EmDee's Parade Coupe

5 days since an update, i'm really slacking. Not a whole lot to report to be honest, a bit like the last update, but it is the little things that make the difference and hopefully the things that people with similar cars are interested in.

When I gave the old girl a good wash on Sunday I realised that the plastic trim was fading again. I hate using that back to black wax stuff, it really is horrible. It only lasts a month or so and turns your hands, clothes and the surrounding paint black too. Anyway, i did a bit of research and found out about Gtechniq C4, it's really expensive and in a really small bottle, but apparently it lasts for two years! I only bought it yesterday afternoon and it was at the door this morning, top service!

Cant wait to put that stuff on!

Also, I picked up some new Bosch wipers - actually difficult to find non-flat blade ones! I needed the old school traditional look of course ;) Anyway, they're on and work GREAT

And then yesterday morning I received my new dashboard panel with fangled new cigarette lighter! oh the luxury! i will soon be able to charge my mobile phone like the 21st century spoiled electronic consumer whore that I am

Anyway, getting there...

Have you got the contact details on the bloke who did your arches??

Looks like he did a good job, are you pleased with them?

Thanks mate, yeah I'm pleased with the arches but I'm a bit skeptical so I think I will be removing the wheels and giving the inside of each one a good coating of rust prevention goop before the winter. i saw him do it, but I just dont feel safe unless I do it myself. The company are called arch enemy, he did a great job but just like any business I have heard one or two horror stories. I think so long as you have realistic expectations and you are prepared to take a risk you wont have any problems.

Thanks for that, which was why i was after they guy who did yours, as i believe your not too far from me, do you have the blokes name who actually did yours? Didn't Phil J use the same bloke?

Plans are to clean the arches properly before and after then make sure its protected well

Ideally i want mine rolled and flared a little, but that will have to wait till next winter when the car is off the road for a full respray and complete rebuild :-)

  • Author

yes mate, same guy has done plenty of Phil's rolling. His name was Paul I think, theres a picture of his arms in this thread somewhere lol

i think anywhere near south London you'll get him, I'm near Croydon and Phil's near Redhill

edit - just noticed you're in Reigate, should be him

I'll be there with my tent! Are you convoying down on Friday? Looks like the convoy will be huge, I'll be joining it at fleet.

yeah Prept vs Players is at brands too, its on the 28th I think (wednesday just like prept), it's gonna be huge.

You, Sir have impeccable taste.

Thank you.

In terms of updates I dont have much, but I've been doing one or two minor things that I'm quite proud of. Got the old air filter housing in the bay all painted up and looking smart but I didnt get any pics. Did however get a pic of the ciggy lighter dashboard bit thingy I bought, well it was a bit tatty but i got the trusty autosol out and gave it a bit of steel wool:

All I need to do is pop the fecker in and wire her up. While I'm doing that I'll hook those foglights up too. I managed to get them sorted out with a bit of yellow tinting film too:

I think they look alright, I just need to get my act together and get this shit on the car! I hope to have it all on before Prept vs Players on Wednesday but it might be a bit of a pain, I hate wiring :(

Hopefully have time to use some of that Gtechniq C4 over the weekend too, I've really been slacking.

Picked up a new bonnet the other day after spotting it on eBay for 99p. I didnt need or want one, but after a few (dozen) beers it seemed like a great idea. It is slightly rusty and was a bit scratched and dinged, so when i got home I started spraying it four different colours and have been sanding it down and just basically turning it into an abstract work of art. I know it doesn't suit the style of my car, but it was pretty much free (even the paint) and it's keeping me out of trouble. I might never put it on, or I might use it at a show one day, I dont know. It'll probably end up covered in stickers and I might pop a few bullet holes in it for cooling ;)

Anyway, on to more serious matters.

New plates:

DSC_0080.jpg

aaaaaw yeah

I love them long time, they look sweet on the car.

Should hopefully get some more progress this week before:

gatheringtickets.jpg

cant wait, should get messy

sweet man, you got the plates!

retro gathering should be very messy, see you friday

Where did you get the plates from? I've been after a set of '70s style plates for years, but the cheapest i can find is £50 a pair!

I have a personalised registration and still can't justify it!

eerrrr yeah that's about right...

i can't really afford it either, but now that they're on I'm glad I did it.

[justification]

I suppose if you think about it, you're gonna spend £40 on dubmeister pressed plates, so it's only a tenner more but they look way better and are not played out.

[/justification]

I spent £15 on '80s plastic plates. I'll find justification somehow - probably when i see your tailgate with plate in place..

I'm new on the polo scene emdee and dont know that much about them but this lil baby you got hold off looks pretty much like a minter to me mate well done for finding it I'm enviuos

look forward to the thread as she takes shape keep up the good work

Well yesterday my clutch started slipping, so since I'm off to RR Gathering tomorrow I thought I should get looking for someone who can fit me in sharpish!

As usual, Phil came to the rescue. I went down there this morning and he had this sitting there waiting for me

clutch.jpg

Once that was in (only took about 2 hours), I was pretty chuffed and after chatting to Phil he was having his bad influence on me as usual. Before I could go he had given me some new wheels to try on (he's not getting them back).

Compos.jpg

I then managed to get the cigarette lighter in the car AT LAST so that I can charge my phone this weekend Hoo-f'kin-raay.

So here she is sitting outside all ready to go with the newly polished roof rack on:

rackfurb.jpg

And I'm not joking about Phil not getting his wheels back, we have come to an agreement and he has kept my G60s and given me the clutch in exchange  She drives really nicely on the 14's, I'm dead chuffed.

They look good, but i prefered G60s on it imo. Looks like you've got the better deal there though!

  • Author

haha yeah I might have slipped him a little money ;)

everyone preferred the G60s but I'm happy with them, they're much lighter and I think they'll look better if I give them a bit of a polish ;)

well i actually prefer them! lil th monos are they? really suit the car imo!

i love this thread, giving me ideas for my coupe, but yours is much more mint than mine!

Thanks, yes they're THs, glad you like em :)

Since I'm just back from RR Gathering I might as well whore out all the great pics I've got - be rude not to.

I'm chuffed to bits with these and need to say thanks to Tony for taking them - TOP bloke :D

Managed to come 3rd in class (less than 1500cc NA) in the track attack - after two blokes driving the same Mini Cooper 1330 historic racing car, so might as well be second - I'm pretty stoked about that :)
