I like being a teenager, its fun everyone assuming I cane it everywhere in my hatchback driving a 'modified' car with loud music on. Little do they know, my car is slow as fuck, i cant afford to get 3 points for speeding and shit. Not a pussy driver, do give it beans but with great consideration of conditions and that. But that is now I've matured a bit. When i was 17 it was a different storey in the Mk3 GT.

i was so tired and thought going faster would make me feel more awake.......what a tool.

A bit back i drove a lot of the M5 with my head out of the window to stay awake, piss poor idea.

I think cars should be categorised on performance and new drivers should only be allowed cars of a certain category.

Trouble is, everyone seems to think it's youths having fast cars?

It seems to me, from what i've seen, that it's some the kids in 1.1 Saxo's, Corsa's, Polo's etc that cause the most damage. They seem to have no regard to speed, safety or others, and they are the ones more often than not who have accidents, kill themselves or worse, other people. Catergorising them to 1 litres wouldn't change a thing. Sure alot of kids these days get nearly new cars bought for them by their parents, but that doesn't mean they are fast lol.

Most people with fast cars seem to respect the road, although you do get the odd tosspot who thinks it's ok to go past a school at 100+mph...

I upgraded from my 6n 1.4 8v to my mk2 golf gti valver, and to be honest, i drive it slower than i drove my polo 98% of the time, so pretty spot on there pal.

The standard of driving overall has fallen the other afternoon i was following a BSM car and 8 time in the space of a mile she drove into the kerb on the 9th time the wheel gave up, the instructor was not impressed when i asked if the pupil was actually sober (young girl).

Working part-time for the 1st response ambulance service is a real eye-opener, normally we are the 1st at an accident and over the last 3/4 months we find ourselves called to accidents involving very new drivers, and these accidents are also in places that are uncommon for crashes, long banked bends, straights with clear oncoming visability etc. most of these accidents are unexplained, most happen in what would be called perfect weather conditions (dry roads, clear skies), there are normally little or no skidmarks and a lot of the time no other vehicle is involved, a few are easily explained such as the young girl who crashed her car into a milk stand on a very wide section of straight road who had lots of deep cuts and lacerations on her left hand and fingers when we came to remove the "glass" we found they were shards of a CD that she had been changing before the accident, police checked and found the other half snapped in the stereo as well as a half written text message on her phone.

Not being sexsist in anyway but the amount of accidents involving girls between 17 & 18 are on the rise around here and are quickly catching up with the amount of young lads we deal with, sadly and slightly stereotypically most of these girly cars feature a lot of pink...

wow, reading some of these has been pretty sobering. regarding the post above, my female friend passed her test last week, and is probably one of the best newly passed drivers i've been out with. anyway we decided to take our terminally ill also female friend out for a drive. now this friend knows the value of life more than anyone else i know, yet still there she was in the passenger seat fiddling with as many buttons and knobs as she could find. the driver was having a nightmare trying to concentrate and it made me realise why my dad still doesn't want me getting in cars with newly passed mates. sometimes it doesn't matter how good the driver is, its the other people in the car that cause accidents.

A friend of a friend crashed his 1.1 Saxo at 90ish last night, racing a 320i, I've been told the saxo rolled twice (without touching the floor), mashed a kerb after landing on it's wheels, went through a hedge and sideways into a small tree, driver and 2 are in hospital now, drove past it as it was going onto the truck, and by Christ was it fucked over

made me think, if the saxo that's not even 10 yrs old is in that state, what state would an 18yr old polo made of biscuits do?

i started in a 1litre mk2 breadvan 13 years ago. went to a 1.3 mk2 coupe, then up through every stage you can think of to being able to get any quick car really. drive less and slower now than ever . probably covered ground quicker in the 1ltr car than any car since

had some prick today must of been about his 40's in a fiat punto thinking he could just pull out in to main road thinking i would let him out made me swerve in to the other side of the road.. so i gave him the V and a few hazard light flashes... he soon turned away made me want to stop the car and get out :( MAD!!! and it would be ilegal to lie who the main driver is for the sake of a cheaper quote, also voiding any insurance...if anything did happen then no payout for you! Oh and if caught by the feds it could result in points/fine/ban.

Not being racist but is it me or are most Asian lads you see driving daddys beamer or merc? No chance they couldn't get insured for under 3.5k or so....then there is the cost of the car itself!! Yesterday I saw two 09 M5s being drove by people no older then 21 and some 08 AMG being drove by someone who could hardly see over the wheel. Oh and they were all driving like pricks, shot past me doing 40...in a 40 of course they must of been doing 60 or so, then almost sideways on a roundabout in front.

