thanks to a gay exhaust and some stubborn drive shaft bolts i a had really slow start today, luckily for me a had an angle grinder at hand lol, so fast forward a bit and things get moving.

old engine coming out

the only problem i came across today was the drivers side engine mount fouling cam belt cover, a bit of chopping and bending and jobs a good un

i only had the use of the engine hoist for today so i haven't modified the mount yet, i can do that any time now the engine is in with just the use of a jack so that's a job for another day.

i used the mk4 clutch and starter, it seems this was an earlier mk4 with the same size clutch spline thing so fitted straight on it seems.

using the mk4 loom, then mk3 through to dash?

cheers mate, yeah the mk3 mount bolts straight on to the mk3 block but only 2 of the 3 holes on the mount line up. to use the 3rd hole you need to get a thick piece of metal and drill 2 holes in it so you bolt one end up to the engine mount and the other to an unused hole further down the block, i'll be doing this soon so i'll get plent of photos.

as for the wiring i'm going to be running every thing that i can off the mk3 fuse box and then just run the absolute minimum needed to run the engine off the mk4 fuse box with the immobilizer, transponder ect all strapped up under the dash. i was thinking the easiest way would be to splice the power wires for the 2 fuse boxes together so they are piggy backing off each other and both working off the mk3 ignition.

i've spent a bit of time today chopping the mk4 engine loom down and removing the wiring i don't think i will need from the mk3. i'm gonna see if i can get the cut down loom loosely hooked up tomorrow and chuck a battery on and see what happens, if i have any luck with it i can tidy up the loom and start splicing it with the mk3 wiring in the car

this looks good. i will be intersted to see how the wiring goes. as a future rally car of mine my have to be on injection for the rules of the class.

well the wiring is going shit

it turns over and sparks and if i shoot some easy start down the throttle body she fires up well, but the injectors just don't seem to be doing any thing. more info here click me.

is the fuel pump on the car the 16v's

would that make a difference?

its still the spi one atm but i was told that should do the job just to get it running.

This is really doing my head in now, if it was the immob at fauldt it would fire up then cut out so i don't think its that but what else could stop the injectors from priming?

it's now running turns out the fuel pump relay was fucked, should of checked the little things first really but hay hoe at least she's running now

got a small vid i'll upload in a 5, only a shorty tho because it still hasn't got the rad plumbed in and has only a mani for an exhaust

cam it really is very straight forward i'll get you some photo's of the loom and how i'm wiring it in tomorrow, should have it spliced in with the car loom and running off the key by then. it's only gonna need a few of the ignition wires splicing and the red/yellow fuel pump wire running from the ecu to the fuel sender. all the 6n wiring is just plug and play, just needs a few unneeded wires cutting out of the system to tidy it up a bit.

I know what you mean, had to do the same when I carb'd my mk4, got rid of the ECU and re-did all the wiring. Much prefer simple older cars without ECU's now

What I did though was to lay all the wires where I wanted them to go in the bay, and then in places, just put a bit of tape around them to hold them in places so it would stay in the same shape and then took it out and wrapped it. Wasn't too difficult just time consuming. Good luck with it though

Stuff like this Click is good to use instead of just tape, doesn't stick to itself so can easily redo it if you mess up.

i used my gt injection system on my 16valver had the inlet alloy welded there no room under there now lol goes really well
