... and the Ugly

used to run some off these in my g/f car vrx 6x9 and 2x 8" subs and for cheeper end sheakers and subs they was inpressive compared to some more expence and better know brands

but thats just my view

I worked with ICE for 18 months, and one thing that really made a difference was application. We'd get kids come in and buy some JBL 6.5" speakers for their front doors, run them directly off the head unit, they sound good and they leave happy.

However someone spending £180 on a set of Rockford Fosgates would come back saying they're shit. However if the owner of the Rockfords had bothered to actually amp the speakers rather than running them direct from the headunit he would have been far more impressed.

What I'm trying to say is, certain manufacturers gear only responds well once its been amped, whereas some of the more budget brands will produce good sound just running off the headunit.

I couldnt agree more with the Sony comments, We were taking back 80% of the Sony headunits we sold at one point all faulty!

its called efficency.. some cheapo vibe/jbl/sony..etc speakers hav mid 80db efficency rating meaning they get loud off of little power ie: a head unit. stuff with 90+db rating will need more power to get them singing :)

wrong way around you donut

and its nothing to do with cheap brands  some of the most expensive car audio can be very efficient or have a low efficiency rating

something with a 80db efficiency will need more power than something with a 90db rating

but it changes when you add more power

a XXX is low 80's but is over come with a fair bit of power, remember there usually measured @1w@1m or 2.xxv.

now it doesnt sound much but if you imagine i sell a mid driver thats 99 at 1w@1m and on paper compared to a 90db mids you would need 8 (i think)of the 90db mids to produce the same spl or 16 drivers if there 87db  although once you add more power this will go down but will still be alot louder with the same power, but they will sit on 150wrms each so they are seriously loud

there are other factors like moving mass, a xxx has a heavy moving mass so 1w isnt going to tickle it

and box size

i could go on and on and on and on but you get the idea :-D

i have issues with your list

jl should be in B

as should anything to do with Directed, ADS,VIPER ect

jvc and jbl should be in the A list, and magnet actualy, ok there not up to zapco standards but the price reflects that and they are exelent value for money

hifonics should be in B and the new crunch lines should also be in B

You obviously know NOTHING. JL is one of the best quality brands out there.

I've got a 300wrms amp from them, budget like, but seems decent for the money..

i like them.

they sound good

reasonable priced

the subs are the same..

Stealth is one for the Bad List, £30 amps FTL.

Also dont think Hifonics deserve A list status as they're 'budget' stuff is utter shit.

Fi is one for the A-list aswel, not that big over here i dont think, but the vids of installs etc from the States.. :D
