It's a good game.. Just a disappointment.

If this would have been released 3-2 years ago like when it was meant to be, it would have been insane.

But the fact is, they started to create this game years ago, have obviously got to a certain point where they can't go back on programming/design levels and have ended up releasing a game 3 years late which has made the design/playability 3 years out of date. Games have evolved in the past few years to be very user friendly and with huge adaptation into whatever the user wants to do.

Come on, what do they expect, 20% of the cars in the game were only designed for the game, the rest were ripped, and quite frankly ripped very poorly from previous editions. Just think about it; the other 80% don't have up to date physics, damage, interior views or graphics worthy of a game released in 2010 (plus you can'f fit new wheels to standard cars either!). Couple this with being 3 years late, that is just embarrassing and as far as I'm concerned unacceptable.

I don't want to be playing this game which has boasted about it's beautiful aesthetics for 3 years only to have a 80% chance to be racing against a pixelated car which mirrors what I was racing against in GT4 all those years ago.

The menu's are slow and confusing and the music just offends my ears.

Now, don't get me wrong here, the 20% of the game they got right is unreal, the other 80% lets it down.

I'm a Grant Turismo fan, I always have been and always will be, I've owned them all. But They have obviously just thought 'we are the best driving sim' and just got complacent. Forza 3 just nails it, full stop. Ok, the graphics aren't as good, but they aren't bad though are they? at least they are consistent.

you hit the nail on the head my friend

Just got it, loading times suck, as does the crappy music in game (Billing Aquadrome fairground anyone?)

Karting is cool, the cars handle very poorly until you turn everything off, then I found it quite a challenge.

Track builder is abit pish, tried to build Oulton Park last night but even after 30min it looked nothing like, I'll wait until someone else does it :-)

Also I expect people will be building/designing their own cars for this!?

So what trophies has everyone got? Seen the speed demon one when I cracked either 300 kph or 200 mph not sure which one on the Mulsanne straight, along with the photo one, first race won, rolling a car, and one for analyzing performance on a data logger according to my trophy collection. Only played it for a couple of hours though, was borrowing my mates disc.

The trouble is, GT4 was excellent and it came out nearly six years ago!

And let's face it, impressive though GT5 is it isn't the pinnacle of mind-blowing graphics and infinite mine of cars as its predecessor was.

I still find GT4's graphics fairly impressive tbh...

You say you have always played GT but yet this surprises you...the cheesy elevator jazz music is part of the charm - as is the...IMO...quirky menu's.

What people seem to forget is Polyphony are JAPANESE not AMERICAN...So to compare to Forza is just an invalidity as they took no influences whatsoever when making GT5...they done it there way!

Overall i think they have made a masterpiece...yes ok there are some hideously fucked up aspects to the game like the jagged shadows which can EASILY be fixed through a software patch and the whole standard cars bullshit but seriously does this make it a shit game?

The game is an "evolving" entity (according to Kazunori Yamauchi) ...they will add better damage, more cars, multiplayer matchmacking among other things...just be paitient!

^^^ Those jagged shadows are shocking, same when your car is covered by tyre smoke.

Agree with most of what you've said, but not so much this.

More cars are a good add-on, so are extra tracks. For either of these, I'm happy to wait.

Delaying a game release for years makes people expect a product which works from the off. This doesn't.

The damage is half-arsed. The shadows are dated. Neither are acceptable these days.

How many other racing games get that wrong? Colin McRae Rally 2 had better looking damage and that came out in 1999!

^ ^ I was quoting the creator there not my words.

Believe it or not there are valid reasons why this game took so long...consider that Polyphony Digital is the most meticulous, obsessive racing game studio on the planet, and they go to absolutely ludicrous lengths to ensure that each and every car, truck, and unicycle in their games look and feel as close to their real-life counterparts as possible, this is evident with they're previous titles..good things come to those who wait :)

Also, PD only have 110 staff compared to Forza 3's work force of 300! hence their speedy realese.

The reason for Colin McRae Rally's exceptional damage is simply because that was an aspect that they primarily focused on where as GT 5 was always going to be a racing sim and something people shouldn't really dwell on.