I'm 21, and just graduated from a law degree at manchester met, theres a lad on my course who has a C63 AMG, another who rocks up in a blue audi R8, and then another in a modded e90 m3 saloon. and this wasnt an occasional thing, they turned up near enough every day in them

also when i was 17 I'm gonna admit i drove like a prick, but i was lucky and maybe talented [nah just lucky] in that i didnt crash, and when i realised that every single one of my other mates had crashed i kinda learnt by their mistakes

i still drive fast by all means, and sometimes have a play with other cars but its just realising when it is appropriate and safe. and even then, if you think that the other driver is not in your mindset and thinking "I MUST WIN AT ALL COSTS DESPITE HOW MANY SUICIDAL OVERTAKES" etc or just drives like a pleb then i normally just back off and leave them to it. its not often that happens though coz i also dont waste petrol racing shit cars driven by kids, they're much to slow and driving at my normal pace often leaves them standing anyway :p

Case and point, my valver was off the road, so i was driving a saxo, pulled out into a road, fairly busy road, was let out at my side, gap of about 7 or 8 car lengths at the side i was pulling out onto, so pulled out straight after the car that went past. Car behind, some middle aged guy in a dreadful y reg fiesta obviously didnt like this, so sped up rediculously to sit right up my arse with his full beams on, giving me the idiot sign out of the window and nudging me at some traffic lights. Needless to say he looked a big chap so i didn't bother getting out over my £400 saxo, at which point he proceded to follow me, culminating in us coming to a junction and him driving full bore into the back of me, then reversing so he could drive off, he obviously didn't anticipate me reversing aswell and taking out his other light plus his front wing, at which point he then sped off, cutting up an old lady in a citroen c2 causing her to nearly crash aswell.

On the subject of driving too quickly i think to be fair, everyone's done it at some point, and anyone who says they haven't had a tickle of the throttle that could have ended badly is quite frankly lieing, but you soon realise that theres a time and a place for it, I'm perfectly willing to admit i drive quickly, but when I'm on my own in the car, and on roads i know. Theres only 1 of my group of freinds i actually trust driving quickly, and its due to the fact i know he can handle the car driving quickly. Same as when you get some cock sitting right up your arse, i dont mind giving it a tickle, but ill never sit up behind people myself, because i know that if they were to loose it, i'd feel like id been pushing them to loose it. At the end of the day if I'm in my car on my own on a nice empty country road, the worse case scenario is damage to my car, my pride, my wallet or myself, and thats a risk I'm willing to live with, I'm just not willing to make that risk other peoples.

theres a time and a place to give it a little bit of stick its just knowing the times and the places and how much stick to give it that many youngens dont know. I'm 19 and just bought my 3rd polo which is a GT. And i drive it exactly the same as my last 2 polos ~(both 1.3spis) i just use less throttle.

I dnt speed round town or the city centre (plymouth so most people are idiots on the road its very scary) nowadays the only place i will speed will be 60 zones or motorways and still i wont every go over 100 and usually stay less that 80. Apart from the other night wen sum dick how was doing 50 decided to put there high beems on then tail gate me at 70 so i stuck my foot down and didnt realise how fast i was going until i looked down and saw the needle shoot pass 100 ooooppppsss still getting used to gt power.

I've been in 2 accidents and i think it did me gd. 1st one an old granny pulled out without looking and rammed my drivers door pushing me into her garden. i was still in 1st gear so i was going pretty slow.

The 2nd one i rolled into the back on a bmw x3 which i swear was one of those pricks who crashes cars for people as he jumped the give way line then slammed on his brakes. Granted i was looking right to see if it was safe for me to pull out so i learnt from my mistakes.

Look in the salvage part of Auto Trader and you'll find cars of every type in equal measure. Sure,my local french breakers is full of smashed VTR's. But the local Volvo breakers is also full of smashed cars,that's what they all stock.

Fact is,you see a car and you're one of two people seeing one of two things.

a) what car it is.

b) how its being driven.

Once past the stage of giving a shit about other people's cars,i became more sensitive to how a car is being driven. You kinda know what to expect just from details like positioning and behaviour.

That's when you know when to keep back,and let them crack on - regardless of what the driver or their car looks like.

I did some stupid stuff when I just passed my test, pushing my luck. I calmed down a lot after the first few months. But the twats who are the worst offenders have been driving for over a year and still drive like they're on a track. Usually in a tiny little hatchback with a 1 litre engine. I dont think a cap on engine size would be a good idea because you can always have a massive crash in any car if you try hard enough. Although it is sort of funny seeing some rich kid stuff his Merc into a hedge.

Went down a highstreet and knocked a few wingmirrors off, then went on the A10 (pretty dangerous section of it) hossed around a bit, went to a car park and hit the gas instead of the brake. Went straight into a lampost and knocked it down.

Left the scene and got the car home.

She had a court date and stuff but barely got anything if i remember correctly.

One of the scary things is that none of these girls were stupid... 2 of the 3 are now at top elite universities.

Makes you wonder.

Loads of people have crashed in my year.

The first was one of my mades who had a slow as hell old 1.2 corsa which he lost control of in the rain going too fast and rolled it in to a field.

The second was a friend whos dad had bought him a 1.6 mk4 golf. He crashed it 2 months after getting it trying to do a corner at 60 leaving the road and narrowly missing a tree and ending up in a pile of manure and the golf was a write off.

Another person in my year got an MGTF at 18 after driving a 1L corsa for a year. He wrote off the within 24 hours.

All of these people crashed from driving like idiots. I very rarely speed and whenever i do i end up seeing a police car and slamming on the braked with the fear they have seen me so now i just drive carefully everywhere fuel costs too much anyway and i want my 1 years no claims bonus so i can get more power!!
