No he got the loan GTI and loved it (I think, may have just been being polite! ) Also time was of an essence in your case Mark, you wanted a reshell of your mk3 into the mk2, sharpish, so sharpish it was done!

Same here really, the struts were a 20 minute makeover with the heatgun drying the pain between coats Wouldn't have had time to do the full suspension rebuild and exhaust/manifold in a day otherwise. :-)

What can I say?

First of all, I did feed the fish in the loan car, although it was on fumes when I got it and I drove it all day so it's only a little higher lol

although someone test drove it while i was there so I should just say i filled it up and they used it all

As for the work done to the car, well to say I'm happy is an understatement.

When I first saw the exhaust I was a bit skeptical, it's a little more in-your-face than I was expecting, but it's really grown on me and now I cant stop looking at it. It's like Rolo the Polo has a boner (ever watch The Cleveland Show)? The other good thing is that it's not that loud

As for the suspension, it's perfect. Not stupidly low but handles like a go kart and takes speedbumps and potholes okayish.

Very happy as I said. Phil's work, attitude and whole operation really impressed me, he really knows what he's doing and I'd recommend him to anyone. Although the Golf was a bit on the gash side it made me grin like Jack Nicholson so all is forgiven

Gone a bit quiet this week, been hard at work. Spent money on the worst thing to spend money on - a tax disc. At least with petrol you get to burn it! Hey ho, to make me feel better about it I acquired a new holder for it (it's the little things)...

Actually the Pheonix Gold amp I hooked up to my 6x9s blew them up in about 5 minutes! So I've decided to plug it into the shat old JBL and blow that up instead. Luckily the 6x9s have been replaced by Kicker under warranty so I'll have those in and running directly off the head unit sometime next week.

I always said I wouldn't do a big stereo again. I kind of grew out of it. But since my new zorst is proper fruity on the motorway I thought I should get something to drown it out. It's been very cheap (mostly crap I had lying around) and it won't add too much weight so screw it!

Since the car has been dropped 60/40, the standard 13's have been residing in the arches, but since there seemed to be a fair amount of room in the back ones I thought I'd go all hotrod and chuck the 15s in there to see if they rub.

No rubbage at all yet! I'll need to get the front arches rolled before i do the other two though.

And for those of you with eagle eyes, yes the directional tyres are deliberately on backwards, I was just seeing who is paying attention.

The boss was attached to the wheel when I got it, paid a tenner for it. Not sure where you can get one tbh. The bits I got separately were the centre cap for it and the plastic boss cover.

I'm sure you'll come up with something on ebay eventually?

hello mate! I've seen quite a few folks from SCN on here actually.

Yeah I sold the leon because of the running cost really, me and the missus are trying to get a mortgage. The miles were starting to rack up and the value was going south so I thought I should do it before I lose too much money on it. Thing is, I'm enjoying the polo more. All my mates think I'm mad going from a 260 odd bhp LCR with all the bells and whistles to an old shed! The only thing I miss is the brakes - although 165mph on the autobahn was fun too, but I can do 100 in the polo and it feels like 180!

It feels a lot quicker, but I did the manifold and suspension at the same time so it's hard to say, the soundtrack makes it feel fast and there's probably some placebo going on too.

Speaking of soundtracks I sorted my motorway-exhaust-drowner-outer today

Turned out the Pheonix Gold amp was kaput, the reason why it blew up the 6x9s

I got some new 6x9s from kicker (under warranty) and dug out an old rockford amp I had lying around. Lucky I never throw anything away, I nearly sold it to a mate for £20 last month! Anyway, I bought a 10" sub enclosure and cut a hole for a 12 in it so that it doesnt take up too much space.

Considering I paid next to nothing for this install (about £100) I'm well impressed, the junk that I had lying about turned up trumps.

Off to Phil's tomorrow to fit a new steering rack, mine is properly rattling now, maybe sort a Weber sometime soon too as my Pierburg is gash. Also planning on rolling the arches next week if I ever get round to it. Not enough hours in the day.

Phil replaced the carb with another Pierburg which he had lying around, but through no fault of his it is now causing problems too. he offered to fix it (he is the best and has been a great help to me recently) but I've decided Pierburgs are not for me. I hate them long time.

Since I can't afford bike carbs I've decided I'm getting a single Weber fitted on Friday.

Anyone got any feedback on carbs? The RAC bloke said that Pierburgs are awesome, but a little over complicated - he said he'd never found one he couldn't fix until he saw mine - turns out he owns 3 polos lol - anyway I don't believe him I think they're gash... discuss...

haha yeah that'll be the one then, I thought it was an auto choke issue, maybe I can just swap the spring with my old one then - I wasn't sure about which bits to swap.

Actually I was chatting to someone last night about a 1.4 bottom end with a GT head on bike carbs. Allegedly it has done 24k miles so I might not have to worry about the pierburg much longer if that works out. It all depends on whether my mate wants to drop my 1.3 in his golf and where we're going to carry out the lump exchange!

i might just get the weber anyway and then he'll have something nice in his golf that actually runs properly.

I'm taking my mk2 on the nurburgring in september and heard they test the exhaust sometimes to make sure its not too loud (over 95dslbs) <(<sp). so am abit worried abit that.

Right so Friday saw me down at Southern Carbs where they had a nice new Weber waiting for me. I had them install it and set it up for me mainly because of the manual choke installation but also because I know f all about carbs...

The choke was installed brilliantly - you can't tell it's not factory, I am really pleased with the whole thing. The car runs fantastically and feels quite a bit quicker which surprised me tbh as I wasn't expecting a big gain.

So this morning I decided to pop on my new chrome rocker cover. I bought a gasket from Egay and was eager to get it on since my engine bay is tainted by the original (rusty) old one on there.

First of all, I took off the old cam cover to find that the fleabay gasket I had was completely wrong. Nice.

After fitting the new cover over the old gasket I was nearly done. I was just tightening up the last bolt and POP

Yes, I snapped the bolt off in the head. Happy days. I'm now sitting in front of the PC waiting for the monaco GP to come on since I don't want to drive the bloody car with a huge hole in the rocker cover.
