Okay i've been neglecting this a bit lately. After Knebworth i managed to take some pics of the old girl so I thought I'd whore them out in here for your consumption:

So about 2 weeks ago, after I had the arches done I reversed off my parents driveway and as I was giving it a sweep I noticed a small puddle. Just as I feared, it was petrol. Anyone who has ever had a mk2 or knows about them can confirm that the tank and the tank feed pipe rot badly. I did check this when I bought the car and I thought there was a while left in it (wouldnt have been a deal breaker anyway) but there is a small leak right by the join.

I didn't get a shot of the leak itself but you get the idea.

So because PhilJ (Jackson Tuning) is a complete legend I knew he could do the job. I didn't fancy changing a petrol tank on my own in the street lol I would probably blow up the car.

Anyway I got Phil to order the tank and popped down there. While I had him working on it and ordering parts I got a pair of CV joints and boots too since they need doing.

Shame that the special folk at euro car parts sent him the wrong tank and good job to Phil & co for checking before starting work!

I went back on Monday and he had the right one in so he took the old one out

So here is the culprit, you can see the extent of the rot in this pic. To be honest it wasn't that bad, but it wasnt in a place that could be patched up easily and was leaking badly by the time the new tank came in.

anyway here's the RIGHT new tank (looks the same as the wrong one to me)

and here is proof of it fitted (you can see some of the arch rollage in this shot too).

Dont have any pics of the CVs and boots, but they made more of a difference than I thought, she drives quite a bit better, not just when on lock but just over bumps there's less rattleage.

So in other news, today I finally recieved my spacers after waiting nearly 20 days!

and another ebay win showed up at the same time (only waited 1 day for these though)!

yeah baby, retro 70's Lucas fogs with covers. not sure how they'll look on the car i might have to trial fit them before I drill any holes in the bumper as it was a bit of an impulse buy :-D

Should get the spacers on this evening and I'll take a few pics.

Spacers had to come off in the end, when I actually tried driving it I found out the extended bolts were a bit too extended and the rear wheels didn't turn lol

Hence me missing the Purley Tesco NoRice convoy, but then somehow finding it by accident later haha.

i should be going prept, hopefully.

i had the same problem when i put my ultralites on, got the 14's g60 looka likes on atm though.

i wouldnt change a thing on yours though, looks spot on.

I wanna get a K&N, one of the shiny ones that replace the whole filter assembly, maybe also inlet mani (dehedgeghogged) like previous page on this thread. After that it's a cam, porting and polishing, dual/bike carbs or I could just be lazy and stick a G40 lump in. it all depends on monies. Either way from here on out it's engine mods, got her looking okay.

So i wasn't sure about my retro Lucas fogs I won on the bay, I offered one up to the front of the car to see if it looked okay or if they were going to be gash.

TBH I was quite pleased, I think they're alright. Since I decided to keep them, I gave them a nice polishing yesterday and they came up really nice.

Does anyone on here know where I can get some wheel bolts that are 20mm longer than standard?

As I was saying a few posts ago, the ones i got with the spacers are too long so the rear wheels dont turn with the spacers on, I dont really have the right tools to cut them shorter - at least not without some finger removal, I dont fancy dremeling them lol

What would you lot do? I want to try cutting them tbh i hate the idea of spending money on wheel bolts.

Cutting the bolts is a good plan but I'm not sure how, the only tool I've got that might do it is a dremel! What I need is an 8 bolt clampy thing so i can do them all at once and get a cheap angle grinder.

i contacted mountney before i went away, said they dont make 70mm boss kits for the mk2 polo anymore. they only do the 'M-range' the more modern style steering wheels.

Fog lights should be hooked up this week too, still waiting for the switch.

Air filter housing was looking a bit tatty, touch of surface rust and some chipping so I decided to give it a bit of a refurb.

Now I'm watching paint dry (Spain V Chile).

Not much else to report to be honest, got a new central dash part on it's way to me which has the luxurious addition of a cigarette lighter (I know, I'm a pampered whore lol), I've quit smoking fags but can't charge my phone doh. Should also have the foglights on and wired up sometime this week. Oh and a new sticker sitting in the back window, although I'm not sure how long it'll last it's a bit bright.
