Little Update guys,

I discovered why the manifold had exploded, it wasn't the nitrous is was due to the fact the temperature outside and the car hadn't warmed up properly, so when the fuel went in the vapor stuck to the sides and then came in contact with something hot then BOOM!..

Decided to go with the 6N 16V manifold and throttle body, i am redeveloping the induction system so shall update when i put it all together..

The throttle body on the left is the 6N and the one to the right is the 6N2:

The 16V manifold and throttle body is in, the CDA is on, but after my last little hick up i have decided no nitrous until the summer again, its toooo cold and wet! :D

I'm loving the vid andbthe car.... Top lad!! :) keep it up

What's hot enough to make fuel combust in a plastic inlet manifold?

This looks like a nitrous backfire to me, too much gas at too low rpm.

awesome

makes me toy with running nos one day

:D

Na it wasn't from the furl, the fuel vapor had built up because the inlet manifold was too cold, this is just me going by what people have seen before, to be honest i can't be certain the cause but i have run it since then with my new manifold and throttle body and its flying and that's with a 60shot and not safety fueled..

I pushed the button at 3,000rpm in 3rd gear i have pushed it on a hot day in 2nd and it was fine..

Ambient temperature becomes irrelevant, you're injecting a liquid at -130'C...

Fuel vapour building up because the inlet manifold being too cold? OEM test down to -40'C ambient, you're engine won't have been near this.

Thread on reversion:

By 'not safely fueled' do you mean you're running it lean?

As you get larger on the bhp increase you need to leave it until a higher rpm before hitting the go-go button, I had an 80shot on my GT and only hit it above 4000rpm, on my G40 I ran a 25 shot and hit it 2500rpm onwards, but I had more airflow at that speed than the n/a setup, also the chance of reversion was far less due to less nitrous being injected.

Fair play mate, like i said i wasn't sure of the cause just going by what people have told me, nitrous is all new to me so i welcome the chance to learn more..

The 50shot was over fuelled to run it safer the first time, check my dynograph the afr shows it running rich the 60shot i ran with the same fuel jet as the 50shot and according to my calculations it was the perfect fuel jet..

The only other thing was that not only was the car cold when the nitrous was used i was also testing bottle warming methods that day, so for the first time i ran the bottle at 900psi..

Everthing i know i put in this thread check it out and let me know what you think is going on..

Thanks

Dimz

Edit: just read the nitrous backfire thread thats what i thought intially which is what i think happened, the nitrous backfired and ignited the fuel in the manifold because it was too much of a clean burn and didnt explode but rather blew off the manifold and travelled back up to the airfilter

hey, just wondering, how hard was it to get hold of a 6n inlet and throttle body? does it fit straight on and what power gain will it give? cheers :-D

Wasn't hard at all because the 6N 16V is pretty common, it is a straight swap, swap the whole assembly though (but you might need to cut a notch into the flange because it hits onto part of the head), i removed the EGR valve and what not so that wasn't an issue. Power increase wise, because the head isn't port matched to the inlet manifold there isn't much of a power increase to be fair i recon i have lost a little response because of it, but i needed the metal manifold to control the pressure because a plastic one, as you can see, wouldn't do!

Hope that made sense..

yeah makes sense, i heard rumours that buy putting the inlet from the 100bhp 1.4 to the 75bhp 1.4, the 75bhp engine will then have 100bhp because apparently the inlet is the only difference. but if the ports dont match the flow of air will be affected as you say. cheers

Definitely not the case dude if it was we all would be sorting our 75bhp beasts to 100bhp and i wouldn't need nitrous :p

haha yeah, what mods did you do to make the 86bhp?

Quick Update:

Nothing happening with the car just getting some spacers machined up and maybe a little bit of banded steels going on but who knows!

I also designed a t-shirt in the polo's honor!

Let me know thoughts :p

that looks good that does!
