hhhmm- now thats a wierd one. Thing is unless the box was a custom job- It will leak regardless. even with sealant round all th inner joins, the front face of the box where the sub meets the box normally has such a large play in it that when you put the sub in without screwing it down, you can still move it!  

What you have to remember is that every sub has a different "lip" on the under side top edge of the basket, some will join to an off the shelf box quite well- some wont!

Have you tried building a custom box of your own?

EDIT: what spec was the box when ported? tuning? box volume?

first 2 sealed boxes were "off the shelf, on the back off the sub theres grip grooves things so after it wouldnt seal with carpet i tried cutting the carpet away and i bought a rubber sheet and made a gasket which should have done the trick and didnt, next i tried a silicone layer no luck

inside of boxes was varnished and sealed and i tried talc and know the box was fine, it was ok with the old sub

ported was around 1.5cuft i think tuned to low 30's

actualy i did make a custom sealed and that didnt work, forgot we made it round a mates

its a weave cone remember not solid or pressed

put it this way i put my vacuum on in the terminal section and sealed it and the cone barely moved and it sucked a tissue onto the cone no worries

Most of the brands in that list have some good stuff and some bad stuff

Personally I think the list is spot on for quality issues, ok its not perfect if your talking cash but when you bring money into it, it gets much more complicated

I also agree Sony is shit (having tried numerous setups myself with lots of different manufacturers) along with JVC.

JLs lower end stuff I dont think is very good but no one can convince me that a 13w7 is beaten by much stuff, RE XXX18 is a mother as well

target are an unknown brand over here but do some nice gear, the UK distro for target has pulled his finger out and started doing some work so you may be seeing more of then

I think the list is subjective , to opions etc , and what you have to bear in mind that if you where to put a good quailty sub in a wrong sise box ( ported or other wise ) it will sound crap

you could get a crap sub sub to out perform a good one if the box sise for good sub was way off

What you should do is do a poll with all the maunfactures in it and get the forum to vote , you might then get an idea of what people think is good bad etc

I personally favor the following alpine ( head unit and a good all round brand )

speakers and amps i use orion or ppi , but as we all know , jl , pg , dls , genersis etc are all good ...........

I think it,s all about your view on things and just remember all our ears are not the same , to quote some one above you might think you have a good system , but their are a lot better out that you have not heard ....

Hey everyone, I think you forgot one of the best makes of sound systems available (Crossfire), i know they are only US but imported and installed in a car that is ultimate satisfaction.

Also it would be quite useful if you were to do a good list for specific products, like Alpine are pretty good at headunits and speakers but they suck at amps and subwoofers

and by the way 6x9s suck

yeah crossfire is a weird one..as far as i am aware they are a very well respected brand in the US but have never really took off over here - probably mainly due to the lack of avaialbility!

I do believe that Eton should be added to the A list. Their equipment is hand made in Germany, and the company started out by designing, patenting, and making the Hexacone technology for the Diamond Audio HEX series.

Component prices range from £130-£800, definately a worthy brand.

Audiobahn kit is terrible. Its akin to a awesome looking sports car with a 1.1litre engine in it.
