car tax...

I have a 2001 VW polo 1.4 TDI se DP. it was first registered on 30 january 2001. i know the gov made some changes so cars after 1st march would be taxed by co2 emissions. and cars before would be into 2 groups. it seems my car would go under the old system so i would be paying 125 quid a year tax. but I'm pretty sure my car produced 124 g co2/km and if registered after 1st march would be in the new lower tax D band class which i think is about90 pounds or something like that?

is there anything you can tell the dvla to say this or will i have to pay under the old system.? i heard you can get discounts or sommit, i read it off aa website.
