Bilco's Mk'2 Eaton G Saloon

I hate the placement of the pump assembly, gets covered in road filth.

Well i made a start this morning! First i pulled all the original engine bay loom/fusebox and compared it to the g40 loom so that i could lable everything up for future reference. The eagle eyed

it was a bit of a mission but between a deodorant can, lighter and a bead blaster they went on :)

haven't done much recently as i haven't had much spare time the last few weekends. I have managed to paint the tank though, found an almost full tin of black hammerite in the garage so i just wire brushed the rusty bits and gave them a blast of zinc primer before giving the whole thing a good coating of hammerite. It actualy came out surprisngly nice, shame you wont be able to see it once refitted! :(

I have also located the mounting studs for the fuel pump assembly so i scrapped off the thick coating of underseal and ran a die over them

haven't done anything for a while, currently stuck with the radiator situation as i need a custom one making and i have been quoted £350 which i just don't have spare at the moment :( any hopes of taking it to bugjam this year are out of the window unfortunately :(

so for the time being i chucked the front end back together so it could be taken off the axle stands to make way for the red shed... plans are to throw an engine in it and use it for bugjam :D it hasnt seen the road since 1996, needs an ignition barrel, a working engine and a bit of a general tidy up

well the red shed didnt get anywhere near being ready for bugjam and is still sat in the same place! but it does have a slightly running engine now

HOWEVER....

i did feel inspired to have a play with the saloon recently, i ripped out the rear false floor and the porsche seats etc and was about to start welding in the cage when the tin worm came out to bite me :( all these years on the damp grass have taken its toll....

Not sure why i bother updating this anymore, does anyone even care?

Not sure why i bother updating this anymore, does anyone even care?

I care mate I do keep an eye on this but being such a long thread I haven't tried to just interject now lol

Sure there's lots of people interested in it. I feel like that about my thread all the time but it at least keeps a good log of what you have done

My threads the same, 99% my comments. Think everyone views but few comment

All build threads are the same lately, the reason being the forum just isn't as busy as it used to be thanks to Facebook :cray:

But personally I don't like to see a build thread littered with random comments, I'd rather see and read about the car being worked on and it's progress. Plus as said it is a great way for you to keep track yourself as to how you have progressed with a car.

I'm interested. This isn't facebook, you don't need peoples validation. I only update mine as a record of the work i've done

Yeah I read this... :) 99% of my build threads are just my comments :)

But that's a real bugger about the rust... trust me I know how you feel!!

Don't fret. I've noticed this trend towards people looking and not commenting. As said previously Facebook has a lot to answer for. I like reading peoples threads but I feel like I'm being repetetive when all I say is "Good progress. Can't wait to see this on the road :D".

ok so maybe more people than i think are still following this :)

well unfortunately the kids next door decided it was a good idea to treat the car as a slide and have badly scratched the bonnet as well as causing a couple of big shallow dents along the front of the bonnet the little twats!

angry wasn't the word believe me!

but there's not really alot i can do about it as the family are kind enough to let me use there garden/drive and the kids are too young to really know what they were doing. suppose i have to just take it on the chin :(

In other news i have ordered a set of Aerocatch bonnet pins as i had to remove the standard catch to make room for the intercooler!

I'm still following Craig! One of the originals!

Young or not, if the little shits are big enough to climb on a car, they are big enough for a boot up the arse

But on a good note i have got around the radiator situation and i have managed to make use of my original non top fill radiator!

Edited by dubownerbilco

I've had to chop my front brace/radiator mount out and make another that sits a few inches lower to try and get a bit more clearance for my eaton. Space is really limited in the front of these mk2's
