Oh and plans stand at space the rear wheels out. 4 branch on and poly arb blocks. Then apart from regular servicing and looking after i am done.

A free-er flowing exhaust would compliment the 4 branch well. The GT centre pipe is not too bad but the backbox can be restrictive. A G40 pattern 'box would be a sound replacement, and can be had cheap too

I know i owned and sold a G40 box on here not too long ago that i was going to use for that very reason. The 4 branch will obviously remove the cat which is the main source of restriction. Thing is to put a G40 backbox on properly you need a G40 mid section which are difficult to come by second hand in good nick and are pretty much extinct pattern part wise. Obviously a reducer etc could be put on but its more joins and so on. I'll stick with standard until i know what i am doing with this car. If i plan to keep it a further year then i will go to longlife.

Sweet. For some reason, my G40 backbox mates up to my GT centre pipe perfectly. Think a few people on here have reported that too...

Chip put on. 4 branch arrived yesterday. In for its MOT today and G40 brakes with a brake system flush. So at least it will come to a stop now. New tyre on one of the rear wheels as some nice person decided to slash it. Someone also kicked a dent in the front wing that will ahve to be removed (not damaged paint). Trouble is the drivers side wing is a bit shonky on the condition front and having a dent repaired on it almost seems silly as it ideally needs swapping.

Put a klaxon horn on (so fun to scare people) and wired it into a seperate switch on the dash for use at passengers discretion and means i retain my original horn and the klaxon can be removed easy as pie.

That is all on the update front. Give me a call this weekend Sam. I'll come over and we'll go for some country lane fun.

Am hibernating til 26th july, got a uni resit that i cannot fuck up so needs must... And also lost the iphone, with all my numbers... Not cool. But yes i will be in touch and it would be nice to see it with all the new shiny bits, progress sounds pretty good to me. Arb blocks and G40 brakes are a must lets face it, and 4-branch with a half decent exhaust will make it pretty much complete without getting silly.

Well it passed the MOT with only needing rear nearside brake drum adjustment. Great success. G40 brakes on. Wired a klaxon horn into a swicth on the dash (so keep original horn) for a giggle. Funny to scare people sometimes.

Some nice person decided to kick?? my front wing leaving a dent. Had a quote for its removal but i am not going to do it. The lower part of the wing is suffering some rust and i am not about to pay upwards of £70 to fix a dent on a rusty wing. So a random wing will be on for polo show. Something fun. Then will have the wing resprayed come the winter.

Black carpets are top of the list when i get the car back.

No longer as tidy as it was. Some intentional damage has been sent in my cars direction. Someone decided to put a boot into the drivers wing and then key it on a seperate occassion. I have a genuine wing to replace it but it will need painting up. Any rough outline ideas on the cost of painting a wing? I know get to some bodyshops but difficult with work to be trecking round for quotes.

Car in for front wheel bearing this week. Hope to get it back for Sunday so i can come to poloshow but i don't know if i will make it

cost me 340 quid to get the wing and bonnet repaired on my GTi after some girl fell off her bike into it. Just to give you a idea on price.

You cannot tell one bit though lol.

No probs mate, i had a last miniute call to Silverstone to work on a race car, so was there all weekend!

No had much time to work on it this week, got a few jobs to do befor i fire it up,hoping to do it sunday tho!

Well i missed poloshow due to the passenger front wheel bearing feeling its age. Was going to chance it but decided that it would be better to have it fixed than cause any damage, an accident or me ripping my ears off at the services due to the annoying droning sound.

So brand spankers VW bearing pushed in and i am back on the road :-)

Wanged some LED's in the clocks as something to pass the time as i am a loser. Need orange needles i reckon but still better than normal. Heat dot in lamp from top of domed red LED. Did colour the tip of it with permanent marker but i think it needed multiple applications as light passed through it no bother. Easy to sort but its not bothering me.

Well time to resurrect!!