Why is everyone still trying to rip holes into the game?

Yes the graphics ned work in places, yes the menus are slow, yes the car selection isn't what was expected but so what?

Has nobody put any effort into playing the game and just enjoy it?

I have, infact I've spent all weekend playing it (sounds sad I know) but I've actually enjoyed it, rather than trying to pick holes everywhere.

So why don't we try and lighten this up a bit?

Whats everyones progress like on the game?

I've got around 30 cars just now, completed B, C, IC, and IB licences, got upto level 14, completed all the Beginner events and completed the karting and grand tour things in special events.

Oh, and checks my drifting skills! :)

No I know you're quoting there, I'm just saying it's a bit of a lazy get-out for some of the faults. Add-on packs should be additional content, not fixing glaring errors in the otherwise beautiful graphics.

And the errors go against the whole meticulous and obsessive thing. I know damage isn't the main sell, but in a 'simulator' things like this will have holes picked in them. That's the main problem here, if you set yourself up as a realistic game any glitches will be picked on. It should trump anything released beforehand, on all counts.

I personally don't have a massive issue with the lack of new cars, as there's a great selection on the game anyway. I just think they could've put a few more new ones in the game, as it's still an important selling point. The menu music doesn't bother me, neither does the general lagginess. TBH even the damage doesn't bother me that much, I just think it's a shame after going on and on about delaying the game to make it perfect that they didn't sort obvious problems before they put it on sale.

I like it, a lot. And it'll keep me going all through the winter. But I was expecting it to blow me away, like GT4 did back a few years ago, and it's not quite there.

couldn't agree more! Lets just hope they patch up some of the bugs and polish the game up to what it should/could/will be ;)

add me for races people, haven't done any online races yet!!

I got a dodge charger last night and it actually sounded like a v8 when in external camera mode. Only problem is in external camera mode I find the game unplayable. This has been a problem for me since Gran turismo 3 - The chase camera view is too rigidly 'fixed' to the back of the car, if it was allowed for more side to side movement it would be alot better. (like Gran Turismo 1, 2 and most other driving games including one of my recent favourites; Grid)

^ ^ ^ NO

Although I'm loving this game.

How terrible is the rallying.

Although I'm loving this game.

How terrible is the rallying.

It always was in GT games.

Somehow I've played this game from 4pm to now, which is 5am, and I'm still not bored of it..

Last game a played this long stint was Resistance Fall of Man, Not even cod has done this long for me :)

There are flaws with the game but not enough to ruin it completly, most or all games game do and then patches come out, I was on the F1 2010 game forum and people were slating it for such small things, repeated textures, Ermm at 160mph+ I'm kind of not looking at the trees as there blury and imagine if every tree you saw on the nurburgring was different, :o

I dont mind not having damage alot, I've played all the GT's and it never affected me then or now,

Also i love the music, Part from the 2nd part of the opening movie, Its different like it always has been, plus you ame use music of your XMB to play your own songs, Theres a Trophy for doing it ;)

Its still got that same GT charm which i love, It nice to go back to a classic game :)

but for gt6, Please for god sake have less s2000's, I dont what a bizzalion of them, just 3 or 4 would be nice, More POLO's!!

  • 2 weeks later...

just got me a gti, thought i'd post some picsNrburgringNordschleife_44.jpgCircuitodeMadrid_1.jpgNrburgringNordschleife_11.jpg

the modelling on that is fucking shocking... we've waited how long for this? I could've knocked up that polo GTI in a week single handedly with an outdated copy of 3D Studio Max.

Alot of it is out of proportion and relies too heavily on the textures.

Seriously, not being funny but.......are you blind ??

No, look at the state of the Polo GTI posted above, the lights aren't even the right shape/proportion to the rest of the car.

Anyone that's ever seen a Polo GTI can see they've cut corners. The mirrors are the wrong shape, the bumpers are the wrong shape, plate recess is wrong, badges are far too big and out of proportion, boot lid is the wrong shape.

I thought the PS3 was supposed to be a decent sort of console? surely it could handle the extra polygons?
