New Compomotive centre caps came yesterday, they make the wheels look much better and the car looks more "finished" with them on. I didn't realise how much the lack of centre caps was really bugging me.

I'll try to get some better shots of the car with them on over the next week or so.

Looking really good. Good to see the mods being used properly!!!

Wheels look great, wish i had got them off Phil now :-( think they would suit a red mk2 better ;)

TBH I completely forgot Phil had these, otherwise i would have nabbed them of him, when it turned out my Revo's were shit....

If you are ever thinking of selling these, let me know please

wow just realised how out of date this thread is, it's been a while!

I'll attempt to give 3-4 months of updates at once, most of it is boring stuff so it should be like one good update instead of a load of shitty ones.

In errrr October? my NEW Powerflex bushes looked like this:

DSC_0163.jpg

Nice eh? Apparently the cuff around the edge is not used on other makes of bushes so even though Powerflex offered me new ones I thought the same thing would happen again so I got some different ones. No pics of those I'm afraid but they're not very pretty anyway. Big thanks to PhilJ for finding me some decent bushes and even fitting them for me.

The next thing I did was finally after months of peer pressure sort out the pinstriping - which looked like this:

DSC_0181.jpg

and now looks like this:

nov1.jpg

Since I had been using my stock alloys during the winter I decided to give the centre caps a bit of a refurb. As you can see they needed it!

centre-caps.jpg

This is them after some nitromors, some scrubbing and some primer:

centre-caps-primer.jpg

I dont have a finished pic of them after the silver, the clear coat and on the car.

So next I bought a new spoiler off ebay:

snow4.jpg

Which made this happen:

then last week I loaded the compos on my roofrack and set off

rufurb-trip.jpg

And i made the return trip today with the car looking a bit better.

Well chuffed with how they turned out - I'll try and get some pics with the rack off and after a bit of a wash.

Blimey...

Looks amazing.

Very tidy mate ;)

Looking good as always.... Compo's looking very good, wish i got these off Phil now :-(

What happened to those bushes? and which ones were they? the TCA? What did you replace them with?

<3 this so much. One of my earliest memories is being in my mum's helios blue mk2 parade 8-). If you ever want to sell this, give me a shout! I'd kill to have this on my driveway :D

  • Author

thanks for all the kind comments, glad you guys like the wheels.

dekerf, yes they were the TCA ones, i have no idea what kind phil replaced them with (he couldn't find the superpro ones he was gonna use) other than they were black, kind of rounded off looking and really hard compound!

I've lost track of all the people wanting to buy this tez but you've got like 5th or 6th refusal!

What size A539's are they?

You have got me looking for some TH's now.. but whats worse is, that Compomotive are about 15-20 mins away from me in Wolverhampton city center haha!

185/50/14s mate, not sure if Compo still make 6J 14 et35s anymore though, at least they're not on their website - may have to be special order?

So I thought I'd give this a little update since I gave the car a wash on Thursday before heading out to the 8ball Diner for the RR East meet.

Yes, that's right, I washed the car. Well not me, some foreign folks at the car wash. Definitely worthy of an update.

I've also put the old square AA badge on and fitted a new headunit which the missus got me for my birthday (very generous of her). It's an Alpine and you can put USB sticks in it, brilliant when you drive a car with a not-so-smooth ride since it doesn't skip. I don't want to sound like a tart but the green fascia matches the rest of the interior too.

In addition to this I decided to paint the writing on my tyres white. Bit of a marmite decision probably but I think it looks cool because I'm a big child.

So I took some pictures today, here's how she looks:

So next up I'm ordering some new Parade stickers because I'm missing the one off the passenger side and I'm toying with the idea of getting a mate of mine to give it a proper detailing. We will see how far the funds stretch. I also need to replace the rubber seal on the bottom of the carb as it's perished.

amazing! wish compomotive still sold these in this size - no fair!

Minor update from two weeks ago:

My carb flange (hehe) gasket was completely shot and was letting air in quite badly. I thought it was going to be a 30 min job but was proven wrong on several counts. I had a brand new part but for some reason there were bolts needing cut down, original parts that had been bonded together and just the general PITA that is access to the nuts (hehe) under the inlet manifold. Anyway, got this done after a while but since my phone went dead I only have a pic of the old one next to the new one. You cant really tell how bad the old one was from the pic. It was poo.

carb-gasket.jpg

Once that was done I managed to fix an exhaust rattle - it was getting pretty bad so that was nice to sort.

Picked up a custom fabbed brace bar which just fits next to the ARB blocks (not a great pic and the underside of my car looks a bit tatty but you get the idea).

brace-bar.jpg

Also got a new cam cover, my standard one needs sandblasting and powdercoating and the chrome one I picked up has rusted in spots during the winter so for the price of a refurb on either one I figure I'd pick up a new (old) aluminium one. [/justification]

moar pics to follow 8-)

Any progress bud?

Any progress bud?

err yeah a little bit actually.

Failed to start a while ago after I'd been in Birmingham for a week - it was a dead battery. It looked like the battery in there was the original one, but I seriously doubt it after 21 years, the previous owner (Audrey) must have picked one up from the dealership. Anyway I managed to bump start her on my own (legend I know) and headed down to Halfrauds (trade card FTMFW).

So I was a bit skeptical about this because the battery tray on these is a known rust hotspot and after owning it for a year I'd still never made time to look under the battery (pathetic effort). Even if the rest of the car is solid there is a bloody good chance it's rotten under the battery.

DSC_0428.jpg

Well happy when I saw this! Not even any surface rot, just a bit of random organic mank, pine needles, dirt and leaves etc. Big relief.

Here's my new Bosch badboy:

DSC_0429.jpg

I thought I could justify posting this because it was expensive (£65) and I'm well chuffed about my battery tray. ;D

I've also recently picked up a rather nice rocker cover from a local Polo chum. It was a bit shoddy to begin with but patience and paint seems to have sorted that.

before:

The end result:

rockerbling.jpg

The phone pictures aren't great but you get the idea. I will get some of it in situ one it's fitted but I'm going to polish it a bit more before it goes on.

Chuffed, thanks to Rich for selling the rocker cover and also my mate Darren who helped me polish it, he is the polishing king and my feeble effort was truly shown up by his patience and bottomless polishing resources!

Actually I'm not sure if anyone reading this can help but I'm after a part number for a rocker cover bolt that has some sort of built in breather facility - not sure if anyone knows what I'm on about? Worth a try :)

More to come soon with the long awaited replacement of my ghetto air feed!

teaser:

rocker cover looks the tits mate.

Nice example makes me wanna get one :D keep the the good work

Much love for this, looks absolutely spot on.

Result on the battery tray, and the rocker looks awesome.

Rob.
