!

Oh well, I'm trying not to be too precious about this car as it was bought to be used - besides the wheels look like they've come out of a canal...

I'll get a few more photos of the car over the weekend as I'm off to Players at Goodwood tomorrow and Bromley Pageant on Sunday.

Verycool, Nice method of narrowing the beam too

oh wow!

Thats fucking immense!

How do you keep making this better man, hero!

Wheels look really smart, as does the car.

AAAAAAHHHHH ITS PERFECT

sits pretty good on those!!

Looking good! I wonder how many more narrowed beams we'll see on here over the next few months :)

Thanks for all the nice replies, I'm pretty chuffed with the car :)

Got some HUGE spigot rings today! They're 70mm to 57.1mm. I guess I don't really need them, but they make it much easier to put the wheels on if nothing else.

Also found a lovely pic on Facebook from my buddy Darren:

Since they've already been painted in the past, this weekend I'll be giving the wheels a ghetto refurb using some paint and then once I've saved a little money I'll be getting them polished/sandblasted/chromed or something. Update to come once I've made them look a little more presentable.

Looks amazing mate, great job!

FUCK OFF

Looks spot on!

Yeah so the bottom-of-a-canal look those wheels were sporting was a bit too ghetto even for me. I'm going to shotblast them when I can afford it, but that's not an option right now.

In the meantime I thought I'd at least make them look a bit more presentable, so I had a go at that this weekend.

First of all (obviously) I had to take the wheels off and put the standard ones on. This made me do a LOL.

Must remember to chuck a 20mm spacer and some long bolts in with my spare

So usually when I do a quick ghetto refurb on a set of wheels I start with a Scotchpad.

This time was different.

They're pretty bad! In fact they were so bad that I gave up trying to sand the paint down. I'd already decided to get them shotblasted and this is just to tide me over until I can afford to chuck some cash at them. Fuck it this'll do right? Oh well at least the colour I'm painting them won't show up any imperfections. Right?

Gotta say I've been wanting to try this stuff properly for ages, I'd sprayed some on a few bits and bobs which came out really well but this was the first time I got to use quite a bit of it. It really shows up all the blemishes if you look close, but from a distance they look amazing!

^ Err yeah this was only after one thin coat but you can see what I mean!

Anyway I highly recommend this paint, it is as close to chrome in a can as I've ever seen. The mobile phone pictures don't really do it much justice.

I did the same LOL when I fitted 'normal' wheels to my narrowed beam

That chrome paint is amazing! Where can I get some?

Edit: hold on. Is that Montana that I can make out?

Okay, first off I'll admit that I'm slightly disappointed to find out that someone else has a narrowed rear axle

The paint is Montana Black Silverchrome. :-)

Sorry to disappoint you dude  I didn't mean to take your much loved mod away from you. I just remember having the exact same reaction when I replaced my 10J splits with 6J winter wheels with the narrowed beam.

Mine was on a mk1 Golf though so you might well be one of very few to have done it to a polo ;) Dunno about yours but mine crabbed like fuck until I corrected it with camber/toe shims

Your polo looks awesome regardless of whether or not someone has done it before 8-) It's no easy feat narrowing a beam so you and your mate should be proud :-)

Thanks for the info on the paint  Think I'll do my split centres in that stuff

Ah well I knew it'd been done on a Golf so that makes me feel much better! I thought you had one on a Polo. Mine doesn't crab at all so I guess I took it to the right guy ;)

Thanks for the compliments and happy rattlecanning :)

Strongest argument i've ever seen for staggered fitment on a fwd car. 8-)

Sweet Motor, nice one 8-)

I noticed you got some raicam pads earlier in the thread. Have you found a Raicam supplier/stockist? Reason I ask is that I have the raicam part number of the 256mm pads and my current ones are getting to the limit :-(

Sorry Bud, I got them from a mate who had them lying around, he made me pay a bit of a premium for them but I figured I'd give them a go. I have no idea where to get any more of them. I'd just get some Ferodos if i were you, they're just as good - or I can sell you mine for err £200?

Edited by EmDee

Ah oh well.

I wouldn't pay scene tax for a set of Raicams; thats the whole point, budget but with the performance of ferodos!
