Bilco's Mk'2 Eaton G Saloon

Featured Replies

I just never bothered with that plate and I've never had a problem! Been running it like that for over a year aswell.

The mk3 starter is only needed if you want to run the lighter mk3 flywheel

Wow well if yours is coping with all that extra power I'm sure my standard conversion will be ok :) Just everyone goes on about rotational forces on the mount...

Yeah i'd prefer to run the lighter mk3 fly, did you use the AFH fly? Isn't it harder to get the box on with the original AFH fly?

Well i made a start this morning! First i pulled all the original engine bay loom/fusebox and compared it to the g40 loom so that i could lable everything up for future reference. The eagle eyed

Just get the afh flywheel lightened, saves fuckin about trying to find the mk3 stuff, and yeh it can sometimes be abit of a pain, sometimes it will just slot on, other times I've needed to remove the drive side cv joint bit from the diff and it goes on straight away

i haven't used the plate either, youll be fine.

Ok so no plate unless my friend manages to CNC one in time for next weekend.

I can buy the 94 starter motor for 60 quid from my local parts store, whereas lightening a 6n flywheel will cost a lot more I imagine? So think I'll just use the mk3 setup. Any ideas how much lighter the mk3 fly actually is just to finalize this decision? :p

not sure what the weight difference from mk3 to 4 is but i only paid an extra £40 to have my flywheel done when i had all the other lightening work done. If you can source the bits easy enough then fair enough, i just couldnt be arsed :)

and also to add to this, ime currentrly doing a g60 conversion into a mk1 golf for a friend, and the custom driver side engine mount you buy is held on by 4 crappy m8 allen bolts and nobody has ever had problems, whereas as the polo is held on with 2 fookin massive bolts!

Hmm I'd give it ago if I had a proper vice and a decent grinder but with neither reckon I'll just use the mk3 fly, cheers for the advice though :)

Is that the red clipper in this thread? Mk1 g60's are meant to go better than VR's, will be insane :p I know someone with both and he says the mk1 easily beats his mk3! Feel much better about the mount now, if the plate is ready I'll use it but if not no worries it seems

Well the engine is back in pieces yet again tonight :(

Will be stripping it tomorow night to take to the machineists to have the valve guides replaced

Also went to vw yesterday and ordered a full set of replacement valves...

I hope this finally solves the bloody oil burning problem!

I would have done if i hadnt of spent so much money on this one!

why didnt you get the ones off ebay for £9 each that would only have been £150 odd then even i wouldnt spend that much just on valves unless they were ferriday sodium filled ones fuck lol

i just wanted quality replacement ones, not some spurious shite :)

id have just bought another afh and taken them out of that.

But fair play for doing it properly, wish i had the money to blow that much on valves alone haha

just slightly stuck with finding some adapters to run the copper lines direct to the caliper

and then once its done and dusted its back to bogg bros for a final tune up and shes back on the road for now...

Nice work. Tell me about finding adaptors! Get some pics up of what you have and what you need to join together. I have tried multiple sets of lines, adaptors blah blah blah. I'm sure I can give you a hand
