recently picked up this £2 bargain (yes £2 it wasnt a typo :) )

astrali a890 steering wheel

looked abit tatty so i just resprayed the centre satin black and gave the leather a clean and polish, doesn't look immaculate and new which is exactly the look i wanted as it sorta matched the age and style of the car.

sorry for the crappy picture, i just wanted to plonk it on there and check out how it looked

need to find a boss for it now...

ooo good to hear, glad ime also going for piper ultimate road cams, ported and polished head, 421 mani and a black diamond clutch to keep the power to the wheels :p

really really cant wait for it to be done!

well it will fly mate. I've just got the stock valver with yamaha fazer 600 carbs and its quick , especially as its only a 1.4. I've embarassed a few car owners i can tell u. just make sure you can stop the bugger, lol.

most definetly! i think some g40 brakes with a decent rotor and pad setup will be sufficient?? or should i consider something better?

ime constantly open to suggestions :)

depends on wheel size really. 256,s would help.

hmm i shall most likely be sticking with 13's or 14's, 15's may be a tad too big for my slammage :) as i dont want to do major archwork, plus i think there may be a hole under one of the arch trims (but i daredent look)

now mate its darren lad who u baught it off... intresting thread seing my old baby lol looks good so far, I'm going to 14 16 the silver bready mk3 lol iv still got it...

thats exactly what i want to hear :p, yeh mines still in a rebuild stage at the moment, just waiting on parts now...

made some progress with my 'custom' g40 brakes today, smoothed off all the visible casting marks with a file to make them appear totally smooth and painted them gold, they look rather good i must say :p pics to follow shortly

black diamond pads and rotors also arrived friday, just waiting on the goodridge braided hoses and replacement seal kits now to get the brakes on, bled and ready to go

cams and cylinder should also be back this week so i can start getting the engine rebuilt

Looking good dude, will you not be running a mounting plate for the offside chassis mount ?

Looking good dude, will you not be running a mounting plate for the offside chassis mount ?

will the 2 bolts not be good enough? i will make a mount somehow if ness

I'm doing the same conversion to my loon right now - from what I've read and seen, its wise making a 4bolt plate up (the other two bolts use two of the redundant holes left by the unneccessary power steering pump.) This will stop rotational forces from the engine when under load i.e. ripping the mount/engine join apart.. having 4 bolts is going to keep the mount solid.

I'm going to be using 7mm stainless and just machining some off the existing mount to house it!

what he said but I'm doing it in a mk1 and I'm using 5mm ali instead

the mount will have to be so long to reach down the engine to the other 2 holes though it would look horrid

Thats true, it is a fair distance, but imo if you can make one up so what if reaches the top two redundant holes then youre cool.. failling that, drilling one of the dense cast bits of the block a little further up and mounting to that, next to the oil filter? ... either way - you'll need to run a plate and its peace of mind that the mount withstands the abuse really, i know mine is going to be getting some stick :)

yeh piece of mind i suppose, i shall look into doing it tomorow, alloy plate needed now...

Cool dude :)

I'll have a better idea of what craic is when i strip down my afh - I just want it to be as discreet as possible really.

Good thread anyway man, keep it up!
