MX5 or Mk2 golf. I've had a lot of fun with both.

whats wrong with spending half of the money on your mk2 (subframe and blown/boostiness) and having 2k left over?

the mk2 isnt the mintest of cars, and i would prefer something different to be in.

if i was to stay with a polo it would be a mk3 all the way.

there exatly the same as a mk2 but just feel like you get more.

Words from previous experiance DONT GET A VR6!!! they are w**k

i sold my 1.9d 6n polo because i wanted more power and also turned 21 so could easily insure it, 2 months later i hated it with a passion and it was up for sale and then ebayed because i hated it that much i wanted it out of my life.

I'm now back to a 6n but a 1.4 16v now :D

why did you dislike the vr so much / what shell did you get it in ?

I got a mk3 golf

I just found the car not fun to drive, and not quick enough for the amount of fuel i was shelling into it. I love driving, ill drive anywhere at anytime but i just found myself hating the car.

The only plus with the vr6 in the noise with a decat and stainless system other than that there just poo imo

VR6 in a Mk2 shell is surely win though?

I've had mine years. its an early 1.8 valver with plenty old school engine tweaks, and its fully stripped. goes perfectly well, out on the open rd at least. you just have to rag the hell out of it  . seems to love it though. although the mpg is worse than a vr  but prefer a fast valver to any other vw engine . 2.0's feel flat. they have softer cams and rubbish gearing

VR6 'rado?

I'd get a really tidy (standard) G40, spend the rest on a few handling mods, and helping it to breathe abit better! Or go with a Ibiza Cupra, in 20VT guise!

16v corrados can be made alright, not really quick, but quicker than older any polo apart from the G40. Corrado handling/driving position is also awesome when its all right. I somehow can't help thinking i'd rather be driving a mk2 golf most the time though, long journeys aside.

Iggi, the 2.0's shouldnt feel flat in comparison, they should feel alot perkier almost everywhere, unless you're talking standard 9A. Swapping out the 9a cams for some KR ones sort that for under £30. You'd be lucky to get the 2.0 on a 1991, so you could rip the cat out aswell.

yea i mean the standard 9a as it comes. i only need the bottom end from one to complete mine but the engine in mine is so spot on i cant bring myself to change it for the sake of it

You wouldnt have to rag it so hard, but thats part of the fun if your all stipped out aswell i think. Any idea what it weighs now, bearing in mind they're about 100kg heavier than a mk2 golf.

no idea. its more the feeling of everything creaking around you and the sound of a straight through exhaust and induction bark that makes it feel bonkers too. and you feel like you are sat on the floor. shame i only do about 50 miles a month in it