Bought the GT back!! Sold it to get a G40. Had my fun, and sold it. Bought a diesel barge. Got bored. Looked for another mk3 and this came up so thought why not. Its had a bit of a respray/rust removal, sounded like it had been looked after and a couple of upgrades (ATS classics put on too). Drove all the way to Andover and picked it up and what a piece of shit it was

The spec was when i picked it up:

Not so good things about it.......Worst wheel bearing noise you have ever heard whichg ot worse rapidly. Rear arches mangled by the silly wheels and some ghetton arch rolling. Handled like absolute AIDS on the ATS classics. Safe to say it drove better when i first bought it on bent GT steels. Exhaust blew into the cabin. Suspension up front wasn't right. Interior look like it had been fitted by a bear, properly ragged to fuck. Still bought it and drove it home and got to work......

Took it to a VW specialist i know and basically said to him to go over it with a fine tooth comb as i wanted the car to be sorted..... safe to say this has had some serious love. So in a month:

New VAG front wheel bearings.

New front uprated shocks (ones were leaking on the car).

New suspension top mounts.

New track rod ends (loads of play before)

New brakes lines over the entire car (all previously corroded).

New rear wheel cylinders.

New handbrake cable.

Brakes all bled up and tracking sorted.

Exhaust was bodged together as best as i could but was too shit to be worth saving. Started blowing again after fixing it so i threw it in the bin. Went to longlife exhausts and had a full stainless 1.75" system made that looks exactly like standard but with no centre box and just an awesome quality rear box. Really nice note. All matched up to the heat wrapped four branch, no blows :-) Also had custom hangers welded to the underneath so no chance of it falling off or moving (unlike the crispy original hangers).

Expansion tank and cap replaced with Vag items and coolant system flushed out of all the manky crap and re-filled with G12.

Osram nightbreakers and philips sidelights to replace the chavvy piss green bulbs.

Stickers removed.

Full mint G40 interior fitted (looks great with the calypso green).

Brand new VW polo rubber front mats.

New mint condition rear GT badge to replace the nail varnish painted jigsaw that was the old badge.

New JVC USB headunit to replace the mutant that didn't work and was gash.

New speakers fitted in dash.

Wheels taken off and replaced with refurbed BBS RA 13x6J, with 165/55/13 tyres, motorbike valves, new centre caps, new longer bolts and new locking bolts (so much better than the classics).

Full GT trim set to be fitted (awaiting the VW rivets and other bits before fitting).

Alarm and other security fitted :-)

Lots of cleaning and service parts bought too....

So thats us up to date.

Only thing left is stub axle spacers, poly engine mounts and lowering front top caps and i happy for winter mode.

I am going to add some more up to date pics when i get chance to take some.

Good progress.

I did a coolant flush as soon as I got the car back from buying it off you Barney, looked rancid! Then had to do it again after about 2 months of owning the car, I think someone had put something in the system at some point. I removed and cleaned out the expansion tank the best I could, but looked like it had had G11 mixed with something else put in it at some point and it had congealed.

Brake lines were pretty bad I admit, went through the MOT ok though, were next on my list of things to sort then I sold it! Shame to see it got beaten about after I had sold it!

Gt and g40 centre and rear exhaust sections are the same by the way.

Oh I'm not blaming anyone for condition of it. Most of it was age related. Maybe passed through a few questionable hands before I saw it again but I looked at it. Test drove it. Bought it. No belly aching or complaining. The body is much nicer than when I last saw it, I'm happy.

Coolant gets Grimey in these old iron blocks all the time. Think it was mainly the manky expansion tank that was to blame. It was pretty shitted up. Probably a few different types of coolant flowing about.

Only thing I was pissed about was that I asked if it made any noises to which I was told no. Unless you were stone deaf you knew there was a bearing that was fucked. Knowing I had a four hour drive home I was a little bit down about it.

Anyway all sorted now and by that list of repairs, the mods and how solid and good it drives there isn't many GTs left like this.

Calypso green for the win.

And to max.... ra's are the past and the future. I love them.
