Alpine white Mk2 Golf 16v 3 door

Featured Replies

Don't really want to do this but we get proper winters up here and I could use the money to buy something more sensible to drive in the snow, plus I need to get my finger out and sort out my other Mk2...

Right.

1990 VW Golf GTI 1.8 16v in Alpine White

KR engine - 139 bhp

Just turned over 140,000 miles

Tax till December

It's just had new brakes fitted, along with rear Spax shocks and GMAX springs. Front is on FK coilovers. Mechanically, it's sound, needs nothing. Get in, start it, drive it anywhere. Body wise again it's sound, but there are a couple of bits of orange showing that usually dissappear after a polish. The rear panel would need patching up though, but not noticeable unless you are looking for it.

The exhaust blows slightly. This is due to the midbox being replaced with a bit of pipe that's slightly the wrong size, but is clamped securely. Not really a problem.

Interior is absolutely mint.

It's got power steering, electric windows, a sunroof, HEKO wind deflectors, Clifford alarm that also does remote central locking.

Wheel wise, it'll be on a set of 15" BBS RAs, recently refurbed and all in good condition bar one which has some nasty kerbing on it, but it doesn't vibrate through the car noticeably. Front tyres will be brand new middle of the road tyres as it's coming up for needing them and don't really want to sell a car on baldy tyres! The rears are Yokohama A539s with plenty of tread. A pair of brand new Yokohama Parada 2s can be negotiated into the sale instead of middle of the road tyres. As can plenty of Mk2 bits!

Comes with original key and 2 other sets of keys!

For anyone interested in costs, I get 32 mpg on my usual b-road blast to work, and it will get 36ish mpg on a motorway run. Doesn't drop much below 30 mpg around town! Insurance wise I'm 21 with 3 years no claims and it's roughly £600, but check first as some people may struggle.

I'm located in Aberdeenshire but happy to meet anywhere in the UK. I'm after £1600 or swaps/part ex for something as close to standard as possible that I can throw some snow tyres on over winter, then get rid again and get a Mk5 Golf GTI next year!

Ideal part ex would be a nice 1.4 8v Mk4 and some cash my way, or maybe a 1.4 8v 6n2. I'd go for an 8v Mk3 Golf GTI maybe, or a tdi. Just try me! Biggest problem is even at standard height, a Mk2 big bumper car is just too low for proper snow!
