me and a mate picked this car up about a year ago with every intention of doing some thing with it, since then it's sat on his back garden being used as a climbing frame by his staffy. it's a 1.3 spi with a 40mm lowering kit, flared rear arches, stripped out interior, golf GTI front seats, GT clocks and steering wheel, clear indicators and a fucked up bonnet.

its safe to say the future wasn't looking too bright for the poor forgotten polo, until fate reared it's ugly head a couple of weeks ago and this fell in to my lap for free

i'm sure you can guess where this is heading, so far i've started disconnecting every thing from the old engine and if i can get hold of an engine hoist and the weather is ok i'll rip that out tomorrow after work, progress so far

the plan is to use the 16v injection on it rather than going the bike carb route just because i already have every thing here so it'll be a lot cheaper. i need to chop a few coils of the springs and i'll be making an exhaust system for it once the engine is in, probably stick my AZEV's on it if i can find some part warns for them and i'll have to upgrade some of the braking system probably with mk2 GTI parts, wouldn't mind a badgless grill and a new bonnet if some cross my path.

I'm doing the same conversion (original injection). If you need to know which wires to strip off from the fusebox gimme a shout, I've taken out about 200 wires so far lol

Narrow_Lane, i think it might be a little too late for that mate, i've already stripped all the wires i 'thought' i didn't need, although if you could let me know which wires you need and i can see how many of them i have given away

i still have the full engine loom, it was only the interior loom i got rid of only keeping the wires going to the ignition, alarm, imobilizor and transponder box and ring. i'm hoping i can remove the alarm from the loom because i didn't get a fob for it

Yea you can remove the alarm from the loom its not too hard just trace the wires and find where they're split and resolder them. I've left pretty much the same as what you've left then, with the exception of the 16v instrument panel plug - some of those wires come through as a signal from the ECU so I left those in place!

A new bonnet , some orange idies , a grille and them wheels and it will be flipping awsome.

theres a few people going the injection route now, if i'm gonna be the first i'd really need to get my finger out lol. not fussed if i'm the first or not tho tbh, i'm just doing it for a bit of fun and as i had most of the bits to do it it would be rude not too really

john what do you want for the bumper mate? one thing i had contemplated for a little further down the line was maybe smoothing the bumpers and a few other bits and bob's, bad boy bonnet, smoke all the lights, indy's, windows and paint it canary yellow... 90's flex FTW

and the wheels are 15" mate

Narrow_Lane, i did notice those wires to the clocks i was just hoping that they were to give readings to the clocks about mpg or different temps (like with the MFA on the golf gti clocks, not sure if 16vs have any thing like this?).

the original paint is really faded but should come up nice with a good t-cut, it did last time any way

you need the clocks for the timing or something stupid,

and its been done before guy, a lad called polo13 from newcastle way, red mk3 with transformers stickers under the indicators. theres a lil how to on polo3

his car was smart, although the alternator had a habit of shredding the belt off the chassis leg every time it went round a bend... I'm sure he sorted it though!

aye give the arb mount a tickle there the belt hits it, (need a couple of goes of putting it in and out again to get the right amount of clearance, and you grind the right place), lick of paint and jobs a good un.

hes been well quiet of late, not seen him post in years, him and pinches were gonna do a guide, as id wanted to do it when he first came about, but decided to go down the carb routes, as i couldnt be arsed trying to fanny about with wiring, and carbs are so simple its untrue.

but an full oem install would be lovely, the mk4 dash is hanging but as is the mk3, so maybe a full retrofit might be in order, or go rob keirons tt dash guy and get it in there - cable tied dash ftw

are you sure about that safe? i know it could be different on the 16v set up but there's a lad on here running the 1.6 8v (iirc) from the mk4 in a mk3 using the mk4 fueling system and he said nothing about having to use the clocks

pretty sure theres some reason you need the clocks bitch tits, whether you just leave them cnnected in the glovebox or summat, i think you might be able to strip it down to the wirign you need, but I'm sure theres some sort of vw voodoo, like the timing on the GT engines, rev twice, stick your cock in the fag lighter bit and say alakazam
