so you think everybody should conform to everybodys ideas of the perfect car? shows would be fun then

but that's just it tho, you think your not conforming by rusting your bonnet but that's exactly what you are doing, how is doing some thing that shit loads of other people are doing 'being different'? i'm not saying all car's should be modded the same, just don't try and play the 'your hating my car cause it's different' card when it's no different to the other thousands of 'rat look' cars on our roads.

if you want to be different then do some thing different, if you want to just fit into a click then fit into a click, just don't get pissy when people point out to you that you are no different to any one else that's following a trend.

and people that do it just to 'piss off the scene' are doing exactly what they are rebeling against. they are modding their car for some one else, in this case it's not to please other people but whether you are doing it to please someone or to agitate someone it's the same thing at the end of the day, your doing it for a reaction from some one else.

i love a well executed rat look car, whether it be water cooled or air cooled, the problem is these days you very rarely see a well executed rat in the watercooled scene. for the most part they all just seem to look the same and are all conforming to the rat look check list (rusty bonnet-check, roof rack-check, yellow headlights-check...).

oh and doug, B-shaws car isn't rat, it's just a long running joke with it

well i've decided roughly what i'll be doing....

I'll put the P Slots on it which i bought for the Mk1 before i decided to 1.8T it, they wont fit now as i'll need bigger brakes so the Ibiza can have them. I've bought a second hand bonnet to chalk board, Bought a few stickers for it (could get a club polo one too ) Gonna drop it on its belly and i think that'll do.

I'm not doing anything irreversible as i'll just put it back to normal once the Golf is done (and my OH has to drive it sometimes lol)

zackly.... i did the whole rat thing on my bug years ago... got boring pretty quick when every other bloke did it.and it got very samey for somthing that was supposed to be so "different"

... got it painted properlly pretty soon after... did some subtle things that took some thought and got it painted a non vw colour. it looks like no other one but also looked nice...

Yeh i think its difficult to be different than everyone else out there..... if you found something different to do, once people saw that and it went down well, it'd just start off as a new trend so you wouldnt be unique for long.

Why do men feel the need to patronise me? Boils my piss! I know what I'm doing, I know what's gonna happen, I know what I'm getting myself into, I didn't just wake up one morning and go huh, yeah I'm gonna do that today!

It is part of the learning you're right, but unlike most people I don't have money to piss up the wall, so I'd rather feel confident, have some control and know if I am gonna do some stacking it won't be terminal, just minor bumps that can be fixed.
