appreciate it!

i love the polo community :)

Are you going to alter the 5th gear in the GT? With the power and torque of this, I have a fear you may run out of gears too early, making cruising a revvy ball ache

I will be swapping out the 5th from my current gearbox as its spot on for motorway runs :)

I cannot believe you'd need a box as short as a GT, on 13's, in such a light car with so much power :s

My current 8P 1.3 box is horrible, drop from 2nd to 3rd is soo big its a joke!

Yeah that is an issue, find a video of Eric's AFH down pod haha.

GT is SHORT you do realise?

Still not as short as the gearbox i first started out with on my conversion! That was just crazy how short it was! Atleast the gt is abit more inbetween

What did you start with? Does the final drive of the gt match your current box too?

I never knew what the code was but it was from my original 1ltr engine, yeh the final drive will be the same as my current box

I'd say with 5th swapped over from the 8p it will be spot on. The original GT box on my afh gets you to 90/100 pretty quick but after that not a lot really happens and just about hits 115. With that longer 5th gear you'll be laughing mate! I know I hit near 130 on my old 8p (or so the speedo tells me...)

8p boxes are shit. third gear absoloutely killed my pod times. i could go in 3rd over the line!

precisely why i need to get a proper gearbox sorted!

Yeah man!

Well I don't think you'd need AS short as a GT, especially power wise and the fact you've a smaller circumference tyre.

For example there's a couple of 6n boxes the same ratio as a valver box, you can also turn a cable change box into rod, use whatever fifth suits etc, just need to know about crown wheels etc, but isn't a weak part of these boxes the crown wheels attachment anyway? Could you not just remove the rivets as they do when they recon boxes?

I'm not saying don't get a GT box btw am just stating there are other options which maybe more available :)

Fifth gear is easy to swap actually when I think about it now, so if you need any tips on that I don't mind helping.

I made a spread sheet of different ratios, with my tyre size and different combinations of 5ths and stuff to see what was a good option :) just a bit lengthy

Poloshow Craig? I need to see this car in person.

And take that sticker off it :ninja:

so all CEH gearbox's have bolt on crown wheels do they?!?!

Clearly this one doesnt!!!!!

Whoever came up with that wonderful nugget of information?!?!

Fucked off certainly isnt the word! I have bought a full car for a gearbox which clearly is useless to me!!!!

Is it even remotely possible to have the rivets drilled out and then bolted back togther with some high tensile nuts and bolts or am i stuffed?

Ye you can remove the rivets, sure its written on clubG40 i'll go have a read ;)

EDIT: cant find anything, i will keep looking but dont take the above as gospel!

I have found this (i will keep looking for 100% proof) but looking at the layout of the bolts i personally cant see a reason why the rivets cannot be replaced with the bolts....
