safe in her new home while i finish the engine this week :)

DAY 1 OF REBUILD

disaster!

when popping the pistons back into the block i managed to snap one of my fairly new piston rings!

gsf sorted me out though :) replacement will be here tomorow!

also fitted a pair of new inner cv joints for good measure :)

also removed the bonnet to give better access

and that was it as i cant do anything else until i have the replacement rings :(

not a great 1st day, lets hope tomorow is better!

DAY 2 OF REBUILD

went to GSF and picked up the replacement piston rings

went to the bodyshop to collect my wheels (a few posts above)

rebuilt block fully; pistons, oil pump, oil pickup

fully torqued bottom end and refit sump with fresh loctite sealant

fitted and torqued flywheel and clutch

fitted gearbox and ancilleries; alternator, waterpump, timing belt tenisoners and belt (easier to pop the belt into place now than in the bay)

dropped it into the engine bay onto the stiffer mounts, which incidently made it much harder to fit as there was much less room to tug it about into place than with the softer original mounts

day done :)

progress may sound slow, but ime just taking my time and being thorough as i have a while to get it done :)

Dirty alternator and gearbox or am I missing something? Personally if I was having a blingey bay like you I'd have a cc-d or polished gearbox and a polished alty?

Depends how bad it is i guess.

Sometimes just sanding it down or whatever can make it look a million times better

I spent £180 getting 3 of my lips fixed up properly though, they re-welded alloy in and then machined them down.

How many of them are damaged?

DAY 3 OF REBUILD

Well yesterday was very productive!

Bolted cv joints to diff

Connected gear linkage

Fitted new clutch cable

Got the head on and torqued down

Replaced camshaft seals

Fully fit timing belt and timed correctly

Helicoiled a thread for the rocker cover

Plumbed in radiator etc

Fitted bike fuel pump and new blue fuel line

Inlet manifold and carbs

Wired in the coil etc

So not a huge amount left to do today to fire her up :)

DAY 4 OF REBUILD

She is alive!!!

A little smokey at first from the oil on the cylinder bores during assembly and she is also slightly tappy but thats getting quiter each time its revd, which incidetly sounds much much faster than before!!

Will have a day of tuning and tinkering tomorow :)

DAY 5 OF REBUILD

took her for a little drive around my local area this afternoon inbetween tinkering with the carbs/timing and oh my she feels very fast

top fill radiators are definetly a bastard to bleed! but i got there in the end, i think...

but for some odd reason the tracking seems to be majorly out even though i haven't touched the suspension at all since it last came of the road and was fine :S all i have done is swapped the wheels a few times...

Handrake cable adapters arrived from germany yesterday :)

Rear disc conversion can now be finished as soon as i have time!

Also ordered some carb filters, but better quality ram air foam single bolt on filters :)

New filters :)

wheels painted, polished and put back together :)

cant wait to fit them when the better weather comes :)

If your wanting all out power/performance, i'd sell them individual sock filters, and go back to the single item.

The one i previously had on doesnt fit these carbs because they are longer so no space for it :( wol see how i get on with these first, there good quality so i shouldnt see them causing a problem

finally got a red trimmed speedo surround!

it might sound daft but i have been after one for so bloody long!
