Well i made a start this morning! First i pulled all the original engine bay loom/fusebox and compared it to the g40 loom so that i could lable everything up for future reference. The eagle eyed

Space saver spec for the drag wheels i recon - it's possible to peel the stickers off space savers as long as you take care and they're not too cold.

So i just had a rolling road sesh this morning, didnt make the power i expected :( but i still know its fast and can keep up with much faster cars!

Ermm, what spec is this mate? had a look on post 1 of page 1 for a spec but i couldnt see anything.

Strange that mate, have you got an AFR log? Engine spec be good.

Makes pretty decent torque considering its in FTLBs not NM...its like mine makes shit power on a rolling road but seems to be lots better than others with numbers on pieces of paper?

Also, I'm going for megajolt too haha, lets see if we can make some more power! when are you aiming to get it done?

This simply cant be right, as i said on FB

cams, headwork, carbs, re-profiled dizzy etc... has got to give more than an 11bhp increase over standard

really fucks me off people who chase numbers

Is that at the fly or wheels? If it's at the fly I've seen valvers on stock injection make more! If it's at the wheels, I'd guess it's about right?

Flywheel power looking at that graph

Its at the flywheel, says down the sides.

Its most likely that the RR isn't calibrated correctly,

But then again these quater miles times don't sound right either!

Edited by MaxGT

Was thinking that before, quarter miles don't add up.

When were the carbs last set up? Has anything changed since?

8p boxes are shit. third gear absoloutely killed my pod times. i could go in 3rd over the line!

Was your car running right? My injected AFH was well into 4th with the 8p box, i couldn't of physically gone across the line in 3rd without of being on the limiter :?

Didn't this make something like 140bhp? (sure it was mentioned in the feature?). I'd be surprised if the rollers were out by like 30bhp tbh but might be worth sticking it on another set of rollers to rule that out. its all well and good people shrugging it off with what seems like some kind of a dig at "people chasing numbers" but to me if those numbers are right then that car isn't running how it should be for what ever reason. as said that spec should easily be hitting 130bhp but probably more

If it was me I wouldn't be happy with that, not because it wasn't making big power yo! Just because its showing that some thing is very wrong somewhere along the line. I would stick it on another set of rollers first tho just to be as sure as you can that there isn't a fault with the rollers, but if there is then its gotta be a pretty big fault for it to be so far out

What sort of times were you getting at the pod? I looked a few pages back but couldn't see them

Expensive it may be, but a few sets of rollers and taking an average is probably the most accurate way of measuring power, ignoring any anomalous results. Rarely do different set of rollers measure the same power, what's important is when you change something you measure power again on the same rollers.

However, that does seem very low, but a guy says, I can't see it being the rollers for that amount. Jets? Timing? Carbs balanced? cam timing? Do your have an afr gauge?

Mine was running lean i think, had similar symptoms as when this was lean the other day. Obvs I've only realised now.

It only managed a 16.7 and i could go along the line in third if i stretched it.

Think craigs saloon managed a 15.5, so to me it dont add up.

according to the lad who did the run for me, its running a little rich and could do with a couple of extra degrees of advance as there isnt quite enough at the top end, that should free up a few extra bhp, but that still doesn't explain the piss poor figures!

i know the dyno is accurate as his newly purchased m5 apparently made the power it should and another friend with a clio 182 made the power it should on exactly the same dyno no so long ago,

so i think people who say they had higher readings with lesser mods have clearly used an in-accurate dyno! and no offence meant but you are clearly kidding your selves :) i would rather have a lower reading thats accurate than higher figures that mean jack all!

but i have found out an interesting point that it makes full torque from 3000rpm which explains the brutal feeling off the line ;)

but then again, i will take much more pleasure telling people what the power is just after i have raped them in there 12 plate "hot" hatch ;)

its bollocks though, 11BHP from carbs, cams, headwork, everything?

thats true, but where the hell do i start?!

a little vid of the run

VIDEO!!

Are you trying to convince us or yourself with that?

The injected afh in my blue mk3 made 90bhp at the wheels (works out to as near as damit to 110 at the fly once transmission loss are worked out) with just a filter, de-cat and full exhaust. On the same day pretty much everything else was getting what was expected other than a rado that got less than expected.

You can't tell me that you actually believe that with all that work it should only be producing that sort of power, and that pretty much every other modded afh to be RR'd was given a vastly over calculated figure?

You mention two other cars to back up how accurate those rollers are but a lot can happen to a set of rollers in "not so long" amount of time, I'm assuming its not like these runs were on the same day as your run? But then they could be accurate and the problem could be with your car, either way week in week out people get decent figures with modded AFH's, they can't all be wrong

I'm not trying to be a Dick or owt but you must know deep down that either way something isn't right there?

Is that a puff of blue smoke on the overun in that vid? or just a bit of unburnt petty?

AS Guy says, milder modded AFHs produce more power. If the rollers are reading true, then you know it must be the car. No ones having a go, we'd all rather see it make more (or else I'm in for a big shock if i ever RR mine). Same happened with Nick's. I would have expected his to have gotten more than it did (though he binned it before it got sorted).

What?! :lol::?

Mate a standard AFH is making 100BHP ATF from standard,

Either something was up with the rollers, or your engine has something seriously wrong with it.

nicks is a totally different engine tho and delivers power in a different way to the AFH, i don't think there was anything wrong with his set up that needed sorting. it just delivered the power in a more usable way, hence it raping my 1.6 on the strip with less power

Its just a bit rediculous how countless people on here have 120-130bhp afh's on different rollers ect yet yours must be right because you wont admit something must be wrong!

I suggest you investigate dude

I feel for you mate, but you can look at it two ways.

My car made a lot less power than expected, going by the other two similar setups, which has annoyed me since, also confirmed same figures on two sets of rollers.

But also, it goes well, is good to drive and is proven down the strip or whatever, so maybe you should just ignore it, if it runs well, isnt too rich or lean etc maybe just leave it?

By the way, 3 degrees more ignition advanced gave mine a total of 2 more HP peak, having less fuel in the tank would be more noticeable.

What was your AFR through the range?

And Simon that smoke is nothing compared to my friends fiesta which made 160hp after very rough jetting and ignition mapping, uses oil but doesn't effect how it goes, so we'll rule tha out haha

i just dont know what i want to think to be fair,

apart from fiddling with the timing and fueling slightly as suggested i would not know where to look next as i cannot think where else i could be loosing power?
