actually- seeing as both our suspension is based on my design- it would be the same wont it. i can just run mine lower as i could raise it up to drive it!

I had my car on space savers once while i rebolted my wheels and it was so low it couldnt get in the garage as the floor hit the sump plug on the edge of the concrete where the garage door sits.

Ben - take your springs out and see how it goes then- thats where I'm at (I'm running a bumpstop about 1cm tall)

oh and your sill will always look high as mk1-3 all do - unless you get some nice side skirts like mine:-P

do you mean the spring nut/plinth? - i dont have these do i lol i have air instead of springs - and the bag is 4inch long at its lowest (deflated) iirc the lowest your spring will sit loaded is 6" i sit on the bumpstop when its lowered - its only a 1cm bumpstop as i didnt want the wheels to hit the arches.

il see how close it is over the weekend - I'm about to write up the next mod I've done on the car - all will see why I'm removing all the wheels and stuff

yer i have a adjustment ring that i made to build the bag bracket - but my bag height is 4" deflated - so i can run it till the bump stop hits the custom top mount and its on its lowest possible setting without having the adjustment rings so low. if you had shorter springs then you wouldnt need to run them that low.

to get mine any lower id need to chop the top of the turret, and the dreaded notch - which after what i discovered in january will NEVER happen on one of my cars

thats whats already going on, Gaz do that- its getting the dampers which is the issue. in running what me, ben, toby and guy are- the strut is already shorter than the polo strut housing- that was part of me going down the route weve all done.

and if you limit yourself by lowering the strut anymore you are stuck between -100 and below!

i removed a piece of metal behind the turret to fit a panel in- upon removing it i could move the whole chassis leg up and down about 2" see my thread- its in there the bit i removed- sparked off a little debate as i welded in a reinforcing brace, then burt posted up a photo of VW themselves bracing this area on a race car.

i dont believe the chassis is strong enough to cope with having the metal removed and a new section put in without bracing it along the bottom- which defeats the object of doing it in the first place

Agree with kiz, of your gonna notch it then it needs some fairly substantial bracing put in to give it some strength back

you on about driveshaft notches? i haven't read up on notches, so you cant just literally cut a small square out?

Yeah, and yes you can but expect the chassis legs to start giving way in the not too distant future
