soz didnt get that... couldnt put another pic up could u :D

Should be interesting to see what it manages on the RR.

Just some questions about the setup, you using a bottle heater? how much issue was there with basic setting up?

I should be ready for dyno in a couple week, i have organized to go into torque of the devil..

With regards to your first question, although a bottle heater is appropriate, I decided that since I will only be using the nitrous on allocated days such as Santa pod or track days, it was not necessary. I will be monitoring bottle pressure and running the numbers and adjusting the jets as I go..

Basic set up wasn’t difficult this was my first nitrous install so with a bit of common sense and drawing out a schematic of the system before fitting and a parts lists, I didn’t run into any problems..

Will be updating in a few weeks so i will let you all know what happens..

Thanks, just interested in the principle at the moment but its something that is worth looking into for strip runs in the future.

Loving those new stickers

This is the progress so far..

Polishing the Rocker - This is at 800:

Once its wet and dry'd and then polished should be a nice mirror shine..

Oh and i just ordered my nitrous bottle pressure guage :D

Pleasure as always.. :p

Lovely jubbly! How do you get the lambada probe out of the manifold?

  • Author

mines the earlier 1.4 16v engine so the lambda is just after the exhaust manifold :D

Blast! I had to paint mine in the bay cos i couldnt figure out how to get it out :(

Great success! Some nice camera work there mate! Shiney shiney!

amazing mate!

just wondering how did you get the shots with the clear bonnet? looks great

looks really good mate :) well done

thats pritty crazy

Thanks Peeps :D i don't want to drive it now :$ might just leave it by the garage until dyno day :D

A little DSLR magic and photoshop :D

Thanks

Looks really clean in there, good job. But i wouldnt bank on that heat shield staying pretty for too long, unless you used heat resisitant paint that is :?

I'm guessing the clear bonnet pics are made with two photos, one of it closed and one open, then just faintly rubbed out the bonnet being the top layer?

Fucking aweesome man, what power does it deliver when its on?

Sorry took me so long to reply didnt realise anyone posted..

There two ways you can do it..

Either use the DSLR with a slower shutter speed and close the bonnet while taking the pic and you will get a ghosting happening..

Or just take two pics and photoshop them, just make sure you take the pictures in RAW so that you can edit them properly..

:D

Quick Update people booked into torque of the devil for this Wednesday (fingers crossed) hopefully so will finally get some videos and results up for you all!..

Yaaaaaaaaaaay power testing!

So Pleased with the results yesterday guys, the polo loved the nitrous, I didn’t get the chance to run the 75shot so I just ran 50 to see how the car would take to it!

Standard it produced around 86.5bhp and 99ft/lb which is not bad and even then it was running slightly lean, then nitrous is and it ran a 129.5bhp and 152ft/lb which is almost spot on to the 50shot with only around a 5bhp loss.

The incredible thing is you'll see in the picture that says 121bhp what how straight the power curve becomes and how it holds the power all the way through!

According to the dyno boys the car ran x100 better with the nitrous then what it did without :p

Going down in a few weeks to test the 75shot.. I’ll let the photos and videos do the talking sorry there not great it was all happening too fat trying to watch the computers while videoing.. The other car that was with me was my mates 20vT Nitrous Oxide Coupe.. Not bad for standard lol :p

Let me know what you think..

Well done for the gas figures!

I'd disagree that it's running too lean off nitrous. Many 'tuners' think that every car needs to be running 11:1 AFR or richer to be safe on full-throttle - which is bollocks, especially with a modern engine management system and well-designed engine. Something around 13:1 is more appropriate for a naturally aspirated engine like yours.

Looks to me like off-gas it's running between 12.5:1 and 13.5:1 across the rev range which seems about right, and it's then leaning out a touch just before the limiter. That leaning out is often deliberately done to make the power tail off rapidly before the rev limiter.

The AFR on nitrous looks sensible though, it's in the 11:1 - 10:1 range, which although it's far from ideal for maximum power, you need the extra fuel in there to keep the temps sensible whilst on gas.

I think you'll find that you need direct port to safely run a 75-shot if Jez's AFH experiments were anything to go by.
